It sure makes a difference not having a house payment (and rent) to the savings amount, I'm looking forward to seeing these numbers multiply!
I was doing the rent + mortgage thing for six months.  Sucks.  Glad its over for both of us.

I just started playing that game..really hoping the house sells quickly!

Question: should I be tracking my net worth or money invested, in my case the difference is big: 610k vs 267k. Also when you calculate net worth (assets) do you calculate in things like car or furniture which might be worth something, but not very liquid and difficult to estimate.

Also for those of you who are entrepreneurs with small companies, do you count in the company value even when its not publicly traded and hard or impossible to actually sell?

Jan 2017 - £346,854
Feb 2017 - £388,581 (+£41,727)
Mar 2017 - £396,119 (+£7,538)
Apr 2017 - £401,345 (+£5,226)
May 2017 - £399,619 (-£1,726)
Jun 2017 - £411,132 (+£11,513)
Jul 2017 - £409,299 (-£1,833)
Aug 2017 - £413,486 (+£4,187)
Sep 2017 - £415,586 (+£2,100)
Oct 2017 - £434,692 (+£19,000)
Nov 2017 - £438,434 (+£3,742)
Dec 2017 - £452,034 (+£13,600)

May 2018 - £475,489 (+£21,615)
Jun 2018 - £489,292 (+£13,802)

I was momentarily at £499,212 this month, just a hairs breath away from the magic £500k, but then I had to pay a VAT bill, bought a new iPhone 8 Plus and a couple of nights airbnb for friends wedding, which bought it back down again.

You should be tracking both. Liquid investments for the 4% rule progress and net worth for overall financial picture. If you want to compare yourself to others then net worth is the fairest way (as one could sell their house, start renting, and invest the difference to see a sudden jump in liquid investments).

I personally include our cars as part of our net worth as valued by KBB private party sale (minus outstanding loan balance, as applicable). If your car(s) are paid off and not worth a lot (say ~$5k or so) then I wouldn't recommend bothering tracking them as part of net worth. I don't track anything else in our household, too much hassle and not particularly relevant.

Hello folks, I am joining this effort to make it to 500K.

I am not tracking net worth here since I am only considering my investments for FIRE.  If I consider my condo, my net worth would be more than a million but I am not selling the place for the next 20 years.

Here are the numbers:

11/30/2017   $228,503.37
12/31/2017   $237,592.34
1/31/2018       $254,582.33
2/28/2018       $257,732.67
3/31/2018       $265,481.54
4/30/2018       $269,342.61
5/31/2018       $277,950.05

Excited to be joining this thread.  Tracking only invested assets.
3/30/2018: $251,491

Graduated the last thread in just under 2 years, hoping to do this one in closer to 1.5 years.

May 2018: 257,365. Not bad considering the state of the market.
June 1: $266,587

I calculate home equity + investments + cash.  I am selling my house, so soon it'll all be investments/cash.

I stopped counting my cars a year or two ago. I've also stopped counting car loans, which feels wrong but given that I'm not counting cars and I'm not upside down in anything, I figure it's a wash for my calculation purposes.

why not try doing 250 to 500 in quicker time than you did 100 to 250?

Last post in 100-250k here: http://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/throw-down-the-gauntlet/race-from-100-to-250k/msg1440605/#msg1440605

Took me 26 months to go from 100-250, so that would require me to hit 500k on or before April 30th 2019.  Projection shows hitting it ~Jan 2021 at the current rate.  Slow and steady :)

So I've had some busy months and haven't been diligently tracking net worth, but had some time to figure it up this evening:
Feb-17   $251,409.30
Oct-17   $318,536.66

Rough projection for 500k is now Feb 2020! (assuming 7% market returns and the RE investments continue).  Given that the estimate moved up nearly year, I'd say that if things continue to go better than expected, then April 2019 is possible, but at the same time I don't want to be too optimistic...

Feb-17   $251,409.30
Oct-17   $318,536.66
Jan-18   $361,374.09
Mar-18  $369,142.20
Jun-18   $400,461.03

Updated my mortgage balance in Mint and just crossed over the $400k mark!  Optimistically looking towards April 2019 :)

If I look at cash and securities only (not counting rental equity or primary residence equity) I belong on this thread

1/2016  $137K
1/2017  $154K
9/2017  $244K  (cash out refinance of primary residence in June)

conservative projections:
12/2018  $300K
12/2020  $400K
 6/2022   $500K

remodeling our house- so a decrease- that's why we did the cash-out refi in June 2017.

3/2018   $208K  includes 0% credit card debt that will be paid off with HELOC when 0% rate expires in a few months.   Still expecting $300K by the end of 2018

6/2018  $213K    but without 0% CC balance and including pension balance, $328K.

0% CC balance is increasing even though some is transferred to HELOC already. Still managed to save a little.

I hit two round numbers recently...

504k - counting home value/mortgage (first time over 500)
300k - without the house or mortgage.

Either way its nice because I am not even actively tracking my wife's 401k.

Feels good to hit some milestones!

Hello folks, I am joining this effort to make it to 500K.

I am not tracking net worth here since I am only considering my investments for FIRE.  If I consider my condo, my net worth would be more than a million but I am not selling the place for the next 20 years.

Here are the numbers:

11/30/2017   $228,503.37
12/31/2017   $237,592.34
1/31/2018       $254,582.33
2/28/2018       $257,732.67
3/31/2018       $265,481.54
4/30/2018       $269,342.61
5/31/2018       $277,950.05

6/30/2018  $285,254.10

A bit disappointed, added $9K this month but market did not help for a gain of $7K.  But hey, it's still positive!

2/17 - 167,752
3/17 - 177,448
4/17 - 183,917
5/17 - 189,025
6/17 - 195,189
7/17 - 202,048
8/17 - 211,263
9/17 - 215,880
10/17 - 222,924
11/17 - 230,962
12/17 - 238,389
1/18 - 247,829
2/18 - 263,000
3/18 - 254,401
5/18 - 267,000
6/18 - 273,062
7/18 - 278,308

Market and crypto drop lately brought me down a bunch in the last week despite it being a 3 paycheck month plus quarterly dividends.  I just got a new job which I'll be moving to Portland for in a couple weeks, so it'll be a single paycheck month then plus moving costs, but the salary is a huge bump in pay.  I'll also go from splitting very cheap rent in Denver to being a single payer on a more expensive apartment, so that'll impact it a bit, but the pay bump more than makes up for it.  So lots of changes!

We cracked the $300k mark! Progress is slower than I would want but still positive!

July 1: $273,073
Not as much growth as hoped, but anything positive is good!

Q2 has ended and the numbers are in.

End Of
2013-Q4:                $41,032
2014-Q4:                $106,801          (+65,769)
2015-Q4:                $197,262          (+90,461)
2016-Q4:                $276,361          (+79,099)
2017-Q4:                $368,051          (+91,690)
2018-Q1:                $375,665          (+7,614)
2018-Q1:                $402,540          (+26,875)

Since last Q End:      $402,540          (+00,000)

Expecting things to slow down a lot on the contributions side. 2015-2017 we were probably adding 60-70k via contributions per year.  Expecting that to go down to around 25-30k.  Hoping we can somehow sneak 40-50k in per year but that would be a major stretch goal.

Got to love moving to an HCOL area.

Double Income, No Kids. I'm in Sales and so bonuses thrown in every annual/quarter, I was lucky with a big one this year that won't be repeated - in addition wife and I get 12.5% super (401k) contributions from our employers, and those go in pre-tax. We are relatively frugal and have inexpensive hobbies while my colleagues all have oversized houses and 2 European cars.

We should crack 500k this month.

Oh, it's probably also worth mentioning that my numbers are in Aussie Dollars. So multiply it by 0.75 to get to USD.

The equity loan has dropped our net worth but not by as much as I expected. Once the building is completed (and we pay the last portion to the builder) I will bump up the value of the property and house for the first time since we purchased years ago. Since we don't plan to sell I just like to keep the value very conservative. Paying someone to build this has been the best money we spent and we love every aspect of the building and cannot wait to start using it.

June 1, 2018 - $265,145

July 1, 2018 - $272,423

Lot going on this month and the next few. I had 10 days off work to move cross country with about 3000 miles of drive time. Expenses from moving, lost wages, etc. Started a new contract job. Much higher rate but lower hours. Better quality life but less savings. I’m fine when it means working 45vs75 hrs each week.

Also - I bought a non-mustachian, un-needed, motorcycle this past weekend. I’ve worked 700+ hrs of overtime the last 7 months, and won’t be having a good chunk of time off for the next 2 years, so I’m fine with the splurging in the mean time.

That being said - my net worth increase in June was $7k. The motorcycle purchase will come through in July and as such, I’ll probably break even in net worth increase this month.

My goal is to hit the $500k club mid 2020

I looked hard for one when I started this thread, but couldn't find one.  I copied my numbers out of the old spreadsheet and have continued to track it (privately).
