cash+rental equity       add primary residence equity
1/2016      $507K                      $627K
1/2017      $625K                      $797K

9/2017      $784K                      $904K

12/2017    $762K                      $903K  - remodeling primary residence! When project is done, big increase in equity!

3/2018     $725K                       $866K - still remodeling. Framing and all exterior done, all bills paid! (to contractors)

6/2018     $763K                       $910K    Hmmm. Zillow values for rental properties went way up. Making progress on the remodel.  Plumbing, insulation, electrical done. Just drywall, flooring remains!

9/2018    $830K                       $945K   We're painting this weekend! Just flooring and trim left on the remodel!  Cash went up because we paid off a bunch of credit card debt with HELOC. (0%promo rate was ending)

12/2018   $821K                      $964K   Slow and steady progress on the remodel. Thinking about selling a rental in 1stQ or 2ndQ 2019.

3/2019    $833K             $977K     Just trim is left on the remodel. Rental house is on the market.

1MM dates now   6/2021            7/2019

Hi All,

Graduated from the 250-500k club back in June 18 but waited a while to join this one until it seemed like it would stick. Look forward to seeing how I do on this race - alot of the previous gains came about from getting married and combining assets.
Assets include primary residence, rental property, and investment portfolio. Liabilities are two mortgages.

                        Assets   Liabilities   Net Worth
July 2018            $939k        -$433k         $505k
August 2018        $956k        -$431k         $525k
September 2018  $975k        -$435k         $539k
October 2018       $953k        -$435k        $518k
November 2018    $962k        -$429k        $533k
December 2018    $962k        -$427k        $534k
January  2019      $977k        -$425k        $552k
February 2019      $1004k      -$428k        $576k

Doing better so far in 2019 - ended February right around 845k. Onward!

Welp, ending this year at $777k. First time since I've been tracking that I've had a down year, ouch. Even without the roughly ~30k in medical expenses I'd still be down, but not as dramatically. Oh well, here's hoping 2019 is better for my NW!

+162k this year! Pretty awesome bump and definitely more than my salary. Have some significant planned medical expenses next month that will put a ~5k dent in that, but I'll enjoy the number for now. :)

December 2017: 812k
November 2017: 799k
October 2017: 790k
September 2017: 776k
August 2017: 752k
July 2017: 751k
June 2017: 737k
May 2017: 732k
April 2017: 720k
March 2017: 711k
February 2017: 703k
January 2017: 680k
December 2016: 650k
December 2015: 487k
December 2014: 412k
December 2013: 350k

Pretty impressive calendar year of 2018 there, MikeO with SP moving essentially sideways, but your NW increasing by 20%

$703k invested as of today, up from ~$550k 15 months ago.  On track to have invested $60k by the end of the year.  Just need it to double (plus inflation) and I'll be at my number.  7 more years..
795k invested, 980k total NW.  Hitting 1M total NW is so close.  Still 6.5 years before I can pull the trigger.

My wife looks like she is picking up a decent 3/4 time work from home job (email out of the blue from her boss from 12 years ago), well timed with the kid starting Kindergarten this fall.  We might be able to shave a couple years off if it pans out.
$850k invested, $1085k NW.  Just over 5 years before I can pull the trigger.

not so much when you consider I put in $85,000!   we actually lost.  2017 plus 85k is 523,627 so we are actually down by 5k in 2018.   year 16-17 was much better, we only invested 40k in 17 so we gained over 75k in interest.  be nice to see a few of those years repeat.

Congrats to all of you out there making gains in your life capital. This month marks a milestone for my family just touching the big M. Maybe others can relate, but I'm finding it a strange feeling to not share the celebration with our friends and family.

I'm no doctor (spoiler alert an Engineer), but after reading the White Coat Investor's take on celebrating, we decided to have a nice dinner out to mark the occasion. We chose the best restaurant in town and got the next available reservation three months from now. Painfully expensive, but I've committed to not back down.

What'll you do to mark the occasion? My original plan was always to just get pizza and move on.

Here's the chart from November 2016 crossing 500K to today. These are NW numbers and include about 350K in home equity between our primary home and a rental property. No other debt except a small mortgage on the rental.

Not much new in my corner of the world. Just chugging along right on target. Once we hit $1M net worth, we will probably change our target to be 1M liquid.

I came back here just to see if anyone was going to say "too soon!"  Net worth dropped about $14k today.  Besides, we already hit our restaurant limit for the month.

Estimates of NW over the years with more concrete values currently
2011: $40k  Real estate sucked (I'm a realtor and own rentals), income was low and equity was non existent.  Tough times!
2012: $55k
2013: $75k
2014: $160k  Being a realtor and also having a large portion of NW in real estate helped income and value go up drastically. (income $155k) plus asset appreciation
2015: $295k  (income $210k) plus asset appreciation
2016: $505k (income $242k) plus asset appreciation
Started using Mint for tracking in 2017
2017: March $515
         April $500 spent money... :(
         May $521
         June $573
         July $588
         Aug $605k
         Sep $647k
         Oct $650k
         Dec $684K
2018
         Jan $725k
         July $780k

Almost forgot about this thread.  Spent the last few months rehabbing and flipping a house so that took a lot of free time.  Should close on that sale in a few weeks.

2019
       April $928k

And the bank website is down so, sadly, I cannot complete the calculations.  Looks like we are in positive territory for the month in any event.

I remember thinking in the 250k-500k thread that you seemed way off in the distance. Now we've caught up and are sitting at just over $700k ourselves.

No investment changes logged - that would make a big difference, but I do that quarterly. Had to make my last estimated quarterly tax payment as a contractor. Now I'm full-time - less pay. Things will be on a smaller scale, and growth will be a little slower. But overall everything will be a little smoother.

Slow crawl for the moment. It'll get better, I swear.

It got better. Q1 was a good Q.

I’ve been lurking here for months and finally registered.

Just calculated our NW earlier today. We are $943,628.

Our goal is to hit $1M by year end.

We’ve had some really good years recently. In late 2016, we were at just over $525K!

December 2013: 142K
December 2014: 231K (+89K year on year, although numbers back this far are a bit fuzzy because my old student loan providers have wonky websites)
December 2015: 326K (+185K year on year, including self-financed wedding and 60K assessment paid mostly in cash)
December 2016: 511K (+185K year on year)
December 2017: 698K (+187K year on year)
December 2018: 766K (+68K year on year).  Doesn't look bad, but I put 60K in the market this month, so it's not great. I paid that 8K divorce retainer, though!
January 2019: 808K  Good but not great given the cash I've plowed in.  Oh, well.  On the horizon are potential home sale and relocation so it probably won't be a great six months.  I've been booking 50K in "home sale costs" which hopefully be roughly accurate.  I'm also going to take a probably significant pay cut, which will really slow my progress.  I'm trying to remind myself that the POINT of saving was to be able to down shift!
February 2019: 821K (+13K this month)  Hoping the separation agreement will be final and I will have relocated in the next 60-90 days.  I'm sure I'll be hemorrhaging cash for a while, but hopefully worth it long term.

I have not run any rough numbers on taxes, but assume I will be in the hole this year as a dual income coastal HCOL professional.
March 2019: TECHnically 933K (+112K this month) BUT:
  • I'm building a big cash position for a down payment (107K), car purchase (12K?), furnishing of new house (???), new daycare deposit and first month (2K) and move cross country.
  • I owe 25K in federal income tax (getting 5K from state)
  • I'm going to be income-less for ~3-4 weeks
  • I still owe my lawyer 2500
  • A ~50K chunk of this is optimism on Zillow's part
So I may realistically be more at ~860K

On an up note, the separation agreement is signed and I have a job offer signed and relocation is going to get underway in a couple weeks.

I didn't work for over half of the month of March, unpaid mind you, and still came out $11,000 richer.

The big news is that we crossed $500,000 in pure investments (basically 100% VTSAX). That number made us stop for a good 15 seconds and go "wow!" before going on with our day.

I wish I had a 100% accurate FIRE number like some of you guys, but seeing as we are anywhere from 3-5 years away yet, it's hard to pin anything down!

OK, well I'm as surprised as anyone with the over $100K leap in three months....  I changed jobs, for a lower paying one (you can read the whys and wherefores in my journal linked in my signature).  Most was certainly market appreciation, but I do think I got a little bump with my one week vacation payout and also with the medical insurance  changeover, there are some bills not paid for that will likely drain a few thousand.  I did see my house value jumped about $20K as well, which helps, but how real it is, who knows.
