2019 Goal = $135k (Invested Total) & $222K (Total NW)
2019 Stretch Goal = $160k (Invested Total) & $250k (Total NW)

I do not plan to leave this race until the Invested Total is above $250k (Prediction = Jan 2022 or 4 year from start).

Code: [Select]
Month End 401K        IRA Invested Total Home Value Rental Value Debt         Total NW
Dec-13 $43,660 $0         $43,660 $120,000 $120,000 $232,000 $51,660
Dec-14 $52,943 $0         $52,943 $125,000 $125,000 $227,000 $75,943
Dec-15 $55,622 $0         $55,622 $130,000 $130,000 $227,000 $88,622
Dec-16 $68,870 $700 $69,570 $200,000 $130,000 $281,000 $118,570
Dec-17 $96,294 $1,167 $97,461 $240,000 $135,000 $317,727 $154,724
Dec-18 $103,098 $3,861 $106,959 $240,000 $125,000 $296,155 $175,804
Jan-19 $110,710 $4,151 $114,861 $240,000 $125,000 $313,885* $165,976

*I added $18k-19k of debt for the rental that I had not been tracking.  I realized that if I was going to count the rental equity & mortgage, I probably should count the other rental debt too.

Invested total is still down about $4k (not counting new contributions) from the 2018 month end high that I have recorded but it is $11k over my Jan-18 numbers. Which is about equal to contributions for 2018, so I am claiming that 2018 was not negative (just flat), for me anyways.

Looks like my invested total is back up to the 2018 high, now to get back to 2018 high + contributions since the high (extra $5.5k as of now)!

I love watching these numbers, even when they are not moving in the right direction.  I can't wait to add to my data throughout the year.

Hit 150k this week. It won't last next month or the month after due to some planned house repairs, but it's nice to hit a round number!

Bonus came in and raise is scheduled to go into affect in March.  Bonus is going towards debt, so hopefully we will see a pretty big decrease there in March, and raise allowed me to increase 401k contributions.  We also plan to start contributing to IRA again in March!  I am pretty excited (financially) for the rest of 2019!

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW including cash emergency savings and real estate equity.

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
December 2017: $193,677 (total NW $364,276)

January 2018: $203,876
December 2018: $194,973 (total NW $367,535)

January 2019: $210,742 (total NW $375,622)
February 2019: $220,342 (total NW $390,613)

The total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

If I'm reading your profile right you've been on this forum since you were 19? Three years of real salary to get to $100k is pretty impressive. It took us six years (though the 2008 housing crash certainly didn't help). Then our second $100k only took a year!

Here's hoping my second hundred goes as yours did!

Brand new to this forum, this is literally my first post. Excited to see this take off towards 250k and beyond. Started professional career in this country back 2012 at 31 years old, effectively starting from scratch. Super fortunate to have gotten a great opportunity in 2016 that has really allowed me to catch up a number of years in a short time span. My wife has been retired nearly 15 years, she is significantly older than me and she is therefore not interested in planning for the future. This is 100% a solo effort.

Edited: Added a lot more detail from what I could find on Mint.

Oct-12: $0.00
Nov-12: $432.15
Dec-12: $1192.8
Jan-13: $1542.90
Jan-14: $7286.11
Jan-15: $16985.5
Jan-16: $26770.16
Jan-17: $58399.77
Jan-18: $95469.77
Feb-18: 111724.81
Mar-18: $112878.91
Apr-18: $117425.35
May-18: $123001.77
Jun-18: $125427.65
Jul-18: $135341.45
Aug-18: $138059.7
Sep-18: $142216.90

I currently max out 401k, my Roth IRA and my ESPP which is pretty much all I can get away with due to S/O not being on board (which is somewhat understandable as she is on a pension already and significantly older than me). I also put about $4400 per year in HSA currently and may consider maxing that out soon as well. We could do with more of an EF buffer but again, she sees no value in it as she considers her income '100% guaranteed'. It is for the most part as the retirement fund she is relying on has done really well.

All done for the month
Oct-18: $149116 + $3500  in HSA which I'm including for the first time. = $152616

Graduation Target is June 2020 but January 2020 is my stretch goal.

Nov-18: $142004 + $3922 in HSA = $145926 Slightly lower drop vs what I had expected but I had some one time expenses and my tax advantaged savings vehicles are full for the year.

Dec-18: $145596.37 Investments incl 401k + $5265.18 HSA = $150861.55

Not a bad month, hope to eclipse the all time high next month and maybe even hit $155k.

Jan-19: $136537 + $6212 in HSA = $142749 Oh well, dropped significantly but still early in accumulation stage so monthly monitoring probably doesn't even make that much sense.

Excited to start contributing to my 401k again in January and to have taken advantage of the stock market pullback through ESPP.

My goal is to hit $210k as a stretch goal at the end of 2019.

Feb-19: Exciting end to this month and a big jump due to ESPP and some employer sponsored HSA contributions means I ended with $159520 split between 401k/Taxable/Roth/ESPP of $151306 and $8214 in HSA (most of this is invested though).

Edited with today's investment returns.

Mar-19: Another solid month in the markets: $159,074.12 investments + $8928.66 HSA = $168002.78

Nice bump!   I have more money in savings to add to this and finish our IRA contributions for 2019, so next month will see a bit of a bump, too....unless the market goes down!  20K increase in 5 months without any company contributions.  Pretty cool!  Glad we truly are saving my income and are not just blowing it.

Jealous!  I was 70 short at my end-of-Feb accounting, and the money I've saved for a downpayment will probably leave my account before my next tally.  So sad :P

Another month of great stock market returns pushing me up. If these hold on I should be able to graduate in the next two months! Very exciting.

I don't count my house equity, so this is just investments minus loans (I invest instead of paying off my low interest loans).

I am tracking only IRA/401K/taxable accounts.
5/31/2018 $100,519.07  - not even the slightest clue on target date...I'll be here for a few years :)
6/30/2018 $105.187.34
7/31/2018 $109,052.07
8/31/2018 $116,748.06
9/31/2018 $125.833.33 (should slow down for rest of year as both 401Ks are maxed)
10/31/2018 $121,400.49 (market pain)
11/30/2018 $120,116/63
12/31/2018 $115,318.38 (more market pain and put some resources towards our new AirBnB venture - looking forward to buying stocks on sale now that 401K is back in play)
1/31/2019 $121,188.34 (next couple of months are my favorite time of year - 401K is in play, bonus and employer 401K match (3% of compensation) all hit)
2/28/2019 $136,880.76 (one more fun month, then back to slow(er) growth mode)

Liquid Investments:

12/14 ~    $46,000
12/15 ~    $81,000
12/16 ~  $109,000
12/17 ~  $164,000
12/18 ~  $180,000
01/19 ~  $188,000
02/19 ~  $194,000

Also took a stab at TNW.  Estimated it in the neighborhood of $400K (or ~$600 if I were a RE developer/finance guru wannabe).

February recap: February spending was down significantly from the very expensive January, however, assets were still hit as some January bills came due. The strong performance of the market more than covered this, plus aggressive saving during the month and minimizes expenses (total credit card expenditures were about $150, and I redeemed cash back rewards to cut that to $77).

Grad school has been seriously tough, but I am holding water so far, even if it feels like everything else is underwater. Interviewed for a promotion at work which would be a boon to income, although it would almost certainly come at the expense of weekends off. Basement project continues but is finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel as most of the major work has been done including all the plumbing, 90% of the electrical, and all of the concrete subfloor.

I thought I was done selling down positions, but February's rise gave an opportunity to get out of some positions that recovered enough to sell, and a dividend cut in one stock in particular was cause for selling, but I reinvested everything back into the market right away. A couple more companies announced dividend increases, which will help. I am also hopeful we can get a new labor contract soon, which would carry retro pay that could immediately get invested in my 457 account to boost that.

December 2014: $89,173 (I don't have the exact date I hit 100K, so including this here anyway)
December 2015: $106,299
December 2016: $147,449
December 2017: $182,600
December 2018: $219,103
January 2019: $224,363
February 2019: $229,741

8/27/18 - $138,916 (if you count the $2500 my sister owes me)

Been feeling that restless desperation again of wanting to be done with this already. I can't stand the thought of obligatory work for another 5-8 years. I'm truly contemplating quitting my job when I reach $150K NW. However, that target moves around in my head a lot with my emotions...sometimes I think I'll quit when my investments reach $150K or when I have over $20K liquid cash...or sometimes I promise myself I won't do it until I reach $200K NW.

Either way, I need a break but I feel foolish to give up my comfortable position. There's no guarantee of what might happen if I just up and quit. I'm thankful for what my decent job has given me for eight years, but I have no motivation to do it anymore. I'm heavily involved in a Libertarian political campaign right now, so maybe when that is over, I might have time to really invest in a good side hustle I've got some ideas for.

Ahh, I'm feeling a lot better now. All that stress of last year is behind me and things have settled down at my job (we spent a whole year thinking we'd be laid off at any moment, but now the tide has turned and seems we'll be staying put for the next several months, at least). We got the impression last year from a series of communications about downsizing, budget tightening and revised structure on performance reviews that our bonuses and raises were going down the toilet, but instead I got a BIG raise and the BIGGEST bonus I've ever received (and the ones before were nothing to sneeze at, always a few thousand dollars)!  With the bonus, my annual salary will finally crack $50K this year and I'm so excited.

With such generous provisions, I've been able to front load my 401K with $10K this first quarter of the year, giving me a good head start to saving 50% of my income in 2019. The market bouncing back from the dive at the end of 2018 has helped too, although who knows what will happen this year.

I'm REALLY excited today because I hit a big milestone that has been painful to reach since my savings slowed down last year and market was lower than the last two years. As of today, I finally crossed $150K!!! I hit 100K at the end of May 2017, so this has been a long time coming.

3/13/19     $150,836
8/22/19     $161,185   Would have been $165K, but I bought my sister's old car recently. Still haven't sold my old car.

Great news, keep plugging along but be honest with yourself about how your job impacts your well being. As you get further on the path it should be less and less daunting or scary to think about finding a better opportunity.

You have more experience and that should give you the confidence to improve a situation you chose to leave.

I haven't been diligent about tracking or checking in, but I've become more so (handy as it corresponds to more diligence in savings too. The market collapse at the end of 2018 did not help.)

End of 2016 - $109K
End of 2017 - $194K
End of 2018 - $207K
Jan 2019 - $214K
Feb 2019 - $229K
Mar 2019 - $231K

Goal to graduate by my birthday in June.

Comparatively large net gain driven by large change to Zillow estimate on my house.  While Zillow estimates are volatile (and of debatable accuracy) I think it's more fun to add it in.  5K in home maintenance (plumbing) put a drag on investment contributions.  March should be much better as bonuses are distributed.
