Race from 500k to 1M!

Despite adding to the stash and no big expenditures, my number is back to what it was in May. I know it's normal but still a bit discouraging. Really trying not to look so often. I hope to hit 1M by July after front-loading retirement accounts next year. We shall see.

Definitely a very natural feeling. I try and keep in mind that corporate earnings are still doing great - the whole selloff is a decrease in valuations/multiples, so each new dollar you throw in is buying more earnings than a dollar you put in near the peak.

My portfolio took a wallop this past month too. The Mad Fientist Lab shifted me from 3 years 10 months to FI to 4 years 4 months to FI.  It's all good - some future good month will have the opposite effect.

It looked much worse than this a couple days ago until my second paycheck hit. I guess saving $20k and your net worth still dropping $10k is a pretty rough month no matter how you slice it. Making great progress on the mortgage though!

July 2023 was best month end for both, but the accounts to which I've been continuing to contribute are off highwater by $2661 and the untouched account is off by $12202.  Proof my continued contributions are worth something even if it feels like treading water vs 2019-2021.

Edit to add - plotting a graph shows the inherited and original accounts moving in tandem with the market movements, but also clearly shows a widening gap between the line for the accounts with contributions being added and the legacy account which is market changes only.
