$ 48,000 401k (two parties, both over 50)
$ 36,000 Vanguard.
$ 20,000 Rental property purchase.
=================
$109,000 Total savings

and

$ 33,000 living expenses
$   5,000 short term debt payoff.
========================
$ 38,000 Total expenses

We fell off the budget wagon the last two months and also upped some charity contributions.   Otherwise I would add another $5000 to the above savings numbers.  Some of that is rental renovation money but not all of it.

74% savings rate is my goal for 2015.

(This last year we ended up with somewhere around 63%.    We were on track to hit 67% until the last two months.  ) Don't know if we'll make that much of an improvement this year but we won't know if we don't try.

If I can actually turn my jewelry-making hobby into a jewelry-making side business that will help.

Goal = $30k

How?
* Automatically withdraw $900 per fortnight = $23,400 (after tax income $1500/ft night)
* Save tax return = $7000-$8000 (I should do the paperwork so they're withdrawing the correct amount of tax, but meh)

 Gross Job: ~ 42k
Profit from Rental: 5k
Side gigs: ~3k

Savings Goals:
457: 18k
IRA: 5.5k (still not sure if I'll do Roth or Trad this year, currently 12k in Roth)

Create a 3k emergency fund (I have about 27k cash right now, but I should be buying a place in March/April and will pretty much use all of my current savings.)

I'm in. Want to put this in writing so it's official.

The goal is to hit an 85% savings rate (of pay after taxes) in 2015.

We're close to a 80% savings rate for 2014. I think we're at 79% as of November. Haven't done the finance totals for December yet. Hoping we'll hit that 80% though for 2014. For 2013 we were at a 69% savings rate for the last three months of 2013 (when I started tracking).

I originally found MMM around September 2013. SO got on board by November 2013. 2014 will be our first complete year as Mustachians. We made several optimizations this year (sold TWO cars, moved closer to work, got a handle on grocery spending, kept utility bills low, drove less, drove 55 when forced to drive, etc) many of which we've been feeling the benefits of for the latter half of 2014 especially. Having a full year of those I don't think will get us to 85% alone. For the remainder, we're planning on moving to a new apartment in 2015 which should give us another 1% or so and my SO got a nice raise which is probably another 1-2%. The challenge will be finding if I can squeak out a % or two from other optimizations or perhaps increased income.

Well my goal was to max TFSA - $17500

but you guys make me feel like a wimp!

So I will add $5000 to emergency fund to the goal list.

If you have room, you should put your emergency fund into your TFSA. A lot of brokerage accounts will pay interest on your TFSA cash balance if you don't feel comfortable investing your emergency fund in index funds. If you have to withdraw your emergency fund, you will get the contribution room back the next year anyway.

Yeah, currently my emergency fund is in my TFSA. I just meant I could add 5000 savings on top of that once I max the TFSA.

2015 goals.

Gross is $93K.

~$9.5K is mandatory employee contribution to retirement pension fund
[NB: if you don't vest (10 yrs needed and I'm 4 years in), get $ back less 20% for taxes]
$24K to my 457.
$6.5K to my Roth.
$2.4 to my dividend stock investment account.
$3.6 to my travel account.
$46K total

any extras (reduced spending, side gigs) go to investment account and/or saving-to-build-a-house fund.

NICE!

~105 gross

IRA 1 & 2: Max
401k: Max
Down Payment Savings: 6500
Car Replacement Fund: 3000
Taxable Investments: 6000
Charity: 10500

Total: 45k
Savings Rate: 42%
Charity Rate: 10%
Spend Rate: 48%

The taxable is my stretch goal - it isn't actually on my budget now. However, living in the developing world and not knowing what I need to spend (recently relocated), I think this might actually be a little low. The problem is that travelling is very expensive from where I am and I will need to do a decent amount of it. An additional point that might make this low is the possibility of a nice pay raise in the middle of the year (no more than $400/month). We'll see how things play out.

And another question - for those that give to charity, do you count that as an expense and keep your net income the same?  That's how I'd think to do it (i.e. 100k take home I'd give 10k to charity but still count my income as 100k).

I know this probably seems silly to ask, I'd just feel dumb if I posted an X% savings rate at the end of the year and then post my numbers and realize I'm talking about apples and you guys are talking about oranges.

I think your goals are your goals.  It can be fun to compare saving a certain % of your gross income, but at the end of the day, this thread is just for you to put in writing what your goals are for 2015.  Then you can check it throughout the year to see if your performance is close to your goal or not.

Right, the point is make meaningful goals, although it can be nice to know if there's an 'accepted' protocol.  Regarding FIRE savings rate, this is from the forum FAQ:

How do you calculate a Savings Rate?
The quick and dirty answer to this question is how much money do you save as a percentage of take-home pay. It starts to get more complex as we introduce various factors; such as income streams, pensions, pre-tax savings...etc.

This topic has been started with MMM's post about “The Shockingly Simple Math Behind Early Retirement” and has been covered several times in the forums.

65K gross. Bonus is 10%.

14-18k in 401k (max if I get my bonus otherwise not)
5.5k IRA
3,350 HSA

23k-27k

Maxing everything is my stretch goal. 22% into the 401k with a monthly budget of 2,500 for 2 people.

Based on current projections, we will be able to save about $27k. This will bring our total net worth to 52k assuming flat market conditions. If SO gets a job, she will make anywhere from $0 to $11k. Adding this to the net worth total, it comes to $63k. This is in line with the gauntlet challenge. Stretch goal of 70k possible with some side hustle and the year end bonus. Can we get to $100k in 2016?

Net pay under current projections is $62k. Savings rate of 44%. Stretch goal savings rate would be 60%.

Gross -- 110,000

403b -- 18,000
Roths -- 11,000
Emergency fund -- 5,000
Index funds -- 10,000

40% of our gross income.   We also have $5,000 debt to pay off.  That is all the easy stuff.   If we go full tilt on our Mustachianism, we could get the index fund to $15,000 or more, but I will be very happy with the above plan.

Question  - when you count savings rates do you include the principal portion of your mortgage payment? I ask as we have a 15 year mortgage so about $11,500 of our $24,000 in payments this year will go towards the principal.  If we had a 30 year I'd have a lower mortgage payment but would obviously be paying off less of my house each month.

I have the same question.  It never occurred to me to count principal repayment as savings but I guess it is not a typical expense but more of a transfer to another account (which is just highly illiquid).  Anyway, interested to hear what others think about that.

Net income ~30 000€.

Goal is to save 8450€ to index funds and pay 5200€ extra to mortgage. It's about 44% savings rate, which is going to be tough for me, because my wife is on maternity leave the whole year. So I have to be more responsible in supporting the family, which includes me, wife and a newborn baby girl.

Our goal is to live on one income (<$55k). All money above that will go into house deposit or investing.

So, I thought I was going to come back here and say we'd already failed. However, YNAB tells me we have spent $41.5k so far this year, so we haven't gone over the line yet. With 4 months to go and $14k, I think we'll end up over spending, maybe as much as $7k over, depending on if expenses fall in December or January. Fingers crossed we can drop a few things and keep it down to get closer :)

We went over by $9k, and the spending was spread over many pieces rather than one obvious splurge. OK, there was one splurge, my engagement ring :)

Our goals for next year:
1. <$60k in basic spending
2. Get married, while keeping the spending sensible
3. Actually buy some ETFs.
4. SO gets a regular income source.

I think if we manage all those, we'll be sweet. They are all reasonable and achievable, no stretch goals in there. Life is bouncy enough!
Moving from 2014 to 2015. I want $5k in shares by the end of the year :)

Hopefully max 401k and $16.5k worth or IRAs (2x this year, DW's 2014) and an individual HSA.

We "borrowed" a bunch of money from cash savings we need to repay ourselves too.

My tax return should help with these goals, too, though hard to count that as "savings."

Combined Take Home $82K
TSP Contribution: $18K - max (thanks to MMM 2015 will be my first year doing this)
rIRA: $5.5K - max
Taxable: $13.2K (up $1.2K from last year)

At the end of the year if I have more saved (most likely) it will go into an indexed Mutual Fund for long term investing for a house down-payment. Last year I saved over half of my 2016 rIRA contribution already. Thanks to this website I also had enough extra to scratch together a nice indexed mutual fund I just opened this month. That's what gave me the idea for the long term house purchase planning.

In 2010 I started my job with 600.00 in my bank account and about 2k in a rIRA that I hadn't contributed to in about 5 years. Luckly I didn't have any debt. I never would have though I'd be nearly 20% to the 1 million mark for retirement so soon. Thank you to everyone for sharing your wisdom!

Net income is $150,000 household (self and wife) -

2015 target 2x TFSA = $11,000; maxed out RSPs ($42,000); Son's RESP ($8,000) plus $48000 in investment account for a total savings rate of (109/150)*100 or 73.9%. All being well ... we shall see!!!

Making this more challenging, I just purchased a new/used car - $10.7K after my 2001 trade in.
So far, all of the above is on track and the Roth has been fully funded.  BUT, I have to replace $6K to my saving-to-build-a-house fund that I "borrowed" for the car.

Gross Income 105k, Net 60K

Savings:
401k: $18,000
Employer 401k Match: $10,280
IRA: $10,000 (Opening in March and contributing 4.5k for 2014 tax year, 5.5k for 2015)
HSA: $6,650 (Planning on not touching this money)
529: $1,680

Charity $10.5k

Last year was our first time maxing out my 401k and we had a total savings of 28k.  This year I'm opening a tIRA and contributing to that for 2014 and 2015 and shooting for a total savings of 45k or more.  I'll be happy with that as we have child #4 on the way.  Next year we'll try for 50k+

We have lots of excess spending, mostly food and alcohol, that we can cut back on this year and use to open a taxable account, so that will be a stretch goal that we can contribute to after any bills related to the baby are covered.

Gross: ~$105k
Takehome + 401k contributions: $72k

401k: $17k (employer max) + $2.5k employer contribution
IRA 1: $5.5k
IRA 2: $5.5k

Total: $41,500 to be invested in 2015. That's 57% of takehome, or 40% of gross.

2015 savings goals:

18K - 457
18K + 18.5% (about 44K total) - Solo 401K
11K - 2X Roth IRAs
21K (hopefully more) extra on Mortgage

So that's about 94K.

2014 -net worth increased by 60K
2015 goal- increase net worth by 75k
No raise- only side gigs, per diem savings, and less spending to make up the extra 15K - its a stretch goal

Finish paying off debt first, THEN save $10k. Not counting the $3k plus my employers steals--i mean--deducts against my will for the pension plan I will never use. Given my income and expenses this is a super optimistic goal. The first $8k would be reasonable, the last $2k is a personal challenge.

I know we are already almost a quarter into 2015, but I felt to hold myself accountable, I needed to put these goals in writing.  I can already feel the slip in my budget in spring...

401(k) - $18,000 + 3,240 from employer
Roth IRA - $3,000
Trad IRA - $2,500
Cash savings account - $20K (emergency fund with potential to become a down payment; starting at $5K)
Taxable Account - $5K (starting at 2K)

My gross salary is about 60K and I have a side gig which gives me some infrequent cash, but I've got some medical bills I am working to pay off to start this year, so it's going to be a little more uphill that it appears.  Here's to everyone else aspiring to save more money in 2015!

save $2000 monthly into work ira.

possibly save another $500 when 2nd car is sold, but not sure yet. considering i think i'm less than 3yrs away from fire, $500 a month for the next 3 years will not turn reduce fire for me into 2 years. if i could reduce it to 2 i would, but i'd have to live on essentially nothing but food and water and live for free somewhere because i would have to save 100%.

Late to the party:

Max IRA (done)
Max 401k
scrape as much as I can towards my ESPP (to flip at first opportunity and reinvest in taxable account), something like 2-5k

Gross income ~75k (will likely be higher with bonus and side gig)

401K: $18,000 + $4,500 match
Roth IRA: $5,500
Taxable: $15,000
---------------------
Total: $43,000

Now that the year is (almost) over, time to see how things went.

Overall, it was a great year!  Between some nice bonuses, side gig, and a promotion I beat my projections/goal by 10k.

Gross income ~90k

401K: $18,000 + $5,277 match
Roth IRA: $5,500
Taxable: $24,458
---------------------
Total: $53,235

My Gross income exceeded projections by 15k and I was able to put all of it (minus taxes) towards investments.

65K gross. Bonus is 10%.

14-18k in 401k (max if I get my bonus otherwise not)
5.5k IRA
3,350 HSA

23k-27k

Maxing everything is my stretch goal. 22% into the 401k with a monthly budget of 2,500 for 2 people.

Got a fresh look at my numbers for the year. If I include SO in this, I can update the numbers a bit for accuracy's sake.

More updates. Since SO and I are getting married this year, we can save more!

IRA 1: $5,500
IRA 2: $5,500
401k: $18000 + $600 employer match
HSA: $3,350

Total: ~$33k.
Income: $71.5k
Savings Rate: 46% of gross

Estimated Invested Assets on 12/31/2015: $50k with stretch goal of $60k.
Estimated Net Worth on 12/31/2015: $60k with stretch goal of $80k.
Estimated $100k date: 1/1/2017
Estimated barebones FIRE date: 12/31/2028

Actual:
IRA 1: $5,500
IRA 2: $5,500
401k: $9,700 (including match)
HSA: $1,400
Taxable: $1,000
IRA 3: $1,000 (last year's for DW as a Roth)
Cash: ~$15,000

Total: ~$39k
Income: ~85k (net)
Savings rate: 46%

Net worth estimate for 12/31/2015: $58k ($2k short of what I thought)
Estimated Net Worth on 12/31/2016: $90k
Estimated $100k Date: 3/1/2017
Estimated barebones FIRE date: 12/31/2033

Gross: 43k
Take home: 27k

Current savings:
Savings account: ~$6400
Savings account 2: ~1800
Cash: ~1800
401(k): ~23k

Goals by May of 2015: (Plan on buying a house...hence the large build up in liquid cash)
Savings account: ~11.5k (+5.1k)
Savings account 2: ~3k (+1.2k)
Cash: ~2.5k (+1.7k)
401(k): keep my 6% contribution rate (they match 70% up to 6%)
That will be about $7k in savings in 5 months...which will be a savings rate of about 60%...so i guess these are some serious stretch goals.

This will hopefully leave me with around $17k in liquid cash accounts. Buy a house with a small down payment. Remaining cash goes to furnish it, any repairs, open up an IRA, and hopefully have a little left over to start an "emergency fund".

Actual balances:
Savings account (E. Fund): ~$4500
Checking: ~$1000
401(k): ~ $30k - kept my 6% contribution rate (bumped it to 10% this month)
IRA: ~$2000

So, I hit my goal of 17-18k, but a few months later than expected (august instead of may). I bought my house, I started my E. Fund, and i opened and contributed a little to an IRA. No idea what my savings rate was, but i hit my goals, so it really doesnt matter!

We've exceeded our 2015 savings goal which was $54,000.  We saved $62,000 in 2015.

We're going to set the goal once again at $54,000.  I do hope to exceed that once again in 2016.

So...
1. Yes! Just under at $59,000.
2. Got married, considered spending sensible, had a great time.
3. Didn't buy any shares at all.
4. SO had an income ALL YEAR! It was amazing. But it was a contract extension all year, no nice shiny "Full Time Employee" status. We're pleased but it's going to be a revolving goal :)

One income is less than I thought (due to an extra 4 weeks of purchased leave), so I'm going to aim for $55k again next year, bringing it down by $4,000. We negotiated a lower rent, so we only have to find another $2k of savings :D

Hopefully max 401k and $16.5k worth or IRAs (2x this year, DW's 2014) and an individual HSA.

We "borrowed" a bunch of money from cash savings we need to repay ourselves too.

My tax return should help with these goals, too, though hard to count that as "savings."

We managed to do this plus another $4k or so in cash savings towards a future house!

We also exceeded our savings goal for 2015 that I set Dec 31 2014.  We saved over $65K, and our goal was $53K.  We also paid off just over $50K in debt, so we increased our net worth by about $120K in one year.   2016 the goal is to save $55K and pay off a $22K 2nd mortgage for a $77K swing.

We should have a pretty solid year in 2015.  The stretch goal would be awesome to hit, not sure how realistic it is for us though.

Gross will be Approx 100k give or take.

Main Savings goal.
401k: 18k+6k match
Wife 401k: 18k + 1.5k match
2 TIRA's: 11k

Total = 54.5k (After Match)

Stretch goal - Add 20k to taxable investments or principal payoff towards home.

Ended up meeting our stretch goal for the year.  However, some plans changed and we are keeping it in cash accounts for now.  Now to repeat in 2016!

Goal is to save 70% (after tax/deductions take-home pay plus personal 401K contributions, not employer match).

Surpassed this goal. Woot!

Gross: ~$105k
Takehome + 401k contributions: $72k

401k: $17k (employer max) + $2.5k employer contribution
IRA 1: $5.5k
IRA 2: $5.5k
taxable: $11k

Total: $41,500 to be invested in 2015. That's 57% of takehome, or 40% of gross.

Exceeded this goal with a total of $44,500 invested this year. Woo!

2016's goal is to invest $10k more than we did this year, so $54,000 total. Might be a stretch, but why not?

Gross: $79K

401K: $18K
HSA: $2.3K
IRA: $5.5K
Taxable: $14.5 K
------------------
Total: $40.3K (savings rate ~64%)

That's the goal anyways. Downsizing to a smaller apartment and having discovered MMM will help.

I crushed this goal! 2015 NW increase: $49.3K

That means I beat my goal by $9K, thanks to a raise, career switch, kicking up the frugal badassity, and downsizing to a smaller apartment.

2016's goals are very different, considering that the SO is quitting his job to go back to school. Even so, I think I can still hit a 50% savings rate. TBD.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
