Checked today, still not a millionaire.

How did you do it?

I got a high paying job right out of college, kept my spending at less than $10K / year, and invested everything else.

More research into 529 plans Get moving on this. If you're already on Boy #2, valuable time's a-wastin'.

Exercise company options and consolidate investments @ Vanguard: Soon as there's a decent recovery. Not sure what's ailing it lately. Can you clarify this please? Recovery from what? What is ailing lately?

Open to suggestions. You might get more in-depth responses if you start a case study. This thread seems to be turning into more of a place to report progress (Not a criticism, just an observation.), as evidenced by the strings of numbers and lack of response to your post.
I did it! I have a journal!

And hell yes, I am still moving confidently in the direction of my dreams...

Checked today, still not a millionaire.

Me either. On Wednesday I got to within $1,500, but my funds went backwards yesterday so I'm now $3,500 short. Once I do hit the number I am going to stop checking the markets!

I return to work at the end of the month after a long sabbatical and I am really hoping to hit the magic $1M before then as it is my FIRE number.

I'm in! Currently at $574 investible assets.

Haven't been adding much lately, but the stock market growth pushed us over $600K. About to really start piling it on this year. Our goal is to get up to $700K before 2018. Good luck all!

Well the market certainly helped out a lot this past year. We ended up at $794K on 1 Jan. Beat our goal by a healthy margin! It really is amazing how the market can supercharge your savings with compound interest. I think it was around $500 that I really saw it take over and begin overwhelming my savings.

Just a few weeks into 2018 and we are up to $819K. I haven't added any of my own savings in yet this year either. Amazing. (I suppose it can be just as amazing going the other way too!)

Congratulations, Herbert!  Well done.
Thanks for the encouragement, Trifele.  I'm going to take your advice and concentrate on $800k liquid, rather than $1m, which seems so far away right now!

At close of trading today I edged over the line with a LNW of AU$1,002,455!

I have been updating my spreadsheet pretty much every day this year waiting for this. Now that I have made it I can go back to updating only at the end of the month.

As I was sitting at the computer, I went to pay a bill online and spent a few minutes working out whether it was worth the $1.60 surcharge to pay by credit card or use a savings account and forgo the puny interest. Old habits die hard!

I'm just back from the shops with a nice bottle of wine for dinner (oops the new years resolution!) and bacon and eggs for breakfast in the morning. Back to normal after those wild celebrations are over.

12/17/17  $739,821
01/16/18  $774,717

That jump seems crazy to me.

Estimates of NW over the years with more concrete values currently
2011: $40k  Real estate sucked (I'm a realtor and own rentals), income was low and equity was non existent.  Tough times!
2012: $55k
2013: $75k
2014: $160k  Being a realtor and also having a large portion of NW in real estate helped income and value go up drastically. (income $155k) plus asset appreciation
2015: $295k  (income $210k) plus asset appreciation
2016: $505k (income $242k) plus asset appreciation
Started using Mint for tracking in 2017
2017: March $515
         April $500 spent money... :(
         May $521
         June $573
         July $588
         Aug $605k
         Sep $647k
         Oct $650k
         Dec $684K
2018
         Jan $725k

Dec 2014: 410,781
Dec 2015: 449,701
Dec 2016: 517,871
Dec 2017: 650,444
01/20/2018:  679,426

started to get serious about investing around 2007, before that it was mostly in CD's.  It took a long time to get to the first 500k, hopefully the 2nd half will come much quicker.

Average about 35k to 40k of contribution per year, the rest is from Mr. market.
