@Nick_Miller and @SpareChange - Thanks for the kind words.  I will say this - if it'd happened before I found MMM it would have completely devastated me financially.  But after a bit of reflection, I realize I am left with a great home I get to live in, that's worth $720k and will keep going up in value as I live in a "hot" area in Denver.  And, because of the frugal lessons I've learned here and implemented in my life, I'll still be able to max out my 401k contributions.  With employee match, that's $1800 per month or $21k per year.  So all is not lost.  But this all came out of left field and was a real sucker-punch to me emotionally (and financially).  Whatever, pick up the pieces and move on.  I do know this - I'll never even consider getting into another relationship with someone that doesn't make at least somewhat close to me in income.  I figured it up and this first divorce will cost me about half a million dollars when all is said and done.  That's a very expensive mistake that I do not want to repeat.

Anyway, hope to re-join this thread in a few years.  Go market returns!

Same update from last month - hello, stock market volatility. Still waiting on some back pay from January to hit my accounts, including TSP contributions. My goal for the end of 2019 is $350k.

Been chugging along in the 100K-250K thinking these are all just retirement accounts.

So here I am.  A newbie that is not a newbie.

                    Retirement  +  Non-Retirement Non-College   +  Property, Net  +  Car        =   Net Worth
20190101:      $  150.4                         $   54.4                        $   236.2        $20.0           $   461.0

                    Retirement  +  Non-Retirement Non-College   +  Property, Net  +  Car        =   Net Worth

8/31/18:   $276,905
9/29/18:   $285,986

11/30/18: $281,461
12/31/18: $261,809

January was the longest month ever... maybe that helps explain the big big bump, more time to save!

2019
January 1 -        356,542
February 1 -       383,348

A good month that I don't think will be repeated again soon and I'm still waiting on almost 4k money owed to me from my recent move.  Most of the gains were from the market because my BAH for my new location is much lower and I do not get COLA here, so my salary is effectively lowered by around 30k.

04/30/17   $125,786   $67,858   -$106,720   <---- Discovered MMM / LBYM

01/31/19   $311,711   $251,061   -$7,148   <---- 250k Invested

Made some substantial lifestyle changes and have had a great almost two years financially. To have 1/4 million in investments would have seemed insane just a few years back.

Setting a goal date of 7/1/2020 for 500k invested and am telling myself I can then get a new (to me) vehicle to replace my beater truck. But we shall see, a part of me dreams of being a millionaire with a beater truck :-)

Mar-18   $252,633.43

Aug-18 $291293 - INV $ 376293 - NW ---> Writing off 51k, we are spending on our family home for mom and dad, Property is mine, but highly illiquid for foreseeable future. Maybe next 40 years.
Sep-18 $292395 - INV $377395 - NW---> Lots of unexpected expenses this month. My job is also not on firm ground. Bad new manager situation. Starting new job search.Anyone have job for me :)
Oct-18  $271500 - INV $357200 - NW ---> Yay volatility
Nov-18 $279200 - INV $365200 - NW ---> Big spending month, over $10000 unexpected spending on Medical expenses, travel reservations, hotels, electronics, shopping deals and gifts. Also got new job, lateral move.
Dec-18 $257500 - INV $344000 - NW ---> Hope this market remains low or flat for next couple of months so I can plough more money in. Happy new year you all! It is interesting that the assets like primary home provide so much stability in rough times. If we have a paid off home or enough cash to pay it off safely invested it provides much safety in difficult times.
Jan-18 $290132 - INV $373300 - NV ---> Big bounce back. But I wish it came after Feb. Its likely there will be more opportunities due to various uncertainties in current short term.

June 1 2018:  $256,005.82
July 1 2018:  $259,624.40

Jan 1 2019:  $272,446.08

Feb 1 2019:  $289,664.17
December bonuses, the market coming back up again, and the adjustment I do at the end of each year - I round our expenses up to the nearest dollar, then at the end of the year throw the extra sitting in checking into our savings, which is always a good few hundred dollars.  Fun to always see a jump at the beginning of the year.

Honest question. Missing out on the gains didn't sting enough to stop trying to time the market?

Honest question. Missing out on the gains didn't sting enough to stop trying to time the market?

I'm taking a medium term bear position, so I don't care about short term gain.  Now, if market continues to rise past my time frame for re-entry, then yes that would sting. Plus, the blatant manipulation of the market that I saw this last month was too worrying,  enough for me to be glad that I was out of it,  gain or no gain.

Alright, I think I've spent enough time creeping in the background that I have to officially join!

Date          NW
Dec-16    $243k
Jan-17    $252k
Feb-17    $270k
Mar-17    $273k
Apr-17    $295k
May-17    $300k
Jun-17    $308k
Jul-17    $316k
Aug-17    $322k

Current projections put us at 500k ~Mar 2019 which will mean it will be a total of 28 months to get from 250k-500k.

Time for an update - 7.5 months is an acceptable update interval right?

Sept-17     $340k
Oct-17      $357k
Nov-17     $366k
Dec-17     $388k
Jan-18      $398k
Feb-18     $401k
Mar-18     $403k
Apr-18     $422k

So although it's a weird interval it's almost exactly 100k since the last update.

Previous estimate for 500k was March 2019 but it looks like that has now pulled back slightly to Nov/Dec 2018, yay! I wouldn't bank on it yet though as income has dropped in the last 3 months with a loss of guaranteed overtime.

And congrats Rife on being o-so-close!

Anddddd we're there! After the same hit everyone else took on stocks in September we have bounced back and cleared the $500,000 in January. From the last update the numbers look like:

May-18    $433k
Jun-18     $445k
Jul-18      $453k
Aug-18    $459k
Sept-18   $476k
Oct-18     $468k
Nov-18    $481k
Dec-18    $479k
Jan-19     $501k

I wanted to wait until Feb to post to ensure we were firmly into the 500's and it wouldn't fluctuate back and forth across the line.

Overall we were a couple months ahead of schedule and took 25 months therefore averaging $10,000 per month which I am ecstatic about and never thought I could hit a savings rate like that. Over the last 25 months we have had a 68% savings rate.

Here's to the next $500,000 and good luck to everyone!

Jan-18 $290132 - INV $373300 - NV ---> Big bounce back. But I wish it came after Feb.
I share same sentiment.  Wishing Feb is the bounce back to 26K.

"Time frame for re-entry" -- is that due to hold of transactions by the 401K provider?

Mar-17   $204,673.44
Jun-17   $213,133.82

Dec-17   $231,468.96
Mar-18   $252,633.43
Mar-18   $249550-INV  $381297 - NW ---> fell below 250K, what a rollercoaster this year has been!
Apr-18   $252,693 - INV $385,040 - NW
May-18  $263,950 - INV $396,500 - NW
June-18 $268,500 - INV $401,900 - NW ---> hope markets stay low for a while.
July-18  $279,100 - INV $414,336 - NW
Aug-18 $291293 - INV $ 376293 - NW ---> Writing off 51k, we are spending on our family home for mom and dad, Property is mine, but highly illiquid for foreseeable future. Maybe next 40 years.
Sep-18 $292395 - INV $377395 - NW---> Lots of unexpected expenses this month. My job is also not on firm ground. Bad new manager situation. Starting new job search.Anyone have job for me :)
Oct-18  $271500 - INV $357200 - NW ---> Yay volatility
Jan-19 $290132 - INV $373300 - NW ---> Big bounce back. But I wish it came after Feb. Its likely there will be more opportunities due to various uncertainties in current short term.
Feb-19 $317800 - INV $406000 - NW ---> Big payday of the year helped cross 300k easily.

Congrats @Nick_Miller. I am also in same boat. So excited. I shared numbers with SO, she was amazed. I remember 5 years ago I shared with SO a lofty goal for family to accumulate wealth of 300K and more. She couldn't fathom such numbers. We easily surpassed it. I am very proud of the achievement. Onwards to 500K

Not sure where I'll end up at the end of the year, as while I assume my passive income isn't going to be large, last year proved that I am a terrible predictor of what may come so......   Here is to the race to 500k  *Lifts a glass of Fancy boxed wine in a toast!*

Nice solid first month here. Spending is finally tapering down after purchasing a house last October and DIY remodeling, but still ~3k to spend to finish everything.

Tracking liquid net worth only: Cash/Savings/Investments

Feb 1, 2016 - $90k
Apr 1, 2016 - $100k
Jan 1, 2017 - $177k
(Took 7 month sabbatical between Jan 1st 2017 and December 1st 2017)
Dec 1, 2017 - $187k
Jan 1, 2018 - $196k
Feb 1, 2018 - $214,462
Mar 1, 2018 - $225,651
Apr 1, 2018 - $238,764
May 1, 2018 - $251,725
June 1, 2018 - $265,145
July 1, 2018 - $272,423
Aug 1, 2018 - $277,896
Sep 1, 2018 - $298,543
Oct 1, 2018 - $296,603
Nov 1, 2018 - $288,618
Dec 1, 2018 - $304,127
Jan 1, 2019 - $294,621
Feb 1, 2019 - $326,081
Mar 1, 2019 - $354,771
Apr 1, 2019 - $384,308

Good jump of about $30k this month. It was a 3 paycheck month, so my direct income savings was around $25k. The rest was small market growth. Seeing that I’m up almost $90k since Jan 1st is also pretty awesome. About $58k of that was savings, the rest was recovering market growth from last years drop.

Onward and Upward!

Haha - I hope you jump past me a bit, as I have some major expenses coming up. My preliminary tax run shows me owing ~$2500 (sold a house last year), and I found out yesterday that both of the cats I adopted a few months ago have advanced gum disease. Poor girls :(  They're on antibiotics now and going in for blood work in an hour - hoping for a quick (and not horrifically expensive) recovery!

Hello, everyone!  After recovering from the market downturn in late 2018, I can finally join you all on the way to half a mill.

NW // Inv Assets

3/1/19 - $268,584 // $154,100

Hi! Welcome, and come on in!

Up $11,693 to $312,211. 430b match for 2018 dropped in. I talked to my boss about the possibility of going PT, if and when that time comes. She was pretty open to it and whatever schedule we could make work. Sweet.

@achvfi, yes my wife sorta blinked and processed it for a minute and was like "cool!" But then again she responds like that to much of what I say and do.

@stimepy, @JLee, @hudsoncat, It looks like we're all in similar places. I would appreciate a little trash talking over the next few months (and maybe years) in this thread. A little trash talking is classy, much like the boxed wine and buying real Froot Loops instead of the generic Fruit Spins or Tootie Fruities.

**Trash talk... trash talk... hmmm...**

"Yo 'stache is so fat..." Wait, that's actually turning into a compliment. I'm clearly not good a trash talk. I'll work on my game.

I'm tracking investments only. Based on past savings, I expect it will be sometime in the 2021 to cross the finish line assuming no market tanking. I'm going to state a stretch goal to hit $500K by the end of 2020. I'm going to need some market help and maybe a pay raise or two (hahahahaha... unlikely. Sigh).
