Refer a Friend Scheme Exchange
« on: March 16, 2018, 06:09:30 AM »
I have no idea if there's appetite for this sort of thing, but I noticed a lot of the US users have their referral scheme links in their signatures.

That's probably a step too far for my non-promotional British soul, but it occurred to me that the UK mustache community doesn't currently have a central place to share these referrals for mutual benefit.

My idea: anyone who wants to post their details/link for a scheme can add it to this thread - and I'll collate all the offers into the top post for anyone to use.

For example...

There's at least one major UK bank using refer-a-friend switch schemes at the moment:

And there's a lot of consumer purchase schemes on diverse items, from mobiles to internet and accommodation bookings. The main ones I use are:
  • AirBnB 55 each - www.airbnb.co.uk/c/abigailw649 - aoedae, unlimited amount left
  • Smarty - 1 month free phone - contact by PM - aoedae, unlimited amount left

If anyone's got any feedback on this idea please post below, and if you like it maybe share a referral link offer or request of your own?

I think this is a fab idea!

Unfortunately both of us have Nationwide accounts already (doh!).

Will be keeping a close eye here for future opportunities though.

Ridiculously after hovering round the general discussion forum for ages, I've only just found the UK section thanks to a mention on MSE forums.

On this one, Kuflink as peer to peer lender have a good current offer. 100 sign up bonus for referrer and referee for 500 invested. Tends to need to be over 12 months if you put it on auto-invest which spreads it over 10 loans. Not without risk as borrowers can default but no losses to date and Kuflink take the first initial hit (5% and I think 20% on specific investments). So it feels lower risk than the 350 a couple can receive for investing a 1000 (i.e. 300 referral bonus plus 50 interest).

https://invest.kuflink.co.uk/invite/PC-1077

Should mention that the 500 needs to be invested within 24 hours of the first investment so best to do it all at once, and referral bonus is withdrawable after about 15 days although terms say 14-21 days,

Ratesetter is the other P2P site which is more established and pays referrals but for high lending. Still feel worthwhile for referral bonuses but wouldn't leave a lot of money in these sites as they don't have the same protection.

Earn a 50 bonus when your friend invests 1,000

When your friend invests 1,000 with RateSetter for a year*, you will get a 50 bonus and they will get a 100 bonus. so 250 plus maybe 70 interest for a couple investing 2,000 between them. Works out about a 16% return on investment.

Great idea.

Bulb are a great cheap energy supplier, switching is really easy and we get 50 each using the referral link:

https://bulb.co.uk/refer/stephen5042

It only takes a minute to get a quote and will probably be cheaper than your existing supplier, particularly if you use one of the big six.

We've recently switched to Bulb and can confirm it's easy and we didn't have to spend any time on the phone at all and we saved 12/month over EDF.

First ever post on Mr MM forum but long time reader and trying to achieve FIRE. Interesting that someone posted this on here today as I thought this sort of stuff was missing from the UK discussion too.

Our energy supplier is SO Energy - a small operator who claim 100% renewable. Switch was easy and customer service has been v.good. Been with them a year or so and we only use electric, no gas. At the time they were the cheapest (I imagine rates have gone up a little since last year):

12.02p per KwH
18.90p per day standing charge

There is an early exit fee of 5 per fuel.

https://www.so.energy/r/SHIHOOIHH - both parties receive 20 each.

Another long time reader, first time poster here. Thanks for creating this thread aoedae, a great idea.

Nationwide Current Account

I can refer you, we would each receive 100.

I see Nationwide as an important part of my emergency fund. The current account offers 5% interest on balances up to 2500, for 12 months, as well as a regular saver which accepts up to 250 per month at 5% interest.

Once you are a Nationwide member you can gain up to a further 500 per tax year by referring others.

Thanks PropJoe! I've been meaning to switch to bulb for months but kept forgetting to ask around for a referral.
Just switched now.

Awesome Izzs, thanks!

I've had a very good experience with them so far. I think they are rolling out free next-gen smart meters later this year too.

If anyone wants to start investing in student, commercial or residential property with Property Partner then I'd be grateful if you would use my referral link. We use them ourselves, and have some student property paying dividends of over 6% pa. As always, do your own research to see if it's right for you.

We share a referral award depending on the investment made (which can be made over time). Referral fee can be as high as 1,250 each.

If you are looking to change energy supplier then Bulb will give each of us 50. They were the cheapest quote for me for dual fuel, and no fee for moving from them which is unusual these days :

Really happy to report that someone from this forum used my referral code, earning me 20.  Whoever you are, I owe you a pint and I'm sure you'll make some good money from P/A.  I've also referred 4 friends, so I'll make 100 + a 25 bonus (which you get for every 5 people you refer).  My 4 friends are going to use my codes for most bookies they sign up with, I reckon I could easily make 200+ from referring people.  Can't argue with that can you?!

This is a great idea, and I'll definitely be taking advantage of some of these referrals!

Does anyone have one for their internet provider? We will be setting up Internet over the next week so it would be great to use a referral for that. We're not fussy on the provider, as long as the speeds and fast and prices are good.

I've also got a link for Smarty, the mobile phone company. It's a very month-long rolling simple SIM-only deal. I pay 7.50/month for unlimited call and texts and 2GB of data, but I get a refund for any unused data on my next month's bill - so I only pay for what I use. I've been very happy with the way it's worked. With my link, we each get a free month: http://referme.to/J8ekKco

We've just used Revolut for travelling in Europe.

It has a very slick, easy-to-use app and they send you the Visa Debit card for free.

Interbank rates (equals best exchange rates possible.)

Highly recommended.

(BTW: I don't think I get any referral bonus... just thought it was a very mustachian service)

To anyone who's looking to change electricity providers, I can join in with others' recommendations of Bulb.  We've been with them for a year now, and have had no problems.  Prices are very reasonable (certainly cheaper than EDF, which is what we were using before), they claim to be sourcing 100% renewable electricity, and it's very easy to manage your account online.

If you use the referral link below before 4 October, you will get 100 credited to your account.

Ratesetter peer to peer lending
In a stocks and shares ISA.

100 bonus if you sign up with this link and loan 1000 for 12 months.

I have loaned some out for a 5.5% return. So a 15.5% return with the extra hundred.
Secured by their bank account buffer.

Link....

Might be a nice place for a little of your emergency funds as it's accessible anytime (small fee)?

All the best.

Three posts above yours?

Shame they don't offer anything to the person referred (or do they?). I'll be signing up with them in a few months, probably.

I didn't get a response from Rightflyer so figured I'd open it up. [Thanks for checking that I can read though :) ] There's nothing for the person being referred so I'll leave it be.

I should start looking at some of these ideas for utilities and Internet and so forth. That's on the list of things to get around to, so I'll try to remember to use someone's link at that point.

If you want language lessons (over Skype or similar), you can use my link for a $10 USD bonus after your first paid lesson with italki. You can also use the site to find language exchange partners for free language practice, but there's no special referral for that because it doesn't involve money.

I could also refer people for Nationwide, but I think you all have that one covered already.
