Sept. 2018   $252,544.08
Nov.  2018   $248,197.15
Dec.  2018   $256,394.61
Jan.  2019   $252,481.67
Feb.  2019   $287,793.45
Mar.  2019   $304,683.46
April  2019   $311,927.67
May 2019  $320,971.09

My speculation in late March about what our May number would be below! I'd say we killed it, although the home improvement has been pushed to this coming month, and should be reflected in my June numbers.

I'm not sure how our great our May 1st number will be, between vacation spending (eating/shopping, as the big stuff is already paid for), some medical expenses, and a home improvement, but my hope is that we at least don't go backward (I don't think we will).

   Date (2019)       Liquid NW            Comments
   Jan 1       $212,860
   Feb 1       $230,743
   Mar 1       $244,321
   Apr 1       $252,750
   May 1       $263,658           (+10,908)

Yay for Market Gains, it will be a slow month for May but still project decent savings leading into a huge June (this will be a bonus RRSP contribution of my full amount).

I don't count my house equity, so this is just investments minus loans (I invest instead of paying off my low interest loans).

Tracking liquid net worth only: Cash/Savings/Investments

Feb 1, 2016 - $90k
Apr 1, 2016 - $100k
Jan 1, 2017 - $177k
(Took 7 month sabbatical between Jan 1st 2017 and December 1st 2017)
Dec 1, 2017 - $187k
Jan 1, 2018 - $196k
Feb 1, 2018 - $214,462
Mar 1, 2018 - $225,651
Apr 1, 2018 - $238,764
May 1, 2018 - $251,725
June 1, 2018 - $265,145
July 1, 2018 - $272,423
Aug 1, 2018 - $277,896
Sep 1, 2018 - $298,543
Oct 1, 2018 - $296,603
Nov 1, 2018 - $288,618
Dec 1, 2018 - $304,127
Jan 1, 2019 - $294,621
Feb 1, 2019 - $326,081
Mar 1, 2019 - $354,771
Apr 1, 2019 - $384,308
May 1, 2019 - $407,770

Up a bit over $23,000 this month. A rough look at the numbers tells me this is about $9000 in market gains, but as the rest of my expenses roll in through the end of April I’ll have a better idea of exactly how much was actual savings. I know our spending sucked majorly, but I’m ok with that. Some was unexpected, other was just some things which I feel were genuinely worth the extra spending.

Predicted dates for my $500k savings goal are falling back faster and faster. In January this year my goal was December, then I was thinking October, now it’s looking like September. Of course, this is completely dependent on market performance.

I’d like to do something for myself and my wife when we hit $500k. We already spend a pretty excessive amount so I certainly don’t feel like I’m going without, but I do feel like that will be a very big milestone for us, especially in the amount of time it took us to hit it.

Our 20 year old Camry is getting up there, but until it really requires significantly more $$ in repairs, I have a hard time letting it go. We also have a paid off 2017 4Runner, so that’s nice for my wife’s minimal driving and when we do stuff on weekends.

We planned to take another several month sabbatical last fall, but I ended up rolling straight from one contract job to the next, so that went out the door. Now I won’t be able to take a long sabbatical for what looks like at least a couple years. This position is paying me so well that I couldn’t comprehend giving it up for a sabbatical again.. Just keep telling myself, at saving close to $15k/mo it’s bringing me way closer to FIRE than the opportunity cost of taking the time off. Maybe treating ourselves to a nice vacation for a week or two would be the best option.

NW update:
Jan. 2017   $42,000

...

Feb. 2019   $242,032
Mar. 2019   $258,467
Apr. 2019   $271,294
May 2019   $281,760

Getting close to a couple potential inflection points on the NW graph: (1) done with PMI this fall; (2) about $500/month in student loan payments going away this year and next. That should boost our monthly savings rate by about $650. Projecting graduation from this thread by roughly mid-2021? Given where we were in 2017 and before, it's almost impossible to believe!

October: 253,182 (joined thread)
November 1: 246,371 (oops, can't trust that market)
December 1: 251,180

January 1: 241,349
February 1: 260,251
March 1: 261,594
April 1: 278,541
May 1: 301,428 (liking the look of that round number! It may not last, though, I just got paid for a round of projects and it will be a few months before the next paycheck, and this number reflects a buffer fund kept in money market)

Feb 1 2019: $397,087.41

Apr 1 2019: $440,342.71
May 1 2019: $456,285.80

Pretty good! Paid like $8k in taxes at the beginning of April, so the fact that I'm still up $16k despite that is pretty encouraging.

Marching steadily towards $350k, $400k, and hopefully not too far in the distant future, $500k! It is possible to hit that $500k mark sometime mid-late 2021! Incredible.

The neat part is this does not include my wife's partial pension, nor mine. We are both teachers and, assuming careers around 20ish years, will receive around 40% of our average five highest years of salary. Crazy to think of that in addition to our NW number cruising past $1mil in a decade or so.

A lot has happened in the last year. 1 I got a new job in Jan 2018 and 2. I no longer have time - for anything. We have have jumped almost $200000 but at a cost which I question daily. One reason I jump so quickly is I no longer have a mortgage - for me a great decision! Another - I conservatively added $50 000 to out property value. Still refuse to believe Zestimate. The other is a $5000 per month increase. The downside - I work all hours and live to work Going to hold on until the end of the year if I can. If I had not been on this community I would still be trying to figure it out - thank-you all. I will see you on the next thread.

1 January 2018   - $295,835.
1 April 2018        - $305,001.
1 May 2018        - $316,277.
1 June 2018        - $332,814.
1 July 2018 (ish)  - $330,715.
1 August 2018     - $346,023.
30 August 2018    - $362,001.
1 October            - $365,638.
1 November         - $341,694.

Not a good month at all.. oh well, I've got quite a few months left before I need it anyway lol.

1 May 2019           - $372,682

Not where I would have liked to be relative to last October, but when I take into account ~$10k in unplanned spending to help out family over the winter, and the returns of the end of last year, I'm pretty happy with where I'm at right now.

I'm excited to finally jump on this bandwagon. My numbers are invested assets only:
May 2018- $101k
-------
March 2019- $249k
April 2019- $267

Our jump from $100k to $250k took less than a year (thanks to my company moving us across the country and being able to cash out on a major increase in our house's equity). I'm predicting we'll hit $500k late 2021-mid 2022. This depends solely on my $75k salary. Of course, that could change a lot depending on what my wife ends up doing for work when she starts back up this year after a 5 year break to stay at home with the kids.

Central east coast. Some listings in my area are offering 2% price cut in the past month and prices have drop around 5% in the last 2-3 months. First time I've seen price cut in the last 6-7 years.

Nearly flat this month, thanks to a little extra AirBnB and teaching income. June is a BIG pay month for me, and I'm planning to drop $20k of new money into market, so I was fine seeing stocks drop a little this month.

01/01/19 - $351k
01/31/19 - $381k
02/28/19 - $399k
03/29/19 - $406k
04/30/19 - $426k
05/30/19 - $423k

Actually happy to see the market decline this month. I'd take a flat market for the next few years while we direct this firehose of cash, then hopefully downshift.

I was in route to break the $400Ks but Trump twitted a couple of times about tariffs and market went down.  Can't believe how sensitive some amateur investors are about this stupid twitts, a friend is trying to convince me to move all the money to cryptocurrenty which is not closely tied to twitts.  Thoughts?
Lost of $15K but at least gain in stocks!

@bigote2032 , no offense, but you're slamming "amateur investors" while asking us for thoughts about moving your investments to crypto because of Trump's tweets?

I feel like I've been stuck in the 400's for a long time. But I think it's my mind playing tricks on me. The psychology can be somewhat bizarre when you're adding money yet going nowhere in terms of net worth. Last year I was +0%, but only worked half the year. But then when I look from the beginning of the year I have made progress of +15% net worth. I only need another +8% or so to finally get out of here!

Tracking dividend payments are nice since they tend to fluctuate much less, but only tell a small piece of the story.

I've noticed this sort of plateauing with our net worth as well. We'll have months where it feels like we made no progress then all of a sudden we'll be way up. We went seven months in 2015-2016 with only a 5% increase in net worth. Then the next seven months were +35%.

Offense not taken.  I was joking.  My dad, my sister and my cousins are "amateur investors" in the sense that they sell their stock every time they see something in the paper that scares them.  I have a friend that is crypto addicted, he has lost a lot of money in it but keeps investing in it.  I have never invested in crypto and probably never will invest a penny in it based on experiences from folks in the FIRE community.  The fact that the stock market success/failure has a strong dependency on one single man that can make it crash with a twitt is extremely frustrating to me.  My point is that I wish there was a more reliable vehicle for us to invest that is not so sensitive to news and a few people's actions.  Crypto has benefits in this regard but most of us know where the pitfalls are that keeps us from investing in it.  Anyway, let's keep collecting money!

Well, we paid off our last vehicle loan, we dumped about $2300 into retirement accounts, and we still went backwards big time because of market. The Miller clan will shake it off and keep plowing ahead.

There are much safer vehicles but they don't yield as much.

I finally got the back pay for my move, it was over $4.2k and I also did a little travel for work that got me a little extra this month too, so savings wise it was a good month.  Hopefully this market downturn is the start of a big sale, I could use some cheap stocks!  Only 90.5k until graduation!!!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
