I'll race ya!

My networth for the end of December 2016 is: $103,491, just over the $100k threshold.

I'm not exactly sure when we'll hit $250k since I've just started keeping track of net worth earlier this month.

2/1: $91,959
3/1: $93,145
4/1: $100,869
5/1: $104,268

2016 was a great financial year. I maxed my 401k (first time!) and Roth IRA (4th year in a row!). Increased NW by just under $48,000 on a salary of roughly $70,000. Exciting!

Awesome! It's amazing how much faster things progress than you might otherwise expect, isn't it?

It really is amazing. I keep looking at the numbers and shaking my head in disbelief!

Up $48k/yr liquid looks pretty damn good to me!
I thought I would be doing 54k per year 8-), I need to stop slacking. Gotta be more like you.

Passed the half way mark this month!

$179,734

There's a slight chance I'll finish the race by this time next year depending on how the market does.

I track over on the google doc (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z8OcegKpbeNJoqSI0nzoBuypFKqDD7BT2SS60oFEeCw/edit#gid=0)

I don't know when we'll get to $250,000 because my husband just lost his job and wants to adjunct for a bit for the experience before applying to tenure track jobs but we just passed $100,000 so I want to join.  Slow but steady for me right now.
That sucks, at least financially. My wife will be in school for at least 3.5 more years, and is thinking of even more, so I am handicapped too. You can race me!

Apparently I forgot to do the numbers for November, so here it goes:

This months numbers:
May 2015:  $100,323.89
June 2015: $106,433.29
July 2015: $114,450.69
August 2015: $118,018.27
September 2015: $121,664.35
October 2015: $132,652.87
November 2015: $138,272.53
December 2015: $144,824.70
January 2016: $149,731.88
February 2016: $159,138.30
March 2016: $172,089.61
April 2016: $177,924.11
May 2016: $182,266.37
June 2016: $195,382.39
July 2016: $207,370.73
August 2016: $210,598.32
September 2016: $211,858.91
October 2016: $217,642.90
November 2016: $219,133.69
December 2016: $195,225.97

The $24k drop is due to selling our home and various moving and living expenses incurred these past couple months.  House closed on 12/29 and funds were wired in 12/30.  I promptly filled up the tank on our IRA's and HSA's, reducing our taxable income to $0.  There should be a $2k return once we get all the documents in and file.

The rest of the proceeds from the sale we are debating over using Betterment or choosing our own Vanguard funds, and leaving about a year of expenses in our account.  By a weird coincidence even though we just moved out of country I got a job back in the States and will be temporarily moving back.  Not sure for how long, but it will be an interesting time.  We estimate being able to save at a rate of around $3000/mo, plus whatever the market brings us.  Might not be too far fetched to cross the quarter mill mark by the end of 2017.

Up to 109k thru October 31. It blows my mind that it is possible to improve net worth by $9k in 3 months.

Probably going to fall a bit this month, as there is an outstanding check for $6k. Bought a new car. The timing belt in my old car broke, and that did all the engine damage that can do. (Did you know that 2010 Hyundai Accents have timing belts? Well I didn't. Now I do.) It had 155k miles, and the repair would have been more than the car was worth. Sucks--that thing was a damn champ. I didn't put a dollar for repairs into that car, just maintenance. I was saving for a potential car purchase anyways, so I figured now was time--155k miles on a car that needs a repair more expensive than the car itself. I actually got another 2010 Accent, but this one only had $38k miles. $5900--and had enough in cash to just buy the thing outright. Emergency fund FTW!

Small drop, but not nearly as bad as it could have been. $107,889

Up to 112k. Here's everything from when I started tracking this, back to the end of February 2016 (including investments, cash, home equity, debt, and mortgage):

Feb 29: $79,516.82
March 31: $83,734.70
April 30: $87,137.39
May 31: $89,555.65
June 30: $93,641.14
July 31: $101,134.66
Aug 31: $104,093.75
Sept 30: $105,485.80
Oct 31: $109,245.15
Nov 30: $107,889.49
Dec 31: $112,056.39

Discovered MMM April or May. $32k gain in less than a year! It would be cool to go up $50k in 2017, but it will be a challenge with my first baby coming in April.

December against November 2016.

Assets
401(K): $100,950 $102,231 Maxed in June, so this is just returns.  I've set up my contributions so I'll be maxed by probably the second paycheck in April this year, which is nice.
Roth IRA: $25,586 $26,083 Maxed last January, I should contribute my 2017 $5,500 this week.
Taxable Brokerage: $71,029 $109,640 Up nearly 40K.  This is mostly my annual bonus money.  Going out on maternity leave whenever this stupid baby comes out of me, so this will slow down soon.
Savings: $8,661 $18,478 This is the rest of my bonus.  $5,500 will be for the IRA shortly.  Assuming a bunch of this will be wiped in the next few months.  We'll see.
Total = $206,226 $256,432

Liabilities

401(K) loan: ($10,400) ($9,650)  Not in a particular hurry to pay this off.  I think it will be paid off in August of this year.
HELOC: ($27,980) ($25,227)  I just threw a little extra at this from my bonus.  Rate jumped in June from 3.49 to 5.49, so I am now throwing some more money at this.  It's probably ~4% with my tax rate.  I might do better in the market, but I'll take this small hedge, since it's a floating rate and it's secured by my residence.
Total = ($38,380) ($34,877)

Net worth = $167,846 $221,555  I am up a LOT this month thanks to my annual bonus.  Pausing/slowing the stashing with a newborn on the way, but I feel pretty good about my progress for my first year of mustachianism.

ETA: When I joined this thread in May, I had $159,778 in assets and $55,737 in liabilities, for a net worth of $104,041.  I wrote "My goal for the year is to get to about $160,000, which I think is doable given the principal I'll pay off and amount I'll invest with my year-end bonus."  I came in 60K over my goal!

I'm uncertain about when I'll age out of this thread given the kid/maternity leave, but April is probably reasonable.

What?!  This is awesome!  $10,000 of that is probably real estate appreciation, but the other $28,000 is all savings and market. :)  (I earn $38,000 salary, plus whatever I bring in from side gigs.) I hope I can do as well or better next year!

Congratulations to all on their progress!

I'll race ya!

Welcome, GreenShirt!

NW is up $70,550 in a year! That's crazy, considering that's about the same as my net pay and 401k contributions (combined) for the entire year!

Wow! That's awesome :-)

Passed the half way mark this month!

NICE!

That IS awesome!

Increased NW by just under $48,000 on a salary of roughly $70,000. Exciting!

68.5% of gross! That's kick-ass.

The market helped of course, but my net worth went up by $44.1k in 2016 on gross earnings of 71.7k (61.5%).

Up $6,336.26 in December (4.92%) to $135,164.68.

My NW also increased by nearly my full after-tax net salary for 2016. I thought my NW calculations were wrong at first until I realized it was the earnings on my investments that made up the difference. I feel like this is really the first time my investment portfolio has been large enough that market returns have actually resulted in a real (like, thousands of dollars), measurable increase in my NW.

After the major derail of October (husband totaled our car and took unpaid time off to recover) getting back on track. I had to purchase a new used car, but insurance reimbursement softened the blow.    Misfortunes continued in December: family emergency travel, and work truck failed inspection.  The "rust bucket"as the mechanic called it was not worth fixing, and no decent work trucks were to be had on Craigslist at Mustachian prices... still looking.  To balance the bad, I got a nice bonus in December, most of it went straight to 401k.

Hope to reach 250k by the end of 2017!

I've been quietly lurking, waiting to throw my gauntlet down, and now the time has finally come.

With the end of year profit disbursements my stash now stands at just over $103,000 (does not include real estate).

So:
Dec. 2016 - 103,000

Target Date: April 1, 2019, with roughly $60,000 saved a year.
Housing decisions may derail me, but everyone needs a goal.
Looking forward to the challenge, and looking forward to earning out of the challenge even more!

Just wondering if most people here include the equity in their home? If so, I should be in the next thread also as my house is paid off and it is worth more than 250K.

Congrats! You are doing great!

I do, but I probably wouldn't if my house was paid off and I had no intentions of ever moving. The fact that there is debt and that it likely will ultimately be paid off by selling the house itself (short of a windfall, or not moving for 20 years) means it probably makes sense to track the equity. I just use the tax value less outstanding mortgage for spreadsheet purposes.

I always forget that there is a spreadsheet for this group:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z8OcegKpbeNJoqSI0nzoBuypFKqDD7BT2SS60oFEeCw/edit#gid=1302523503

I should mention, because looking at people's entries there might be some misunderstanding - to make the formulas play nice (on the Big Board tab), all dates on the Data Entry tab are the first of the month rather than the last date.

So, your end-of-month for December, 2016 would go in the January 1, 2017 column. Hope that makes sense!

I have been. I keep the value at what I what I bought it for at the bottom of the market, less than the taxable value though. For me it is an important part of my stash because a paid off home significantly reduces my expenses (as housing is my biggest expense). I keep a separate column in my spreadsheet that just shows invested assets too.

Hello All!
I want to join in on the race!  I updated the spreadsheet with my historical data.
Current NW: $185,501 (including RE).
NW w/o RE: $122,896.

Hubs was unemployed for most of last year but now that we are back to DINK status I'm excited to ramp up savings and we are gonna try to get to 300K by EOY!

I do include my condo equity. I'm still years off from FIRE and there's a fair chance I'll sell my place before then, at which point the equity would be added to my stache, so it's worth including the value now, IMO.

I included mine because I was aggressively paying off the mortgage and wanted to see progress in my net worth.

My wife rolled over her 403b at a non-profit she worked for into a Vanguard IRA when they offered her that option a couple of months ago.  $72,000 worth.  Check just cleared at Vanguard yesterday.  We are now up to $281,000 in liquid investments!!  Guess I have to go join that other thread now :)

December against November 2016.

Assets
401(K): $100,950 $102,231 Maxed in June, so this is just returns.  I've set up my contributions so I'll be maxed by probably the second paycheck in April this year, which is nice.
I was going to start doing this with my new job now.  Last year I missed out on maxing it out due to being laid off after the first quarter.  We now have enough money set aside to be flexible enough with paychecks.  Plan is to as soon as possible set it to fill out the max they'll let me contribute at one time, there's no match, so no problem there.  Great to see others have come up with the same idea.

Joining in, though I expect to get knocked down pretty hard in a year or so when I buy my first house. First the history

2014-1-1: $60k
2015-1-1: $92k
2016-1-1: $125k

Mustaching harder lately.

2016-12-2: $187,320

So, I don't even know what's going on. I REALLY didn't expect this big of a jump in one month
2016-12-2: $187,320
2017-1-1:   $202,158

We spent like maniacs over the christmas season. Presents, travel, nice food. Now that the mustache is growing, I'm having a different issue than my non-mustachian friends. Sometimes I don't know where the money is coming from rather than where it all went...

Net Worth (includes all assets and all liabilities)

Jan 2016     $80,165.78
Feb 2016     $88,372.39
March 2016 $101,768.81
April 2016   $106,876.35
May 2016    $106,529.21
June 2016   $109,892.28
July 2016    $115,035.02
Aug 2016    $125,235.44
Sept 2016   $126,076.92
Oct 2016     $129,441.04
Nov 2016    $135,152.36
Dec 2016    $138,352.17
Jan 2017 $147,729.69

Big jump because of increased home equity (I didn't include all of it because we'll have closing costs coming up!), investment gains and continuing to pay down mortgage, student loans, and car. Next month I hope we hit $150,000, even with the sale of our home messing up the normal net worth calculations.
