I guess I belong here - just cracked 100k recently between cash, retirement, and post tax accounts.

8/29/2019 - $105,163

9/30/2019 - $111,850 ($192,755)

[first number is liquid net worth, second number is total net worth]

Investments/cash:

6/30/19: $106,071
7/31/19: $112,395
8/31/19: $116,527
9/30/19: $124,973 (+8446)

Larger 401K contributions taken out mitigated the medical bills paid this month. Hoping those start to slow down soon...

For context: I'm 30 in a HCOL city. I'm married, but these are my own numbers since we keep our finances separate. Includes cash, retirement, and credit cards, which are used for normal expenses and paid off in full every month.

3/18: $48,533.91 (found MMM and started tracking)
3/19: $83,762.93
8/19: $101,572.33 (graduated to this thread)
9/19: $104,368.69 (+2,796.36, +2.75%)
10/19: $107,279.56 (+2,910.87, +2.79%)

I have restored the version of the spreadsheet from 9/29/2019, so you have to reenter some data. Somebody has messed up the structure. Please do not delete or sort rows or columns!

I’m jumping in this thread with a few ideas and thoughts in mind. I don’t plan to add house equity or extras like that. I’m not even going to add the spouse’s 401k. I’ll be solely tracking
My 401k and my Roth IRA Numbers to go toward the goal of $250k. I may add the savings account numbers later, but most of that pays toward the last of my mortgage and a basement remodel right now.

My stats:

Jul2019 — $101953
Aug2019 — $106277
Sep2019 — $111050

Numbers updated thru the last day of the month

I am tracking only IRA/401K/taxable accounts.
5/31/2018 $100,519.07  - not even the slightest clue on target date...I'll be here for a few years :)
6/30/2018 $105,187.34
7/31/2018 $109,052.07
8/31/2018 $116,748.06
9/31/2018 $125.833.33 (should slow down for rest of year as both 401Ks are maxed)
10/31/2018 $121,400.49 (market pain)
11/30/2018 $120,116/63
12/31/2018 $115,318.38 (more market pain and put some resources towards our new AirBnB venture - looking forward to buying stocks on sale now that 401K is back in play)
1/31/2019 $121,188.34 (next couple of months are my favorite time of year - 401K is in play, bonus and employer 401K match (3% of compensation) all hit)
2/28/2019 $136,880.76 (one twomore fun months, then back to slow(er) growth mode)
3/31/2019 $141,195.30 (one more fun month - employer 401k contribution and last month until max 401k for the year)
4/30/2019 $161,209.95 (going to try to continue speed with taxable account - we will see with a 2-week old at home how this plays out)
5/31/2019 $157,215.34 (market pain decline despite adding close to $4,000 in my after-tax account.....stay the course)
6/30/2019 $168,401.72 ($63,214.38 in one year...stay the course)
7/31/2019 $172,680.44
8/31/2019 $169,675.29
9/30/2019 $159,620.62 (why do we fall????  So we can get back up)

In extremely frustrating news, my employer just cut our 401K program.  Between my wife and I we earn too much to do a Roth IRA.  Are there any tax advantaged savings left I can explore?

HELP!

I have restored the version of the spreadsheet from 9/29/2019, so you have to reenter some data. Somebody has messed up the structure. Please do not delete or sort rows or columns!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z8OcegKpbeNJoqSI0nzoBuypFKqDD7BT2SS60oFEeCw/edit#gid=1302523503

I have done the same to the version of 03/10/2019 because again it has been destroyed by somebody :C

Bummer on having the 401k program cut - that blows.

Are you already contributing to an HSA/do you have that option? That's an additional $7k that's tax-advantaged.

Another option to explore might be a backdoor roth if you don't have too much sitting in your IRAs. As I understand it, you will generate a tax bill based on total IRA funds but if it's not a huge amount, it might be worth it. I admittedly don't know much about it but might be another savings option before going the taxable account route.

These are investments only between me and my wife`s 401ks, Traditional IRAs(maxed), taxable brokerage, immediate emergency in checking account($3,000), and Money Market account for emergency funds(currently sitting at about 6 months of our budget):

April 13, 2019 = $100,325.68
May 19, 2019 = $104,598.06
June 29, 2019 = $116,258.11
July 28, 2019 = $125,262.57
August 24, 2019 = $125,496.17
September 8, 2019 = $135,203.65
September 21, 2019 = $141,995.43
October 6, 2019 = $144,609.88

One year anniversary to MMM! We started with around $54,000 in our 401ks(After 15 years of doing very little in adding to it), and are up $90,000 in one year`s time.

Great testament to what focus and determination can do for financial goals. And now compounding will also start becoming a bigger factor!

02/2019 $150,040.56
03/2019 $152,786.73
04/2019 $200,186.35
05/2019 $195,428.02
06/2019 $106,265.42 (bought an apartment for my mom)
09/2019 $133,351.70 (market movement, my own apt appreciated)

I've been lax on tracking my finances, just needed a break. It was fun to see that an apartment in my building sold for 20k more than the last one which is what I use to determine value.

First posted here when I hit 100k in Nov. Original goal was to hit $250k by "early-mid 2020". Since that post, I got engaged and paid for the ring, most wedding expenses and prepaid the honeymoon. With those payments done I'm expecting savings rate to go back to normal, plus an expected bonus an raise in January, I think it's still very doable.

11/18: 101k
02/19: 109k
05/19: 123k
08/19: 132K
10/19: 151k

$200k and holding for about 3 months. Honestly feels like we are going nowhere. But we just have to keep at it.

I stumbled across this website a while back and finally decided to jump in on the thread to help with motivation (it's crazy how easy it is to spend money...). I'll only include details on this first post (I always like reading through other people's) and then I'll try to stick with a quick number update. The biggest struggle I have had with saving money has been my love of cars and travel which unfortunately aren't the cheapest hobbies. We'll see if this thread can motivate me to be a little stricter with the spending.

So the NW number is taken from Mint and includes my 401K, Vanguard personal account and the normal credit cards, checking and savings, etc. I'm only 26 years old and am not sure how far down the Mustachian path I'll go long term. I want to find a balance of smart spending while still indulging in luxuries occasionally, keeping my hobbies, but I also don't want to be working until I'm 60. I've always been called frugal by my family, but I'm nowhere close to a lot of people on this forum. The motivation to spend less is always a good thing!

Investments (401K, HSA and Vangaurd): $111,572.21
Cash: $3,511.25
CC Debt: -$3,240.32

In summary:
10/14/19 NW: $111,843.14

Cheers everyone, and good luck!

Looks like you’re doing pretty good for 26.
Out of curiosity, why are you holding enough in cash to pay of the CC debt but haven’t paid it off?

That just looks like a monthly balance to me, that’s what I do, keep pretty much exactly enough for the credit card auto payment to go through and cover whatever else comes out of my checking automatically.  The rest gets invested.  The balance sometime is more than my actual monthly spending because I’m still charging to the card but it doesn’t have to be paid off for almost an extra month, so a lot of the time I have like $3-4K balance on the card, even if my monthly charges are more like $2k.  Oh, and welcome Adblair0

Congratulations!  If you never invest another penny for the rest of your traditional working life, you'll retire at 59 as a millionaire!

Now to shave a couple decades off of that timeline and you'll be set.

1/2019 - $107,673.20
2/2019 - $116,133.78
3/2019 - $119538.07
4/2019 - $129090.20
5/2019 - $125,693.12
6/2019 - $138,641.02
7/2019 - $144,176.97 - decided NOT to buy a condo we were looking at and continue renting for the next year or two.
8/2019 - $138,441.20 - went on an expensive but valuable trip to Europe for two weeks + paid $6,000 for grad school tuition. Spent around $10,000 altogether in one month which is loco.
9/2019 - $144,935.02 - Saving rate around 65%. Spent a few hundred dollars on a birthday party which was well worth it. Currently working full time and going to school full time. The hustle is real. Not really sustainable but good for $$$ for the time being. Should cross the 150k mark in October, which will be a great milestone.

To be honest, kind of giving up on our target date for 250k now that I've started grad school. Will most likely stop working full time and switch to something chill that's part time at some point so I can focus on school. But I'll make up for it with an even better job after school. Great for life happiness and flexibility, not great on the initial shorter term agressive savings rates.

Was shooting for $250k by December 2020 but at this point thinking the 250k will more likely be sometime in 2022. Basically delaying everything by 2 years with grad school, but I think it's well worth it to invest in learning and growing in a formal education. The most badass thing with mustachianism and even this small chunk of FU money means that making the decision to do school more for fun than for money was a no brainer.

Just read this book - The Man Who Quit Money - and am completely inspired to live a more lean / minimalistic lifestyle - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005GSZIN0/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 . Highly recommend for those of you who like Early Retirement Extreme book.
