Ally Bank?
« on: May 19, 2015, 03:52:52 PM »
Hey all,
I'm looking at opening a new bank account since I moved out of the range of my old credit union.  I have heard some good things about Ally Bank. Has anyone had any experience with them positive or negative?
Thanks in advance

They seem fine but others pay higher interest on savings.

I say do it! I've had a positive experience with them.  I was iffy at first since they have no physical locations.  Now I regret not opening an account with them sooner.  Good legit bank!

I agree with the other posters. I've had a very positive experience with Ally, so much so that I'm sorry I didn't open an account sooner.

I've also gone with Ally and they've been fine for me. Best rate I could find (savings earning 0.99%) and it's easy to transfer funds back and forth and their customer service is good.

I found Ally to be good.  But I found Sallie Mae to be even better: more convenient transaction process and a bit higher interest.

The current summary at depositaccounts.com is here.

https://www.depositaccounts.com/blog/2015/05/best-bank-account-interest-rates-summary-may-19-2015.html

Actually Sallie Mae MM rate is 0.90 percent, savings is 0.80 percent.  Ally savings is 0.99 and their MMA is 0.85.  GE Capital and Synchrony are at 1.05 percent for their savings accounts.  There is a separate article on CD rates.

I use Ally, GE Capital, Synchrony, and Sallie Mae.  All are easy to use and reasonably fast for moving money.  Ally offers checking as well.

I have Ally now but interested in Sallie Mae. What makes it a more convenient transaction process?

I've been very happy with Barclays, which currently pays 1.00% on savings and 2.25% on 5-year CDs: http://banking.barclaysus.com

My dad likes Ally.
