Anyone got any groovy plans for the summer? We're not traveling much at all this year so I'd love to live vicariously through you all!

Welcome to the club, PW!

DJ, it looks like I'll be spending the next month in Pensacola for work.  Hopefully I'll get some weekends off to enjoy the beach and hotel pool.

Since I like round numbers (makes the math easier) I'll just leave this here.

Bumpity Bump!

What are you guys up to???  Are we still in the 2029 boat together?  Any newbies wanna jump in the life raft?

I've bumped up my 401k to 10% and been on the road where my pay is substantially higher. #+PerDiem  It's finally back to the levels it was at my old job.  (Changed employers this year due to a .gov contract change)

I've also been faithfully dumping money in my taxable account each month, despite a heat pump replacement at my rental property.  Ouch

Still here! Still doing the same old thing - trucking along working, saving and living life. I'm now I think ever so slightly even more likely to go in 2028 but it all depends on what the market and the economy are doing between 2026 and 2029ish.

I won't change any numbers again until October, when I get my raise. Then I'll bump things up a bit.

Hey all ,
hope those in the USA under the shadow of the moon enjoy it. I saw an eclipse in devon a few years back, an interesting experience.

All things ticking along here ok, db pension is now transferred to dc and invested. Savings are automated so i'm all set for 12 years time.

Now i'm more worried about running out of life rather than money !

Best wishes all FI4

4144 days till 1/1/29'
52 weekends a year x 2 days x 11 years = 1144 , less than 3000 days of turning up for my attendance allowance to the work a day world . if you add vacation then we're nearly there !

I use this calculator a lot to figure out how many days to or from a certain date.

https://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html

According to this, if I go on the target day, month and year, I have 2699 work days until I retire. But wait! There's more! I also get time off, and I like to use it. I get 3 personal days, 20 vacation days and 12 sick days. Let's say I use it all, every year. That's another 35 days off a year, over the next 10 years and 10 months or so. If I manage to use ALL of that time, minus say - 20 of the sick days I'll accrue, that equals another 365 days off. A whole freaking year! That brings my total to 2334 days. Oh, but on my 15th and 20th work anniversaries, I also age an extra week of vacation (not per year, just on that day, added to my total). So that's another 10 days, or 2324 working days left. Or... about six and two third years of working time over the next 10 years, 10 months.

Of course, I may not use all those vaca days. I plan on saving up about a month's worth of vaca over the next 10 years, so I'll have that payout when I leave work as well. That's going to help fund my massive road trip. :)

That's a pretty cool calculator.  Assuming I go in November when the wife is eligible for Medicare, I only have 2937 working days to go!

2840 days not counting weekends and (US) holidays. That's the good news. The bad news is, for those of us still working, the 1st day of 2029 is a Monday. More good news though! Generally that's a holiday so I suspect many of us won't actually be at work on the first Monday of 2029.

Yeah, I've got that 5% October milestone in my calendar! It's more than twice the 2% milestone we just passed. Then after that... we're in double digits!

(For context, I also get all giddy about dropping a 100 days off my personal countdown - your mileage may vary).

Put me down for 2/7/2029, 48 yrs old, with our only child headed to college or trade school or vagabond in the fall of 2029.
Could hit FI before that if current conditions hold (46?), but will probably tack on a few OMY's for safety.
I'm going for a 3.5% WR, which would be even lower if I finish in 2029

Edit: I love the absurdity of nailing this down to the day :)

Welcome FourPercenter! My original projections had me going in June(ish) of 2029 but I think I've knocked a full year off of that and will be going in mid-2028, all things being equal.

Given MadFientist's Calculator assuming a 4% SWR and a 5% real CAGR we are looking at mid 2029. At this point I'm just going to call that FI, I doubt I'd leave work with kids that are 13 and 11. Wouldn't really be able to do a ton of traveling and right now I don't have any hobbies I'm passionate about that could replace a 30-40 hour work week, but who knows? Plus it doesn't hurt that I like what I do right now, but again that could all change in an instant.

Alright I've been on these forums for awhile and have thrown around some numbers and dates but it's time to commit.  I will be 50 in Sept of 2029 so this will be the absolute last date of work for me...hopefully if the market is better or we are able to save more the date might come sooner.  This date works out for several other reasons as well.  Our 15 year mortgage should be paid off by then and it would be when my daughter is 15 so 2 years before she goes off to college.  FAFSA looks at parental income for determining financial aid so if we can retire before she starts college it would help out with getting more money for college.

Right now we are at assets of about $1Mil.  Our target number is between $1.6mil to $2mil.  I think we can hit it easily in 12 years.  While MMM has truly motivated me to save more, I find that it's tough to be extreme about it.  I'm okay taking my time and not stressing about everything down to the penny.  I feel like we are close to being FI and at some point before the 12 years, I might just downgrade my job and find a position that pays less with less stress and less hours.  I don't mind work so much when it's on my terms so I've realized that it's more about maximizing our happiness.  And it makes me happy to just put a date to it =)

This coming Thanksgiving I've got a few days off and I'm going to enjoy my little taste of FIRE! Then I've got nearly 3 weeks off between Dec. 1 and January 3rd so I'm going to enjoy that even more! Relaxing, seeing family, relaxing some more, and of course, the eating.

Anyone got any fun holiday plans?

I have the week before christmas off .

Driving in the UK tends to get a bit crazy that week with shoppers, commuters and idiots so i try to avoid all of it, hole myself up at home and only visit shops out of regular hours .

I will take a car trip to london to pick up my mum who will come stay.

When i was RE i stocked up on food and wine and was a complete recluse for December and January. When FI i plan to spend christmas week in the uk but at least Nov - April between the tropics or in the southern hemisphere .

Merry Christmas to you & yours DJ & anyone else who celebrates it :)

Happy holidays to those who don't but have time off ...

Wishing happy to those who have none of the above .

Well crazy UK government have proposals to put up access to retirement accounts from 55 to 57 in 2028 .. i am 55 in 2029 .. so retirement account access will be 2031 at 57 .. i am putting money into post tax savings now (ISA) .
I estimate i'm buying 2 weeks per month hopefully with compounding it will be more like 4 to 6 weeks money this far out . i have not done the maths yet but have started the saving which is the important part , the rest will fall into place . 58% SR in total now.

2029 or June 29th?

If the latter, I'm also shooting for June 28 - it's my birthday, and I love the symbolism - but the Friday/payday is probably more realistic. ;)

Smart. Once I get closer and it feels more 'real' I'll have to start building out that bucket list... but I'll still focus on spending the next 10 years doing all those things too (like a 6-month long van road trip!)

Wow! January is just about done. This month seemed to go by very, very fast for me.

The entire family was busy - which is good and bad. I'm kinda glad that this month is over, actually. Most of the stuff was with the business of life, not the enjoyment of it and it's darned cold out to boot! So here's the the last January day we'll see in 2018.

I see we are past the 5% thread elapse calculation and 18th of May is 10% day. It all seemed ages away last May when you computed those figures.

I approximate that we are past 7.5%  Hurrah !

11 years time ? we'll all be posting on the "race from $1-2m" thread :)

Well shoot you made me realized something! I guess it's time to wish everyone a happy Anniversary! Tomorrow, March 13th, marks 1 year that this cohort has existed! One year down! Look back at the last 12 months and realize how much has happened. Then look back at it and realize how freaking fast it's gone by!

Keeping on Keeping on here.  I'm much too obsessed with watching the growth and scheduled deposits then I should be.

I've been that way - and probably will be that way again. I'm forcing myself to not check my balance until the end of this month though as I was hanging around that particular part of the internet a little much. :)

I try not to but I end up looking almost every damned day. At least during the week. Possibly due to a slight abundance of downtime at work and running into the ends of the Internet.

But - even though I see things dropping and whatnot, that doesn't mean I'm changing my behavior. We've got 10-11 years left in this game. I'm still pretty able to keep the 'stocks on sale' mentality. I'll just keep on keeping on and letting my automatic deposits do their thing!

Hey '29ers! 3919 until it's our year! 10% day is rapidly approaching too - it'll be here in just 40 days! Thinking back to celebrating 2% it seems to have gone by in a flash. Hope everyone is doing well!
