I have liability only now, but when I had collision and comprehensive, I took the highest deductibles available, which I believe were $1000 and $500.

I have run quite a few different deductibles. For our beater I chose no coverage at all. For our nicer car I was running a $2k deductible. Currently though I think our deductibles are $500 because that's what our lender requires (financing was too cheap to pass up). Once the loans are paid off in 2022 I expect to go back to $2k deductibles.

On our Odyssey, it's $250 comprehensive (required by lender)/$1k collision.

On my Focus, it's $1k comprehensive/$1k collision.

If I raised either collision another $1k, we'd save <$1 per month, so the extra coverage is fine with me.

$1,000 - any loss less than $3k I'd just pay out of pocket

On my CRV still with a lender I have $1000 on both. Surprised they didn't require me to pick a certain deductible. It's with Honda Finance.
On everything else I pick the highest which is usually $2000.

Exactly. Enough to keep our 6 month premium reasonable but know we are on the hook for smaller stuff.

Why 3K and not at 1K or 2K?

$1000. Insurance is only meant to be used to replace a vehicle.

Good idea
They mentioned that people use it to cover a portion of windshields and that’s why people leave them at $500. I have mine at $1K

Most insurance should allow you to set glass deductible to $0 separately from the normal collision/comprehensive deductibles. If windshield replacement is the primary concern then you'd probably be better off opting for that and leaving the rest of the deductibles higher.

Mine is $100 comprehensive, $250 collision.

The coverage is $50k/$100.  Seems low - I should look into what it would cost me to increase that and add an umbrella insurance policy.

$1k, I did the math and I'd have to have a claim more than every third year to make cheaper make sense.  One of the many times having money helps you make/save more money.  Oh, and paying attention and mathing.

I keep my deductibles at $250 across the board, but we also only pay $1460 a year for car insurance.  If I raised my deductible all the way to $1000 it only lowers my insurance to $1320 a year.  If I went with a $1000 deductible I'd have to roll the dice on nothing happening for 5.3 years before I'd even save any money if I had one single claim.  Since we live in a place that it loves to hail all the time it just doesn't make sense to play the game with a high deductible.  One thing that I've learned is that each insurance company has their own idea of what the perfect customer looks like.  Fine the company that think's you are their perfect customer and you will enjoy the lowest rates...
