Congrats, Tough Mother.

For all you youngsters out there, I happened to catch Dave Ramsey's Millionaire hour last week, and they had three of them under age 40. So keep grinding!

12/17  $739,821

Edit: Forgot to mention that this is all either investments or cash.

Hello! I'm new around these parts. I got from $250k->$500k in 17 months. Any bets on how long it'll take me to graduate form this thread? Full disclosure: my net worth includes me + my husband. Teamwork makes the journey shorter and the work easier :)

cash+rental equity       add primary residence equity
1/2016      $507K                              $627K
1/2017      $625K                              $797K

We just hit $500k in cash and investments, so I thought I'd make an update in celebration. And I'm going to go ahead and temp fate by prognosticating our NW out to the end of the month. Year-over-year, our NW is up $190k, or about 50%. Who knows what next year will bring, but my goal is to increase our savings rate to at least 60%.

12/2017 Update - We hit a big milestone this quarter - over $500K in investments!
Current totals - $719K; $194K in home equity, $5K in cash, remainder in investments

9/2017 Update - $670K; $187K in home equity, $10K in cash, remainder in investments

Somewhat embarrassingly, I didn't starting keeping close tabs on my net worth until finding MMM this year. Thankfully, I didn't muck it up too bad up to this point, but I'm hoping to do even better now that I know better! So, let's start here...

6/2017 - $630K; ~$180K in home equity, ~$10K in cash, remainder in investments

Congrats! We just hit the same milestone! Our savings rate was ~50% this year, and we're shooting for 60% next year as well. Here's to 2018 treating us well...

Thanks! And congrats to you as well. Our 2017 savings rate was also about 50%. As we knock out more of our home repairs, I'm hoping we can get to 70% by 2019.

Nice.  Good work and keep it up!  Are you close to your RE goal?  At your accumulation rate, you can't have too long to wait.

Thank you, and yes, FI is LNW at 1.2MM (goal is by Oct 2018), so barring a total market meltdown, we should hit it. As far as RE, probably will be a little longer, currently in the 2019 thread, but thinking we'll go maybe 2020 - 2021ish depending on whether I can still stand the work.

I've been so close to closing the $1M NW milestone for so long now. Well last night I remembered that my HealthEquity account is not in MINT because of how it authenticates. I have over $20K in that account so I actually hit my milestone a while ago and didn't even realize it. The next goal is $1M in invested assets and cash which should happen in about a year.

Final posting of the year!

+$166k this year! Aiming, for just under 100k in any given year of savings. Though, I am really only tracking worth gains, not savings directly. (So it includes gains/losses in the market) Given 0 month(s) left, and (-66k) more to go, I hit this goal!

OTHER THOUGHTS (Year reflections)---

This year I spent a good deal of time paying down debt on my UN-MMM car. Yet, it was still an amazing year, jumping from mid-300k to mid-500k I made a whopping 45% gain. Of course, the market was a large factor in this, perhaps even half of my gains.

Which brings me to another thing, this is really the first year I even cared about what the market was doing. While I never worried about it, I do remember making a post in FEB in the "500kNW by 2018" thread saying how, even if my savings rate was amazing, I simply wouldn't make enough to cross 500k by year end. Yet I hit it in OCT.

While my income is high, it is humbling to know that the market is really in control here, I will have less and less of an ability to really steer the ship as the years go on. I had the ability to affect maybe 25-35% of my portfolio out of wages this year, which could be used to makeup for crashes or whatnot. Next year, that will drop to 15-20% and in the next 3-5 years, I may work an entire year to only play in the top 5-10% of my portfolio.

Interesting none the less. Good job everyone and happy new year!

2017 was a good year

                 INV    /  NW
Jan 2017 - 714K  /  825K
Jan 2018 - 846K  /  987K

2017 savings rate  48%  (a pleasant surprise when I calculated this)

My NW is at $662K.  Not sure I will ever hit $1M, but it's nice to think about!  I'm aiming for $800K when I retire in June 2018.

Update:

12/27/16:  $662,000
4/28/17:   $709,418
7/31/17:   $745,282
9/2/17:    $758,290
11/17/17:  $803,225
12/17/17:  $827,280

$800k way ahead of schedule, nice!

Yep!  :)

And I'm closing out the year at $828,383.  Maaaayyybbbeee reaching the double comma next year??  That would be fun.  :)

We did it!  Reached the magic number.  Onto the next challenge: The race to two million.

We certainly employed the slow and steady approach.  I graduated and started working in 2005.  Got married and bought a house in 2006.   Have moved twice since then as jobs sent us cross-country.  Took a combined year off for maternity leaves and neither my husband nor I had ever made more than $100K.   We are the poster family for the millionaire next door: used cars and stealth wealth.

I expected to reach this milestone next year, but a rising stock market giveth and can easily taketh away.

Happy New Year, MMMers!

Slightly slower savings month than it could have been. Due to a relative's unemployment, I cut back on a bit of the discretionary saving this month to be able to pay bills for others, but still maxed my Roth and 401k. The good news is: a job has been found! It's a 3 month temp contract, but better than nothing . . . should bring in paychecks in Feb, Mar, Apr next year, and could lead to a long term job. All of this is a testament to how powerful it is to be in a secure financial position; it allows flexibility to pitch in and really help others when they need it.

Numbers for end of month:
Month Year: Investments
June 2017: 504K
July 2017: 523K
Decided to add in home equity and give net worth as second number:
Aug 2017: 533K / 666K
Sep 2017: 539K / 679K
Oct 2017: 551K / 698K
Nov 2017: 561K / 711K
Dec 2017: 569K / 724K

So, for the year my investments are up $118K, which is more than I earn in my day job. It seems unreal.

Happy new year everyone!

In the spirit of the new year, I thought I'd change up my updates to give me more of a historical snapshot and monitor my year over year increase as well.  Tracking my liquid investments only and looking to close the gap on $1MM this year with a stretch goal to actually reach it if all goes well!

Dec. 2017: $502k

Jan. 2, 2018: $513.7k

After maxing out tax advantaged accounts we're hoping to pour an extra $50k into Vanguard this year. If we up that to $54k then we'll be able to invest $100k in 2018 so that's the goal! Slow and steady climb all the way to $1m.

Skipped a month:

Jan 2018 - $580k
Dec 2017 - $569k
Nov 2017 - $561k
Oct 2017 - $546k
Sep 2017 - $538k
Aug 2017 - $497k

I know my rate of increase isn't spectacular, but I'm pumped we are up $250k since I began tracking in Sep 2016!

Hello all and Happy New Year!,

I am newly graduated from the Race from $250K to $500k thread. We actually hit $500k at the end of November, but I wanted to wait a month before posting here.  You know, make sure the ink was dry on the final transcripts and all that.

Invested assets as of 12-2017: $510,037

Yep, got a long way to go, but looking forward to the trip.

bye-bye Ms. FancyPants
