(mustachian) mission statements
« on: August 02, 2015, 12:59:59 PM »
My husband is reading the 7 habits of higly effective people and he's now making his own mission statement.

This made me wonder if anyone of you also has a mission statement? I'm very curious and I'm hoping for some inspiration for a mustachian mission statement :)

DH and I have a "family mission statement", but it's quite long and still in the works. And thinking about it, I realize it doesn't actually have *anything* to do with frugality explicitly. To me, frugality is a means to an end to live my values and goals, rather than the goal itself.

It's not really a mission statement, but some people at work have asked me why I want to quit my job when I would be in my prime earning potential. I usually respond with "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?" A little melodramatic, but a some days at work really are soul sucking.

Does that $15,000 include rent/mortgage payments?

My goal in life is to treat others the way I want to be treated, to try and make the world a better place, to be a great friend to my friends, to do companion animal rescue when possible, and to live deliberately.

Choose your path, iow.

The MMM portion of it is to not buy useless shit, try and save more, and be a bit more frugal and a bit more savvy about investment income.

Making a life's philosophy statement is one of my early goals for FIRE.

RoG shared a rough one with me the other day, would love to hear more from any other Mustachians or early retirees!
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

My first draft:

Live simply
Have fun
Be free
Win every argument, no matter how petty
