OMY + 4 months
« on: November 12, 2019, 10:10:33 AM »
Hi,

As mentioned previously I though that I had hit my FI amount on my 55th birthday but I was concerned about Brexit so carried on working. Now I'm glad to be able to report that I finish work on 5th December 2019. We ran the numbers past a well  known Financial Planner and he assured us that I could stop working immediately. So I have (apart form the 1 month notice)

It's a really weird and scary experience.  I honestly have no idea how I am going to spend my time. I enjoy swimming ( 3-4 days a week for last 27 years) and would like to get back into cycling but have slightly lost my nerve. I like to think that I am too rock 'n' roll for golf. Looks like it will have to be daytime TV!!!!!!!! (and fab holidays/travelling)

I take absolutely no credit for being able to retire early as it was my wife's idea. We just followed what MMM says and read a few great books.

The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins
The Meaningful Money Handbook by Pete Mathew
Reset by David Sawyer

Just keep at it folks and you will reap the rewards.

Congratulations!

I'm pushing myself to drop the bomb before xmas. I'm there numbers-wise, but I don't have any DB underpinning apart from SP so it will take a leap of faith into the unknown.

Congratulations Flavius!  Come on in, the water's lovely!

We've been retired for a year and daytime TV has definitely not featured.  It won't be long before you are wondering how you ever had time to go to work.

Thanks.

TBH I only have a very small DB pension that kicks in at 60 but the time feels right.

Congratulations Flavius!  I've been listening to Pete's Meaningful Money podcasts recently - there is some good content there.

I suspect you won't spend much time watching Daytime TV (I tried it on maternity leave and got sick of it pretty fast!)  I reckon once you've had a chance to decompress a bit you'll find all kinds of new avenues to explore!

Thanks LightTripper.

Pete is a great guy and has given me lots of useful advice. I'd recommend him to anybody looking for a financial planner even if it is just once before you retire.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
