"Stellar" Susquehanna checking account
« on: May 22, 2013, 09:13:33 AM »

Interesting take on rewards checking I just saw advertised.  $0.05 reward for each purchase and bill pay.  $1 monthly reward for automatic transfer to savings.

Just thought I'd mention it.  Seems easy to game for small profit so who knows how long it will last.

I'm getting 1 percent cash rewards on my Capital One Card now, plus a 50 percent bonus of the total rewards received annually on my anniversary date, or 1.5 percent rewards rate. So I'd make more money with Susquehanna on any purchases less than $3.33, but more money on Capital One for over $3.33 purchases. I'll just stick with my Capital One rewards then.. but good to explore. If anyone else is getting better cash rewards. let us know..

It's not that hard to do better than 1.5%: American Express Blue Cash

I've had this card for two years (the Preferred version, not the no-annual-fee Everyday). Discounting the annual fee from the cash back, I'm still getting 4.1% over those two years. I will allow that it's not as good a deal now with the $6,000 cap on grocery spending, but it's pretty easy to do better than 1.5%.

You could also just get a straight 2% cash back card: Barclays World Mastercard or Priceline Visa

If you live near a US Bank branch: US Bank Cash + looks pretty good to me.

This Fatwallet thread is a good place to check from from time to time, too.

Another straight 2% card is the Fidelity American Express card: https://www.fidelity.com/cash-management/american-express-cards
You can just open a Fidelity Cash Management Account and ACH the rewards out after they're deposited.

I thought the savings transfer reward was interesting too.  At the end of the month, auto transfer $100 from your regular high-interest account into the checking, auto transfer from the checking to the savings, auto transfer out of the savings back to your regular high-interest account.  You get 1% interest on your $100 plus whatever interest your regular account offers (minus the three or so days it spent out of it).

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
