New to the group
« on: May 16, 2018, 09:50:01 AM »
I just signed up and am new to the group. My friend recommended this forum, blog, and website to me. I plan on reading a good majority of the articles in the next week.

My current financial situation is that I am debt free. House is paid off, cars are paid off, and I have $200K for retirement. I am 36. I have been debt free for about 2 years and have been wanting to be work independent. Work independent meaning I don't want to work for someone else or I can finally be my dream job (back country ranger). So, I look forward to reading everyone's post, asking lots of questions, and working on being wealthy enough to not have to work for someone else.

What else do you want to know? I was hiking the JMT out through Yosemite last year. I ran into a park ranger who works 4 days on and 3 days off. The 4 days she was working she just hiked through the backcountry checking permits and making sure everyone was following the rules.

Tucker, many (many) years ago I was in the back country of Glacier N.P. and met people from all walks of life. One guy was from Germany, others from New York etc. Some worked taking care of the trails and signs. Some worked at the remote lodge high up on the mountain. One Ranger gave guided tours up to the Glacier to small groups of registered hikers (on good days) while checking to make sure everyone was storing their food safely. From bears

While very isolated, I thought that this would be an interesting way to spend a few summers. The isolation and sheer logistics kept me from looking more into this. (100's of miles from my home town at the time.) Good luck with your plans on your dream *job*,
