We did it! We did it! We became a household of half millionaires! Which is like being 0.25 of the way to being each FI, or 0.33 towards being household FI!

Pretty impressive quarter, since we "loaned" MIL $16k as well.

Radagast out!

Hello all! our household hit $250k during March and are excited to start the next leg of our journey! It took 20 months to go from $100-$250k, and current projections show a little over three years to hit the next milestone.

                       2021                2022                2023                2024
January     $227,807---
February$230,079---
March$239,227---
April$251,865---
May---Grad Goal
June---
July---
August---
September---
October---
November---
December---
Great job DadJokes! I remember the heady days of graduating to this race, projecting when I would cross the finish line. Actually no I mostly don't, they are lost in a haze of work and adapting from life in a small town to an apartment in a big city. But I remember that it happened! Good luck in your race!

Hi all!

Making the jump up from the 100K to 250K thread.

I've broken out the numbers into individual and joint (with DW) net worth. We do not own a house (yet), so numbers reflect cash/equivalents and retirement accounts. Our only debt is whatever is currently on our credit cards, which gets paid off each month. Below are our numbers, dating back to when we first joined the last thread. Initially it was my own journey, but at this stage in my marriage it made sense to report the joint numbers which I had already been tracking.

                  Solo NW      Joint NW
4/30/2020 -       101,897        203,198
5/31/2020 -       109,544        218,023
6/30/2020 -       114,288        227,585
7/31/2020 -       117,338        236,196
8/31/2020 -       128,213        251,254
9/30/2020 -       125,543        246,779
10/31/2020 -     130,200        251,727
11/30/2020 -     141,260        266,097
12/31/2020 -     147,153        271,221
1/31/2020 -       155,099       282,090
2/28/2020 -       163,308       285,823
3/31/2020 -  183,745       319,533

Had some nice cash inflows this month (though also some large cash outflows). Investments generally did well.

I'm right there with you! I just hit $440K and have been trending $15-20K a month. I'm counting down the days to the next race.

Here's to hoping we both keep up this sort of pace.

1/01/21 - $400,149
2/14/21 - $427,486 (+$27,337)
3/01/21 - $443,490 (+$43,341)
3/19/21 - $451,670 (+$51,521)
3/31/21 - $458,005 (+$57,856)

Projected out, need to do $41,995 by October ($6,999 per month) - should be doable, but hoping with this pace we can move that goal up to August, maybe even July.

Joining the race!  Along with other recent graduates from the 100-250K thread : )

I don't own property, so this is just investments, in my name only (not my partner's).  A lot is up in the air right now with my job(s), so I have no idea how long it will take me to reach 500K, but my original goal was 300K by 2025, so I'm well along the way.

Tax Day update:

1/01/21 - $400,149
2/14/21 - $427,486 (+$27,337)
3/01/21 - $443,490 (+$43,341)
3/19/21 - $451,670 (+$51,521)
3/31/21 - $458,005 (+$57,856)
4/15/21 - $470,187 (+$70,038)

Projected out, need to do $29,813 by October ($5,421 per month) - should be doable, but hoping with this pace we can move that goal up to July, maybe even June.

Last time I posted in this forum I was in the 50k to 100k race. Thankful that I am now eligible to be in this thread now!

I started tracking my NW seriously in 2019 so here has been my progression. Percentages are the growth from line to line.

Vested NW Growth                      Growth
NW on 1/1/19:             $79,228.00
NW on 7/10/19:           $146,130.42   84.44%
NW on 2/13/20:           $177,847.14   21.70%
NW on 8/25/20:            $200,806.00   12.91%
NW on 12/31/20:    $250,785.43   24.89%
NW on 4/19/21:            $300,750.94   19.92%

Not sure if I'll remain at 300k for two reasons: market could dip and push me below and I'll have some cash coming out for a wedding in 2022. No biggie, though. I'm very happy with the growth since 2019.

May 2018 - 256
Aug 2018 - 272
Dec 2018 - 248
March 2019 - 282
June 2019 - 300
June 2020 - 370 and hit savings goal for the year!

01/1/20 - $176k
02/1/20 - $197k (bonus hit the account)
03/1/20 - $201k
04/1/20 - $195k
05/1/20 - $215k
06/1/20 - $237k
07/1/20 - $286k (received a generous gift towards new home - $40k)
08/1/20 - $297k
09/1/20 - $345k (home value jumped on Zillow - counting Zillow estimate minus mortgage towards NW)
10/1/20 - $441k (switched jobs and cashed out sick days; collected signing bonus)
11/1/20 - $462k
12/1/20 - $489k

Been a banner year for NW, not expecting nearly as many big jumps in 2021. Should be graduating in January, maybe February if the market dips.

Did not update this, but I hit 500k shortly after. Currently at about 600k due to stocks and the housing market in NYC suburbs going absolutely bananas. See you all at $1m!!

My pension rollover landed in my tIRA today so I am posting a midmonth update to announce that I am officially graduating from this thread. My house is going on the market next weekend so I probably won't stay in the next thread very long (who knows, that could be famous last words).  We also made 8K in the last two months from selling junk that we had around the house and property.

Rolled over the odometer, pretty stoked about that. We'll be halfway retired in no time - or said another way, we are FI now with just some lifestyle changes, and everything from here is lifestyle inflation for luxuries like healthcare

"A rising tide lifts all ships." It was a pretty awesome feeling to surpass the $400k in investments but the feeling only last for a day or two then it was right back to reality. Sometimes I wonder, what number will I really feel excited to celebrate? Or will I always be chasing the bigger number?

End of month update - promo bonus coming next month, plus a raise, which should make things hopefully move a little quicker:

1/01/21 - $400,149
2/14/21 - $427,486 (+$27,337)
3/01/21 - $443,490 (+$43,341)
3/19/21 - $451,670 (+$51,521)
3/31/21 - $458,005 (+$57,856)
4/15/21 - $470,187 (+$70,038)
4/30/21 - $475,833 (+$75,684)

Projected out, need to do $24,167 by October ($4,833 per month) to hit my initial goal - but think we can make June a reality if things keep chugging along.

~$12k increases in back-to-back months feels absurd. We're only contributing ~3,500/month + 2.5% home appreciation (~$700 in April).

Those are the kinds of gains I expect when we're FI. The market is crazy right now.

Received a small “inheritance” last month. My grandfather’s wife (not my grandmother) had his only daughter (my mom) written out of his will entirely, and sent a check to my brother and I, basically to keep us from contesting it at probate. Very long story behind all of it, but bottom line is that out of a seven-figure estate, I received $5k.

At the end of all of it, I’m ultimately grateful that I was close to my grandfather, had a good relationship with him, and got to be at his bedside in his final days. He’s with his redeemer now and in peace. The bitterness and greed of his wife is something she has to live with daily. She got her one last middle finger to my family, but now we are free.
