Title: UK 'beer money' phone apps, websites, etc
Post by: sea_saw on December 11, 2017, 07:20:00 AM
Does anyone use any apps or sites to earn little bits of cash, vouchers and so on? Any mturkers, survey answerers, mystery shoppers, etc? As is often the case with these topics, I find a lot of the US sites/advice does not apply.

Personally I've tried and liked:

JobSpotter – this is a phone app that pays you for taking photographs of 'help wanted' signs on shop fronts, which are then posted to indeed.co.uk for job searchers to find. My 'commute' is a walk that takes me past a couple of high streets, and in two weeks of activity I earned £30, plus I actually quite enjoyed it, saw the city a little bit differently and had a nice incentive to vary my route or walk a little out of my way. Did freeze my fingers using my phone in this weather though. Every month the clock resets and you can re-send any ads that are still up.

It pays in amazon vouchers. I had a couple of things I've needed to buy on amazon for months so I used it on there directly, but next time I'll sell my vouchers on, have asked around and enough people use Amazon Prime as their main shop/grocer that there seem to be plenty of takers.

Google Rewards – this is an android app that sends you surveys. They're usually either info about yourself, or opinions on brands (most frequently Google products). It pays in Google Play Store credit. I only answer questions I'm comfortable with and only until I've built up about £3, and use that to get paid, ad-free versions of apps I like for free. WARNING: the credit sneakily expires if you don't use it, so there's no point trying to bank up a pile. I ignore far more surveys than I answer.

Next on my list to try are some sites that pay you for usability testing, which is something I have experience with. I'll report back.

Obviously this is very small fry money wise, and I'm sure many people on this forum will not find it worth their time! But for those of us who feel differently, I'm curious to know what your experiences have been :)

I use YouGov (http://yougov.co.uk) and have done for a little while now. I've probably only made approx £50/year from it and I do every survey I can, but I keep at it because the surveys are uncluttered (not like a lot of sites that are spammy etc) and often things I find interesting like politics.

I also use (disclaimer, referral link for rewards for me!) Prolific (https://www.prolific.ac/p?ref=G2O9HWFE) which pays well as far as these things go, and is more geared toward academic studies (psychology research and the like). You'll be alerted about very few of the surveys you're eligible for and can get a lot more by regularly refreshing the studies page. I've been using this a few months and averaging ~£12/month. Again, it only stays 'worth it' to me because I find the surveys themselves interesting. Non-referral link: https://www.prolific.ac

I've tried some of the others but these are the only two that have stuck, primarily because they're not numbingly boring or spammy.
