It's moving up pretty fast IMO.  I don't think we are doing anything that extraordinary.  We are not badass like many of the posters here.  We have a healthy joint income, we live in a LCOL metro area, and we have a 40% savings rate.  That's about it.

i just worked out that our house, bought right before the real estate bubble popped, has saved us 50 k, when compared to a comparable rental.
so the house was a bad investment, but not as bad as renting in the same place for 11 years.

I'd like to join this awesome group.

I've been lurking for awhile but have some sort of weird imposter syndrome thing going on since most of my net worth is currently in pension and real estate. Also, I'm unlikely to get to 1M before I quit my full time job. However, the plan is to get to 700k, sell everything, invest profits, and go nomadic for a few years (5-10), perhaps working casual, part-time, random, or fun jobs here and there while the investments coast to 1M.

Currently
Real estate equity 280k
Pension commuted value 203k
All other 158k

Total 641k

After hitting 900k I finally feel like 1M is in sight! Numbers below are just our invested assets and do not include the current value of our pensions (800k) or home equity (200k). Feeling like we're doing OK for being 44 and 42 yo.

End 2015 $482k
End 2016 $628k
End 2017 $811k
Sep 2018  $905k

Welcome @Cookie78!  Love your free spirited plan.  In another reality I would do the same thing. In this reality I have a family that would balk.  :)

+1!  I mean there are valid answers (you want to live in Manhattan forever, you have a special needs kid, etc), but... you should seriously consider stopping fulltime work.

Thank you. :)

I'm looking forward to it, and constantly questioning whether it'll work out as planned. :p I guess time will tell. What I do know is that I can last much longer in cubicle-ville.

Simple answer is that we spend way too much money!

Income between two jobs, side-gig, basement rental are ~190k. About 90k of that is spend on contributions to what I consider savings: deff comp, 401k, Roth, pension, social security, home equity, etc. We spend the remaining 100k on mortgage, taxes, living expenses, etc. Family of four living in HCOL area of Alaska.

Time to throw down the gauntlet and reduce some of our expenses!

We spent a TON of money on travel this month. Probably 4 grand between booking an around the world trip next March, a week in Hawaii in November, and two domestic trips for family. Worse yet, I don't get paid vacation!

I figure in general this will push FIRE off a month or so... oh well!

I think I need to turn in my MMM pin for a month!

                 LNW      TNW
Jan 2018 -  846K  /  987K
Feb 2018 -  880K / 1.02M
Mar 2018 -  859K / 1.00M
Apr 2018 -  855K /   996K
May 2018 - 856K /   999K
Jun 2018  - 875K / 1.02M
Jul  2018  - 887K /  1.03M
Aug 2018  - 922K / 1.07M
Sep 2018  - 944K / 1.09M
Oct 2018  - 948K / 1.09M

Kind of a 'meh' month on the NW front.  Spending was about 1.5K higher than normal this month. Lots of stuff comes due this time of year:  termite contract renewal, auto tag renewal, lawn care annual renewal & auto insurance renewal.  Also bought airline tickets for a trip early next year.  Still in the black though!

April -17   $446,004.04 (+39,424)
July-17     $496,327.00 (+50,322)

Compounding is beginning to accelerate. Savings Rate, however, BY FAR!!!!! still drives the quarterly NW increases.

507K in investments (291K stocks and bonds, 150K rental home (on market now), 14K in shiny things, 52K in a work sponsored savings account)
Cash savings for taxes, insurance and emergencies (8K)
121K in the home we own now (free and clear)
17K in a chunk of property we plan to build retirement home on
One modest truck (2000 Chevy truck)
On modest camper (18' Jayfeather)
All total about 665K today
We have more in valuable bikes, but I can't part with those until my legs cease to work.

We had an epiphany in Sept 2017, that maybe we could actually retire someday.  We started really throwing down savings better.  We increased our net worth by 100K in the last calendar year.  Not bad.

December 2013: 142K
March 2014: 178K
June 2014: 191K
September 2014: 205K
December 2014: 231K
March 2015: 232K (I self financed half a wedding this quarter, and began subsidizing now husband)
June 2015: 249K
September 2015: 272K (a new~30K in debt showed in this quarter from the first half of a 60K roof assessment I didn't have cash on hand for)
December 2015: 326K
March 2016: 342K
June 2016: 389K
September 2016: 457K (began booking a 4540K "liability" that I would incur if I wanted to liquidate my condo, which I include in this NW total)
December 2016: 511K (+185K year on year)
March 2017: 599K (I am guessing on numbers for the end of the month, but should be +/- 2K, +142K year on year)
I am towards the end of maternity leave.  I am sure the saving/investing pace won't keep up when I start paying daycare (and maybe working a 70 or 80% schedule for a couple months), but not too bad for being off work!
June 2017: 603K
September 2017: 639K
December 2017: 698K
March 2018: 667K (drop is due to someone having conducted a fire sale of their condo in our very small building during a divorce)
June 2018: 689K
July 2018: 723K  I guess I shouldn't be surprised given my husband's income struggles and how expensive daycare + health insurance is, but at least I'm making progress.  I just switched back to 100% hours so started getting a small bump.  I need to kick my husband's a$$ in to gear on the earning side and buckle down on the restaurants, I think.
August 2018: 749K, YTD: +51K  Not super impressive given the market this year.  I may need to pay more attention to my personalcapital or start calculating manually, because it doesn't seem quite right.  I've maxed my 401K and backdoor IRA (~24K), and invested 42K in my taxable brokerage.  Something isn't adding up.
September 2018:
765K, up about 500 dollars/day this month.  YTD +67K  Market has been cooperating and I have some tailwinds now that I'm done with my SS contributions and 401K and IRA for the year.  I expect to be saving about 3K/paycheck and then all of my bonus.  This number includes a couple thousand of tuition and books for pre-reqs, so I'm pretty happy.

I just graduated to this thread. I was racing from 250K to 500K and just crossed that threshold (link below).

I go by investable assets, currently $501,463. (Home equity is about 200K, so call it 700K TNW.)

A bit of history:

1/1/12 125K
1/1/13 175K
1/1/14 214K
1/1/15 205K
1/1/16 449K
*home addition*
1/1/18 447K
10/1/18 500K

And a bit of projection (assumptions include 80K of education expense in about 4 years, 3% real returns, and saving $7K/mo)...

1/1/20 627K
1/1/21 731K
1/1/22 839K
1/1/23 950K (20K special expense)
1/1/24 1.04M (20K special expense)
1/1/25 1.12M (20K special expense)
1/1/26 1.3M (20K special expense)

9/18 Update - $850K; $245K in home equity, $7K in cash, remainder investments. Up $180K YOY. I just turned 39 and would love to hit $1M by/during my 40th year. That's mostly up to stock market performance, so it's an arbitrary goal, but a fun one no less...

6/18 Update - $799K; $231K in home equity, $11K in cash, remainder in investments. Up ~$170K from when I first started tracking in earnest a year ago (I know, I know). So grateful for the inspiration from MMM and this community!

3/2018 Update - $756K; $222K in home equity, $5K in cash, remainder in investments. It's refreshing to see we're actually up in total over last quarter, although about half of it is home appreciation, which I consider total funny money as we have no plans to sell any time soon.

12/2017 Update - We hit a big milestone this quarter - over $500K in investments!
Current totals - $719K; $194K in home equity, $5K in cash, remainder in investments

9/2017 Update - $670K; $187K in home equity, $10K in cash, remainder in investments

Somewhat embarrassingly, I didn't starting keeping close tabs on my net worth until finding MMM this year. Thankfully, I didn't muck it up too bad up to this point, but I'm hoping to do even better now that I know better! So, let's start here...

6/2017 - $630K; ~$180K in home equity, ~$10K in cash, remainder in investments

Here's my progress thus far:

1/1/2015 - $319,018
3/31/2015 - $358,647
6/30/2015 - $350,887
9/30/2015 - $329,044
12/31/2015 - $340,246
3/31/2016 - $390,030
6/30/2016 - $408.983
9/1/2016 - $447,834
12/31/2016 - $459,043
3/31/2017 - $509,618
6/30/2017 - $520,691
9/30/17 - $553,269
12/31/17 - $557,941
3/31/18 - $583,773
6/30/18 - $590,057

With the market slowing gains were only $4K over the 90 days.  Lots of unexpected expenses as things broke around the house and had to be handled which did not help with accumulating any extra savings.  General expected for costs were also higher than normal so having a positive uptick is still promising.  Will likely take a hit over the remainder of the year as we contemplate a business opportunity and/or my wife returns to college to get a Masters.  Unless something really unexpected happens should stay above $500K, but might be a slow slog for the next couple of years.
9/30/18 - $610,690

The business opportunity (new Amazon delivery services they unveiled) did not pan out and my wife decided to not go back for the Master's so things went forward a bit more normally.  Expenses were higher again as we keep getting a bit too free with our spend than I'd like.  Still a respectable bump in our climb, hopefully placing us solidly above $600K, and likely to have doubled our net worth in four years, if we have a really solid fourth quarter.

Hey all, new member here!

My progress as of the first day of each quarter (only including the quarters relevant to this thread):

July 2017:  $499k
Oct 2017:  $561k
Jan 2018:  $632k
Apr 2018:  $697k
July 2018:  $760k
Oct 2018:  $803k

Asset allocation is roughly 75% stock, 10% bonds, 10% primary residence equity, 5% cash.  Saving about 60% of a pretty large DINK income.  FIRE target is about $2.25M net worth (aiming for 2026 fire date).  The only reason for the large cash allocation is that I'm considering buying some land with some friends to start a cultcommune on and want to keep some seed capital just in case it happens.

Made some great progress with the market runup this past year.  Current NW has dropped back below $800k because of the recent drops and a few large expenditures.  If the market stays strong, I'm hoping to reach $1M by the end of 2019.

what ideology?

I don't know - I'm kind of new to the whole cult thing.  I'm not really the ideas guy of the whole thing, I just am bought into it.  The end goal would be a largely self-sufficient ecovillage/community of like-minded individuals, but that's more of a 15-year plan.  The short-term goals would be establishing an orchard/farming areas and building one or two initial small/tiny homes on the land, and setting it up so we can have communal gatherings there with some regularity (with the plan of improving it over time so we can spend more and more time there until we're living there full-time).  We have group outings and camping trips pretty regularly already, and having a "home base" of our own for these would increase our sense of community within the group for sure.

We jokingly call it a cult amongst ourselves, but really we just want a communal environment where we can all practice our own flavors of sustainable living together.  We all have a pretty similar belief system (science is real, the environment is important, consumption doesn't increase happiness, it takes a village to raise a child, etc), and a lot of us feel pretty strongly about the idea, so as we've been accumulating the means to make this happen, we've been thinking more seriously about it.

wow, that sounds like something worth working toward

keep me in mind when you're setting it up; i can tie a bowline pretty consistently, it would be a useful  knot for communal life

I'm baaaack!  Can I come back?  IDK if that is allowed.  We hit $1M on August 9th.  And again on August 20th, and September 11th.  Now due to market volatility we are at $981K from our 10/1 high of $1.025M.  $44K - poof!  Can't wait to become a millionaire for the 4th time!  Around mid September I figured we were in the clear, but I guess not.  Still in the accumulation phase though, so it's all okay.  Probably 2/3 of the way to pulling the plug at this point.

I was in and out but at the other end of the scale for a couple of months!  It was frustrating but got there in the end and at 1MM movements of a few 10k are IMHO just noise.

Gotta get in my October update, cause after first few days, have a feeling November won't be pretty. With that being said, pretty happy, was able to do my first-ever TLH event today (believe I had to end up doing a small wash sale, but should be okay as long as I report it from my understanding).

1/1/16 - $204k NW (130k Invested)
1/1/17 - $354k NW ($261k Invested)
1/1/18 - $509k NW ($391k Invested)

3/1/18 - $523k NW ($402k Invested)
6/1/18 - $532k NW ($411k Invested)
9/1/18 - $573k NW ($455k Invested)

I'll join; I was on the "race to $500k" thread and blew through $500k without really paying much attention.  Right now liquid NW of $560k, with almost $400k in home equity (yikes!!!), bringing our total NW to $960k.  It'll be a while until we hit $1M in liquid assets, but stacking almost $50k/year before any investment gains means my wife and I should hit it in a couple years.  Reading through this thread sure is motivating though.

So a bit less than a year later (with weird equity returns this year to boot):
Liquid: $630k
Home Equity: $400 (probably has gone up a bit based on local comps)

Total NW $1.03 million.  I'll stay on until we get to $1 million in liquid and then move on.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
