How do YOU use moneyhub?
« on: April 24, 2022, 03:38:44 PM »
I realise this is a bit of a silly question, but I have downloaded moneyhub and connected the main spending accounts to it.

It looks like it has some powerful features. But I often find asking current users can help to shortcut into getting the most out of a product. So how do you use moneyhub to its greatest effect?

I think this could be useful for future users as well.

1 - I like the alerts every time there is a transaction so I can check and approve it along with the tags in the 'Transaction inbox'
2 - Good to have the net worth view and graph over time
3 - I often go into 'Insights > Spending analysis' and run reports to get yearly spending categories amounts plus you can compare to previous years
4 - Same as 3 but checking monthly spends
5 - You can create spending budgets for the month and get alerts when you're near or over

I'm having trouble linking to my stockbroker account - so our net worth has been declining as I've put surplus current account money into the stockbroker account.   But I'm not too concerned about that for now.  We have a linked "fun money" account that is in effect a sinking fund that goes for big purchases as well as fun.  I suspect there will be ropier times for that at first as the comparatively large current account balance is out of mind, but the net worth will keep an eye on this and its interactions with our bills accounts, two separate credit card accounts and credit cards.

The spending analysis has been fun because I clearly like categorising things too much - but annualised spends are looking scary.

I will talk to my wife about the budgets.  That might be a way forward for the small little items like eating out.

So all the spending accounts are hooked up but there is a bit of a problem as to seeing what are the "essential" and what are discretionary payments.  There's also a question of what are the I can't currently find a way to export the data to a spreadsheet, although having all the accounts in one place with some decent classifications could make manually creating a spreadsheet much easier.

I've already transcribed the total amounts over the last year, which shows far more spending than I expected - which is useful.

So it's now analysis.
