Shelter In Place - Suddenly Possible Projects
« on: March 20, 2020, 08:12:31 PM »
My good peoples,

What a time to be alive!  I do not wish to discount the impact many people are having due to the pandemic, but it is amazing how the world has changed for this American father of 3 in a month.  I went from a very full schedule with 3 kids in 3 sports to complete lockdown - no activities, no school, no sports, no bars, no restaurants, etc.  At least there are no sports to watch on TV either! :(

Anyway, we play the cards we are dealt.  For me, it means the unenviable quasi-herculean task of refacing our kitchen cabinets.  There are 32 of them and they have been abused by the aforementioned 3 kids for a combined 43 years (the cabinets are 18 years old).

A month ago I would have volunteered to retrieve the golden fleece or slay the hydra well in advance of this gig...but it is what it is.

My fellow inmates - what are you going to do with this most unexpected treasure trove of time?  Go big or go stay home!!!

We're going to finish laying the carpet tiles in our basement. Tomorrow.

If I can find a paint color I like in our basement stash of paint cans, maybe we'll paint the dining room. Might also be able to finally install the new baseboards we bought...oh...3 years ago for the dining room.

Looks like it will be painting for me too, mostly baseboards.

Am mulling over whether to cull and organize old photos - it can be a good use of time but also can stir up emotions in an already overloaded emotional situation.

Tree-trimming and gardening for me, we have a tree we want to take down, plus setting up raised beds for a veggie and herb garden.  I want to start by taking down the branches that overhang our neighbor's fence.

Racing hard on finalizing my phd thesis in self-quarantine.
Was almost impossible to get done quickly with a full time job and commute.

Will be done by the time university resumes with normal operation.
