I hit $500k this month.
Thanks to excellent gains, I got there a couple years sooner than I had expected.

Nice job @The Tester, @Edwards  and @Fire2025! See you all on the next thread.
It's fun to see how much faster things move once over $500K

Tiny contribution this month on my now part-time income, but the market kept chugging along for me.

I realized that I don't have an target date for the 500K, though.  (Had just been focused on getting to 300K by 2025 due to a planned move.) I'll have to think about that...

Congratulations @Vashy,@InvincibleChutzpah, @The Tester, @oneday, and @Edwards!  (You too, @ontheheel)!

Nice work to everyone else that made it to $500k.

And for the several people who posted recently who haven't hit the number yet, I can see from your progression numbers that you'll easily outpace me in a short while! Congrats.

November 25, 2020 = $251,266.83
May 12, 2021 = $324,048.85
September 29,2021 = $359,662.74

We are coming up to our 3 year anniversary with the FIRE movement and we have grown our nest egg over $300K since then. Things have really been snowballing as well, even with the rollercoaster in the markets lately.

Hamburgers are on sale! We saved an awful lot this month to end up back where we started. Still, I'd rather see the market go down than up...

... End of:
2015 - 5800 - Found MMM

2016 - 56,145

2017 - 104,485

2018 - 134,864

2019 - 174,932

2020 - 220,850

July 2021 - 274,240

August 2021 - 297,707

September 2021 - 353,542

This is a little deceiving because I did a cash out refi and this is my investments not my net worth.  But I was able to buy into the down market with my ReFi, so woohoo.  Everything was on sale!!!

Welcome @jmecklenborg @LateStarter1 @lexde

Congrats @The Tester @Edwards

@Psyche thanks. You can congratulate me again in a few months when it sticks :)

@grantmeaname I am in the same place as 2 months ago. The market is just like that right now.

Net worth consists of equity portfolio, two rental properties, and cash (checking/savings). Liabilities are month-to-month credit card (PIF every month), two mortgages on rental properties, and what’s left of my wife’s student loans.

February $95k
March $95k
April $98
May $95
June $104
July $106
August $115
September $118
October $134
November $136
December $143

2020
January $153 (Got back on YNAB after a few years off - this, along with market tailwinds made 2020 an amazing year)
February $159
March $152 (Market crash and start of recovery)
April $172
May $187
June $187 (Bought a 2012 Toyota Sienna for $8,200)
July $202
August $206
September $207
October $215
November $233
December $234

2021
January $241
February $246
March $255
April $267
May $290
June $303
July $325
August $333

September 328k

Cash position is up, but markets are down over the past month. I recently learned that September is statistically the worst month of the year for the stock market. October is the most volatile.

The market is marketing. All our excess funds are going to paying off a HELOC so our only gains are from max contributions to tax-advantaged space which...is not enough.

Can't be mad at a market when it goes back to the level it was at *checks notes* 3 months ago haha. I had some sizeable medical and auto bills come up this month, so I saved a lot less than usual.

Welcome LateStarter1.  I feel the same way and I hope to graduate this thread, it will likely be two years.  I followed the advice I learned as a youngster which was save 10% of my pay.  Wish MMM was around 25 years ago.  I followed the advice I was given.  Either way, I will get there.  Good luck to you and your journey in this thread!

My stats:

Jul2019 — $101953         Jul2021 — $257785
Aug2019 — $106277       Aug2021 — $261380 (TSP) / $146250 (spouses)
Sep2019 — $111050       Sep2021 — $257334 (TSP) /  (removed spouse’s)
Oct2019 — $114791
Nov2019 — $120215
Dec2019 — $122692
Jan2020 — $120521
Feb2020 — $123625
Mar2020 — $124248
Apr2020 — $133240
May2020 — $145475
Jun2020 — $143581
Jul2020 — $151652
Aug2020 — $155546
Sep2020 — $149687
Oct2020 — $161159
Nov2020 — $182840
Dec2020 — $197090
Jan2021 — $197402

Mar2021 — $229977
Apr2021 — $241104
May2021 — $249275
Jun2021 — $252084

Numbers updated thru the last day of the month.  I was going to start adding my spouses numbers from her defined contribution, but will really only count the TSP numbers towards the overall goal).  I quit adding them again, as I can’t see numbers on a certain date unless I log in by a computer.   I’m too lazy for that.
I’m excited to see how the next few months treat my accounts.   Hoping for a great close out for the year. I had a small downturn in September, but already back up to normal amounts in October.

Original goal this year was to hit $230k for the TSP account and $130k for the spouses. Then it was $250k.  At this point; I’m obviously content with the numbers; but I do have a new goal of $275k to round off the year. Closing out at $150k for my spouses account would be nice as well.  Keeping my fingers crossed!

Well, I can't quite believe it but we've done it! £518,318.15 as of April this year (I can only reliably track per tax year because we only get pension statements once a year). I think the journey to 1 million will be a long slog but I'm excited to be halfway there! See you all on the other side :D

For reference our numbers for the last few years (since I started tracking):

2016: £254,888.16
2017: £307,894.34
2018: £355,310.3
2019: £411,002.36
2020: £471,458.24
2021: £518,318.15

Well, I can't quite believe it but we've done it! £518,318.15 as of April this year (I can only reliably track per tax year because we only get pension statements once a year). I think the journey to 1 million will be a long slog but I'm excited to be halfway there! See you all on the other side :D

For reference our numbers for the last few years (since I started tracking):

2016: £254,888.16
2017: £307,894.34
2018: £355,310.3
2019: £411,002.36
2020: £471,458.24
2021: £518,318.15

WOW!!!! Congratulations!!!!

May 1 2018:  $250,453.08

July 1 2018:  $259,624.40
August 1 2018:  $268,077.64
September 1 2018:  $275,103.83
October 1 2018:  $279,499.81
November 1 2018:   $273,503.01
December 1 2018:  $278,858.64
Jan 1 2019:  $272,446.08
Feb 1 2019:  $289,664.17
March 1 2019:  $299,054.26
April 1 2019:  $305,610.01
May 1 2019:  $315,936.05
June 1 2019:  $311,464.06
July 1 2019:  $320,434.22
August 1 2019:  $331,407.52
September 1 2019:  $335,874.66
October 1 2019:  $340,976.88
November 1 2019:  $348,058.86
December 1 2019:  $361,978.66

January 1 2020:  $370,526.76  Huge increase year over year, that will now end thanks to buying a farm and paying $20,000 in interest for the next few years.  I'll be in this group for several more years!

Well, it's been a while.  At the end of this month we will cross the $500k mark, so I want to go through and update the months from Jan 2020 to now.  Yes, this post is gigantic, I promise you only have one more month of me!

Feb 1 2020     $337,826.50  net worth went down $30k due to farm buying. LOANS, man.
March 1 2020  $330,092.14
April 1 2020    $312,296.60  apparently the market crashed back at the start of Covid
May 1 2020     $323,766.13
June 1 2020    $301,457.91  more farm loan.  You can see why I wasn't excited to update last year.  The loans (real estate, farm improvement, and line of credit) go in our net worth, but the money in the checking account does not as that would cause major swings and obfuscate actual NW gains.  So this month the LoC got used.
July 1 2020  $309,726.15
Aug 1 2020  $324,402.02
Sep 1 2020  $341,294.59
Oct 1 2020  $342,244.63
Nov 1 2020  $341,219.85
Dec 1 2020  $372,179.87  big market swing up, extra paychecks for both of us.  And finally, after the entire year, back to where we were the prior year.

Back then was hoping now that I had my first crop (apples, as the username says), we could get some money to catch up on some bills and maybe, just maybe, start some real loan paydown.

Jan 1 2021  $392,251.38  a bit of loan paydown
Feb 1 2021  $398,401.40
March 1 2021  $407,295.92
April 1 2021    $409,277.93
May 1 2021  $429,903.83  market swing up
June 1 2021  $438,651.25
July 1 2021   $450,245.82
Aug 1 2021   $459,604.85
Sept 1 2021  $486,565.11  I changed how we were tracking our checking account, which is half the increase here.  Figured the swings in it were no longer notable in calculating NW, I had been slowing integrating it back in fully to the NW number, this month it came fully back.
Oct 1 2021   $482,656.50

This month we are going to pay $59,000 off on our farm improvement loan (it's a $60,000 loan, but you have to go in person to an office to pay off in full, so I'll do that after apple season, which won't be this month).  That will use money from the farm's checking account, which is not included in our NW statement, though the loans are.  So using farm income to pay that loan sort of "magically" improves our net worth, which is nice since all of 2020 those loans, and the interest we paid on them, realllllly put the brakes on net worth gains.

Posting a little early since my expenses and income have been finalized for the month.

This month's gains were still very respectable at +$16,160.29. A lot of uncertainty surrounding life in general, so I'm likely going to just put the majority of this into an instant access savings account until I know what's going on with my health and my job. Having ~15k in savings will give me some peace of mind (it's about 1/3 of my annual living expenses if I'm not cutting corners anywhere) even though investing it all is the smarter decision.
