1/1/18   - 633k / 1000k
2/1/18   - 668k / 1034k
3/1/18   - 660k / 1028k

4/1/18   - 665k / 1032k

Higher than normal side gig income the last couple months has offset some of the market decline.  Got to keep my head down and keep adding shares.

                   Invested/Overall NW
End of 2012: 170k / 200k  *(re)married
End of 2013: 295k / 342k
End of 2014: 338k / 388k
End of 2015: 366k / 428k *June - husband quit work to go back to college full-time
End of 2016: 432k / 545k
End of 2017: 532k / 664k [+83k college funds] * Sep - husband started working part-time; still going to college

end of Jan 2018:  553k / 686k  [+85k college funds]
end of Feb 2018: 545k / 679k   [+86k college funds]
end of Mar 2018: 540k / 675k   [+84k college funds]

March was a smaller decrease than I anticipated.  I'm pleased that we're still over the 500k mark - the original schedule had us hitting that by the end of this year.

Dec. 2017: $502k
Jan. 2, 2018: $513.7k
Feb. 5, 2018: $539.9k
Mar. 5, 2018: $543.6k

Apr. 2, 2018: $557.6

Got my bonus this month which is why we ticked up so much even with rocky markets. It was great timing for me since I got to scoop up more shares  for less. We've also made some further cuts to our expenses which is helping us ramp up savings. Staying the course and the future still looks bright =]

3/2018 Update - $756K; $222K in home equity, $5K in cash, remainder in investments. It's refreshing to see we're actually up in total over last quarter, although about half of it is home appreciation, which I consider total funny money as we have no plans to sell any time soon.

12/2017 Update - We hit a big milestone this quarter - over $500K in investments!
Current totals - $719K; $194K in home equity, $5K in cash, remainder in investments

9/2017 Update - $670K; $187K in home equity, $10K in cash, remainder in investments

Somewhat embarrassingly, I didn't starting keeping close tabs on my net worth until finding MMM this year. Thankfully, I didn't muck it up too bad up to this point, but I'm hoping to do even better now that I know better! So, let's start here...

6/2017 - $630K; ~$180K in home equity, ~$10K in cash, remainder in investments

First down month since I have been tracking! Even with a triple paycheck from my wife and a really good month on my part, we still lost $9,000 in paper value. (Meaning we must be down something like $22-25k in the stash)

Oh well! That's what I get for 100% VTSAX! This is pretty fun actually.

Our Stash:
1/2018 - $565,049
2/2018 - $560,628
3/2018 - $573,526

We're focused heavily on debt elimination this year so I've been tracking that number more closely.  Especially since recent market volatility has certainly made frequent NW tracking less sexy!  Nevertheless, I will persist. :)

This year I thought I'd change up my updates to give me more of a historical snapshot and monitor my year over year increase as well.  Tracking my liquid investments only and looking to close the gap on $1MM this year with a stretch goal to actually reach it if all goes well!

YOY Increase     2018           2017           2016

12/01/18   12/01/17   699k12/01/16   531k

Small increase from last month; income will be taking a dip moving forward as my wife has turned in her two weeks notice at her job to tend to some family matters that will make working difficult, but we have already been focusing on cutting back on some expenses this year so that will help.  I also have a job change on the horizon so things are changing quite a bit right now.

Another down month, though not as bad as the last.  Monthly update, including only investments (not house equity or 529 accounts):

6/1/17 --    $647k (+$16k)
7/1/17 --    $655k (+$8k)
8/1/17 --    $665k (+$10k)
9/1/17 --    $672k (+$7k)
10/1/17 --  $684k (+$12k)
11/1/17 --  $702k (+$18k)
12/1/17 --  $724k (+$22k)

2/1/18  --   $761k (+$30k)

Here's my progress thus far:

1/1/2015 - $319,018
3/31/2015 - $358,647
6/30/2015 - $350,887
9/30/2015 - $329,044
12/31/2015 - $340,246
3/31/2016 - $390,030
6/30/2016 - $408.983
9/1/2016 - $447,834
12/31/2016 - $459,043
3/31/2017 - $509,618
6/30/2017 - $520,691
9/30/17 - $553,269
12/31/17 - $557,941
3/31/18 - $583,773

Still good movement.  First year I was eligible for profit sharing at my company since I joined, so that added a bit over $6K to the stash (though only 20% vested so not sure if I should take that out?)  Also annual bonus gets in during this past quarter so even though market was stagnant got a good bump from contributions and extras.  Portfolio gains only about $3K for the 90 day stretch.

First day of a new month--time for another update!  :)

MonthLiquidNet Worth
Jan-17
$604K
$883K
Feb-17$622K$905K
Mar-17$651K$930K
Apr-17$660K$939K
May-17$675K$954K
Jun-17$694K$967K
Jul-17$717K$991K
Aug-17$721K$1,000K
Sep-17$738K$1,007K
Oct-17$762K$1,033K
Nov-17$782K$1,055K
Dec-17$796K$1,058K
Jan-18$836K$1,095K
Feb-18$823K$1,083K
Mar-18$812K$1,081K

Another rough month; overall net worth was boosted by the addition of the $5K to the value of our house in our balance sheet, and we made our usual retirement account contributions and accrued the usual company match, but still pretty brutal.  Still, NW is up roughly 16% over this time last year; I'll take it!

Onward!

@G-Cool and @kapnfriday and others near the $500k mark -- Please don't go anywhere if your numbers dip below that for a month . . .  It's a normal part of the wealth climb.  Just crack open another beer and hang out.

I remember a moment six and a half years ago when my wife installed the mint.com app on her phone and showed me that our family's net worth was $400,000. It freaked me out. The idea that we could have that much money seemed overwhelming to me. When the SP500 had its famous 2011 bear market, we were losing $1,000 a day. Without that damn app, I wouldn't have even known.

Part of that wealth is the fluctuations. All you people who are afraid of falling below $500,000, don't sweat it. Build your risk tolerance muscles!

Hi!
Back at the end of Feb, I jumped ship on the race from 250-500k thread. And then trade wars happened.

I've been patiently waiting for enough of a buffer to build up, but I think I'm confident we are here now.

(Numbers do not include property, just cash and investments)

Aug-2014: 30k

Aug-2016: 65k

Aug-2017: 250k
Sep-2017: 277k
Sept-2017: 290k
Nov-2017: 300k
Dec-2017: 300k
Jan-2018: 499k <- HCOL House sale
Feb-2018: 502k
March-2018: 500k

April-2018: 512k!

Wahoo!

I found an old conversation with MrHH from 2012 (before I found MMM), and commented that "We need to save 75k-100k" before we turned 30.  Feel pretty proud of getting to be 5x that amount.

I also remember setting a goal of saving 200k before having a kid. BabyHH arrives on the scene in a few short weeks, and I guess we exceeded that goal!

All good news this month. A modest NW increase, the final payment went to my SO's student loans yesterday (now debt free except for the house), and I had my work contract renewed, so I have another 4 years of work, which is nice.

When I first joined this thread, my most optimistic projections had us reaching $1000k in September 2020. Now, seven months later, we're tracking April 2020.

Another annual update:

April 2016: $500k -----> saved $54.8k (~75% of income), 90/10 allocation
April 2017: $651k -----> saved $53.4k (~73% income), 60/40 allocation
April 2018: $777k

My investment risk tolerance has shifted over past couple years with political situation, and resulting lower returns last year. Now at 80/20 allocation.

Herewith the April totals:

                LNW      TNW
Jan 2018 - 846K  /  987K
Feb 2018 - 880K  /  1.02M
Mar 2018 -  859K /  1.00M
Apr 2018 -  855K /  996K
May 2018 - 856K /  999K

Well, moving in the right direction at least.  April was an expensive month due to fed + state taxes, LLC renewals, and auto insurance premiums all taking a bite.  Under the circumstances, I guess I'm not unhappy with the tally.

Feels like it's moving slow, but at least it's still moving in the right direction.  We had a lot of travel expenses this months for some trips through the end of the year that limited progress as well.

While I don't report on TNW in this thread, this month we officially hit the two comma club on TNW!  It feels a little anticlimactic but maybe that is because I really don't pay too much attention to TNW as I discount home equity.  The below update is tracking my liquid investments only and looking to close the gap on $1MM this year with a stretch goal to actually reach it if all goes well!

12/01/18   12/01/17   699k12/01/16   531k

We had a nice jump due to a lump sum payment that was received, and over the next two months we will have two more (although not nearly as nice as the one received this past month).  Income has dipped as my wife has taken a leave from work and I am changing jobs with a few weeks off.  Without the lump sum, we would have had a very modest increase over last month.

In a holding pattern this month.  I owed a lot of money on taxes, so my savings went down quite a bit.  But I had the money and still have savings so I'll take it!

Investments still aren't back to where they were in February (almost!) but our home value has rocketed up another 50k this year. And, THAT is why I track them separately and don't consider us to be over 1M until it doesn't included the home equity...we can't move yet anyway.

Same here FireHiker -- our home equity is kind of crazy, so I am sticking around here until liquid assets cross a million . . . I also carve out our 529 plans and don't count those, as they are earmarked for something other than retirement.

The new house appraisal has us up about $9k, but we had a lot of medical bills last month that meant we drained one of the HSAs.  I'm hoping to get reimbursed for some of that.

Still in this race, but only from an investments/cash perspective.

As of close today sitting just over $891K cash/investments

Still hoping to be on track to hit it by EOY, but the market has not been so cooperative. I'm still throwing money at it though.

Joining from the race to 500,000 thread which is based on liquid investments, but will post both since living in Seattle has been good to real estate value lately, but that is more an estimate of what we would get from a sale of our house

Also joining in on this race, but hoping to jump ship soon!

Below is our quarterly net worth (excluding our home equity)

Feb 2017        $880k
May 2017       $919k
Aug 2018        $918k
Nov 2017        $963k (my annual bonus is paid in Sept)
Feb 2018        $979k

May 2018 MTD $993k

Even if the market stays flat from here we should see an increase before EOM, but it’s going to take some luck to find another $7k of savings in less than 3 weeks...
