This BBC article details the public health effort in the UK:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44980893In short: can you quit social media cold turkey for a month? (Or if you must check in, can you drastically restrict your access to it?)
For me, the main culprits are facebook, tumblr, and this forum. I've quit for a week before; I'm hoping a longer break will help me figure out what a healthy middle ground looks like, because after one week I jump right back into it.
I still intend to use texting/messaging apps. Facebook Messenger Lite is allowed - I don't have the FB app, so it can't lead to scrolling. And I'm not going to quit Snapchat, simply because I don't use it much, and when I do it's not as social media. It's just an easier way to send pictures than SMS. Basically, I'm allowed to directly message specific people; I'm not allowed to scroll through something without intention.
Starting a thread on this may be counterproductive, since my goal is not to post or read here for the month of September. But if there's interest I'd love to hear your reflections at the end, so feel free to PTF now. What are your online vices?
