A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:34:22 AM »
I am new to the philosophy of early retirement and frugality, but my wife and I are making some headway! We made a huge step forward last night as we finally got rid of an extra vehicle left over from my single days. A couple of years ago I was living large, making decent money and single no kids; so, I convinced myself that I needed a new car and bought the one I had been wanting since highschool....a 2004 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY!!! What a sweet truck! Unique, great at off roading (which I never did), GIANT, and averaged 11MPG city and 15 Hwy! Well we sold it last night. Overall, because of repairs and maintenance costs, I didn't make any money on it. I did, however sell it for more than I owed on it. Along with the fact that by not having the insurance payment, the car payment this month, and the extra money, I made an extra 1000 this month! I learned my lesson and will be driving  my sweet, passed down, 97 honda accord until it dies! Just wanted to share that story! Pumped to get out of the corporate grind!!!

What a huge step!  Congratulations.

The rest should come fairly easily.   What other plans do you have to reduce expenses?

My wife and I are on the Dave Ramsey plan at the moment, so we are cutting through debt like crazy. I'm going over a list of energy saving improvments I will start making in the future (We have an unfinished, open basement, insulation, etc.). We're taking advantage of our employers discount for our phone bills, cutting back on groceries, not eating out. My wife will hopefully be transfered to a work location that is closer to our daycare, so I will begin riding my bike to work (8 miles) at least a couple of times a week. We've got a lot planned! Always open to suggestions as well!
