I weighed in at 135.0 yesterday and would like to hit and maintain 132.0 for this month. Let’s do it!

Using Haply Scale + MFP to track progress.
Low-ish carb + HIIT workouts

I'm up!
Checked in at 94.5kg today, I aim for at least 0.5kg per week on average, so I'm in for 2kg to get me down to 92.5kg

I'm down to 189.4 pounds this morning ( from 199 last month!!)

I'm eating moderate low carb (probably between 50-80 g. of carbs per day) and using MFP to track calories, trying for under 1600 daily.   I work out daily in the evenings but am not doing anything too strenuous.   Weight loss for a woman in her 50s is hard so I"m expecting a stall.

My goal for this month is therefore to end at 182 pounds.

I'm in. I'm fat at 188. This is the most I've weighed since retiring from the Army in 2007. I'm 4 weeks into Couch to 5k and have cut out bread focusing on MyFitnessPal, reducing sugar & carbs, lots of fresh veggies, grilling only chicken & fish. Will update as my progress continues. Doing it for me!

Well, I have basically gained back some of what I lost so I am in again. August was a dud.  I am only aiming for 5 lbs this month.  Starting at 159.   But, I have lost 6 to date .

It is time to make a withdrawal around the middle and reallocate to more profitable accounts.

Loved the intro OP.

Will aim for 4 lbs
currently at 149 from 158 earlier this year--that's mostly been through increased activity, so would be really pleased to get to 145 while also increasing strength

Next step: healthier choices and reduce mindless snacking (my partner has dubbed me a 'snackoholic' this will be my autumn mindfulness focus, querying 'am I actually hungry?' and 'what am i hungry for')

I am in.  Last year in September I was at my goal weight and I’ve managed to gain back 15 pounds.  I am 158 today so my goal for September is 5 pounds. I don’t follow any special diet. I try to eat a balanced diet and exercise and most importantly avoid alcohol. I’m pretty sure the majority of my 15 pounds came from alcohol and the bad food I eat once I start drinking.

Woot! 7 lbs for me please!

I started Sept at 164 but there was probably a little water weight. I was 163 this morning. Highest adult weight was 220 lbs 7 years ago. Lowest was 155 about 5 years ago after I got serious. I hovered around 160-165 for several years and the I balloned up to 180 over Christmas last year. I gained 15 lbs in 6 weeks. Now I'm trying to get serious again and get down to my goal of about 140, a number I haven't seen since I was 10 or so.  It's not easy.

I will go for 10lbs, target weight of 215.

I've lost about 20lbs from my highest which was back in Feb/Mar. Haven't been sub 100kg in probably 10 years.

This sounds like fun.

I am looking to get my 7 day rolling average weight down to 195lbs. I'm only a few lbs off, after having lost 25lbs since 6/14.

Anything less than 195 and I start to look emaciated. Bleh

I'm gonna go with a pound a week. My weight has been creeping up over time and I don't like it. Made myself a chart with entries for each day and a weekly average, along with a goal weight, until the end of the year. At that point, I'll be at a weight I'd be happy to maintain. Going to hang that above my scale and try to weigh myself daily. Next step, going to make myself a visual reminder of some healthy ways I can achieve my goal, including more movement and less snacking on empty calories. Good luck everyone!

Where did you hear that? I thought 23 was only the guideline for some Asian countries and people of Asian decent.

I track calories and weight daily. If not, I immediately fall off the wagon. Seeing weight fluctuations still frustrates me even though I know it's totally normal. I'm not sure what to do about it though. I just try to psych myself into using both high days and low days as motivation.

I'm in for 5 lbs.  That might be an overly modest target since I (for some reason) spiked up like 4 lbs on my end of August number.  It is pretty crazy how much my numbers (I use one of those bio impedance scales) can move around over a couple of days.

Have you tried keeping track of your weight using an app like Happy Scale? It keeps a running average of your weight so that the fluctuations don’t frustrate you as much. I find that weighing myself every day is actually really motivating except for the days when I have very high fluctuations (damn Chinese food and monthly hormones!) so this app has really helped me stay focused on my long term goals. I also like the prediction option because I challenge myself to beat the prediction date.

I track my weight (as does my wife) on a google sheets page we share.  We keep a 7 day moving average too, so we can see if it is going the right way.  Too much food (i.e. desserts or pre-dinner nibbles) cause the most issues for us.

Take BMI with a grain of salt, especially if you are muscular. I just did a calculation online and apparently I'm "overweight" with a BMI of 26.6

The kicker? I have a six pack and wear 32 x 32 jeans/slacks.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180906/feaddc8d2774447d0a45be47f3555077.jpg)

Yeah BMI is pretty much just a really rough guideline. It's known to be flat out wrong for for very muscular people. Somehow supposed to be some sort of proxy for average bodyfat for the average person of your height and weight or something. Key being average person. Me, I'm using it as a benchmark cause I'm plenty squishy enough not to have to worry about that.

Went out for work dinner yesterday. I'm up 3 lbs compared to yesterday. I know that can't be all real weight but it's still a struggle not to let it get me down. Last time this happened it took me 2 weeks to get back to where I was before the incident.

I am not weighing in until at least Monday. I went off the rails yesterday emotionally eating after dealing with a lot of personal stuff. Lesson learned, moving on, but going to hold off on torturing myself on the scale for a few days since I know my weight is up.

In other news, I killed my workout today, so I have that going for me.

I'm out of town at a family wedding now. It's rough. I can't weigh or measure anything or see any labels and so far I haven't been able to make any food choices other than take it or leave it. Not very many fruits or vegetables to be seen. I wasn't able to work out yesterday but I needed a day off anyway.

I feel really sluggish this morning and I'm sure it's a combination of sleep deprivation and the dietary change. I'm going to try to get my workout in anyway. I've gotta make it through 4 more days before I can go home.

I've found that a moving 7 day average paints a much better picture for me.
I actually have an app that tracks this way too, but I find it doesn't make much difference to me.

I'm getting very anxious about not being able to weigh myself and all the eating that's been going on. The only silver lining is that I've been able to keep up my workouts. All my normal walking has been cut out though and that's usually around 15k steps a day. My entire day now might be fewer steps than my normal morning dog walk.

I'm really excited. Somehow I managed to keep on track without access to a food scale, a people scale, or much control over what I ate, and free flowing alcohol and carbs. One meal was literally just leftover cake!  I'm down about 3.5 lbs this month so halfway to my goal. And basically as much as June, July, and August combined!  It's a big motivational boost to keep me going.

211.3 on 9/1
208.2 today

3.1 lbs lost

Using actual weigh in numbers:
210.4 on 9/1
207.2 today

3.2 lbs lost

Goal for this month is 5 lbs.

9/1   188.8 lbs
9/8   186.1 lbs
9/15 182.2 lbs

End of month goal 178 lbs

I’ve been very disciplined with sticking to a whole food plant based diet, except for one cheat meal per week. The cheat meal this week was a fantastic Indian dinner (vegetarian). I exercised 3 times last week, one 90 minute bicycle ride and two (90 - 100 minute) nice long walks after dinner. I’m quite overweight and am assuming the weight loss will decrease as I approach my healthy weight range. I feel great with a lot more energy than I’ve had in the past (heaviest weight was 231 lbs).

205.4 on 9/19
5lb weight loss

Moving average numbers:
211.3 on 9/1
206.7 on 9/19
4.6lb weight loss

Goal is 5 lbs, so moving average (what I keep an eye on) is almost there!

But, I have a week of vacation next week, so I'm guessing there will be some regression. I'm not looking to overindulge, but I'm not going to limit my calories or carbs since it'll be good times with family.

I'm in for 5 lbs.  That might be an overly modest target since I (for some reason) spiked up like 4 lbs on my end of August number.  It is pretty crazy how much my numbers (I use one of those bio impedance scales) can move around over a couple of days.

Down 3.3 lbs month to date, but like I said the starting point was kind of artificially high since I just spiked up almost 4 lbs at month end (in like one day).  My weight is bouncing around like crazy but I'm lifting a fair amount too.

Um never mind. I started creatine supplementation and wow I pretty much instantly gained around 5 lbs.  So now I'm up 2lbs for the month.

I fell off the wagon during/after an entire week of work travel.

Up to 203 this morning, 7 day average up to 201.2......so I''m now 6.2lbs above my goal, with 10 days left in the month.

135.4 this morning. Finally back on a downward trend.

Had to leave my workout 15 minutes early today to get to a deposition on time, but still got a good burn in. Ran mostly on 4%+ inclines so my heart rate was up almost the whole time.

Actual Weigh Ins
210.4 on 9/1
203.6 today
6.8 lbs lost

Moving 7 Day Average
211.3 on 9/1
205.5 today
5.8 lbs lost

So my moving average is now firmly over my 5 lb loss goal. Woot! I have vacation the last week of September and I'm really going to try hard to continue weight loss. So, a challenge for me within this challenge thread!

I think that's a great idea!  I know when I go on vacation I enjoy being able to eat whatever delicious food they have in the area that you can't get at home.   But it's a great idea to think about what wonderful exercise they have in the area that is different from at home.   Scuba diving, hiking, rock climbing, beach walking, cliff climbing....

Or what great (low carb, diet, whatever you are into) food they have that might be different from what you eat at home.   Maybe find some new and fun foods?

9/22  181.3

I had three “cheat” meals last week instead of one, and I was able to get in three 90 minute walks. I’m going to skip next weeks cheat meal and stick to a whole food plant based diet the entire week (basically not eat out) and exercise at least three times. I might not reach my 178lb goal but I’m really happy with my progress this month. Knowing I’m posting my numbers here helped me walk past the office treats. 😊

9-2   189.4
9-10 188.4
9-16 187.6
9-19 184.4

9-22  187

Really not happy.  I ate one small serving of lasagna last night for dinner, and a 400 calorie ravioli frozen dinner for lunch.  That was enough to push me back up 2 pounds?

Just going to keep on keeping on.

Yep, that's just what you have to do.

If it helps, that frozen dinner was probably loaded with salt. You're probably just a bit waterlogged today. If you stay on track it should be gone soon.

I am slightly hesitant to announce it too soon, but, you guys, I've been under the magical 160 number for 4 days now!!! I don't think I'll hit my goal for September, but I did finally hit a BMI of 25!   Bodyfat wise I'm still at "what's a muscle?" But we're working on that.

Overall, I'm down 20 lbs for the year or halfway to where I wanted to be by now. I'm back to the weight I'd been maintaining around for about 5 years until things got out of hand last year.  20 lbs to go to goal and then I'll reevaluate.

#12 for this month. Mostly a “green” day because (1) I started with weights instead of on the treadmill so I was too tired to get my heart rate up that high; and (2) I’ve started power walking on inclines instead of running because I was losing booty! :-(

Weight update: finally got some movement. 134.0.

Ok, back down 3 lbs for the month.  Overcame the (likely) water weight gain from the creatine (peaked at about +7 lbs).

1st of September I was 96.3 kg.  My aim is a loss of 1.4 kg, to 94.9 kg.  Not a huge target, but one I really want to hit and keep.

96.6 kg today.  No real movement yet, but considering what I ate on the weekend, not too bad.

96.2 today.  Consistent, but not going down.  Better have a good weekend.

95.9 the last couple of mornings. It's small, but a start.

94.4 this morning. :)

I made it!  Now to keep it off.  Looking for less than 90 by Christmas.

Down 8.2 for September from 164 to 155.8! It's my first time meeting my goal this year!

Part of it I attribute to more aggressive calorie tracking and a delayed effect of the increase in physical activity that started in August, BUT a good chunk is just water weight. I started a medication last week that has the side effect of being a diuretic and the scale has been falling daily. I was around 159 when I started it. I don't really know what to do with this info. I assume this water whoosh will start to stabilize soon and then I'll be able to see where I am and set a new short term goal from there.

I'm also bracing myself for it to go whooshing back on when I go off the meds. It will be distressing when it happens, even if I know why. I'll probably be on them for a couple months at least, potentially significantly longer, so there is time for my body to adjust to this and get on with the real weight loss in the meantime.

Down a total of 9.6lbs for the month! I’ve been averaging a 4lb loss per month, and I have about 20 more pounds to lose before I’m in my healthy weight range. I haven’t been in the 170’s since high school. I’ve struggled with weight my entire adulthood, and now that my finances are in order and I’m not stressing over debt, I have room in my life to concentrate on healthy eating and exercise. Feeling blessed for finding this group.

Meh.  Only did a 3 spot this month.  Need to pick it up next month!

Up 2 pounds this month. A lot of that is monthly cycle related, but still! Need to pick up the pace.

I’m in. I’d like to drop 9 lbs this month. I have a lot to drop so this shouldn’t be impossible, but will still be a challenge.

I’m down 6.4 lbs. Not quite what I wanted, but not bad either. Since starting to lose weight in August, I’m down 15.4 lbs.

I got sick last Monday, started eating carbs again, and really lost all my self control.

Finally got back on the scale today (Oct 2) to see the damage -- I am still 184 pounds.

So I'd say I lost about 5.4 pounds.   Still a few pounds over my goal weight for the month, but under the circumstances I will take it!   And keep working through October.

Woops. Maybe I spoke too soon. Back up to 158.8 today. Maybe my body is already adjusting to the meds and cancelling out the initial water weight loss?  I think my goal for October is just going to be to get to 155 and stay steady there for a little bit.
