We are approaching $100k NW growth in three years, which is rad.

Our NW over that time reflects the various markets of the past three years: the up market in 2021, which helped our NW; the bear market in 2022, in which NW didn't change all that much; then the bull market this year, in which NW shot up 40%.

The volatility is the price of long-term investing success!

So proud of us for sticking it out.

Nice work! And right you are, sticking it out sounds easier then it is, so great job sticking it out!

Just touched $250k, if it sticks for Dec 1 I’ll consider myself graduated.

Congrats!  Hope it stuck and that you are entering the new year in a new challenge :)

Thanks!  I managed to stay above 250, and I’ll be hitting the new year hard with some ambitious savings goals.  Despite NW going up faster than ever, it was a bit of a lax year for savings compared to 2022, so I need to refocus on that

166.635 €
+ 5.433 €

Y2Y my net worth increased by 36.079 €. I am very happy with that result.
I ended the year with an 30% savings rate. A step down from the 40% last year, but definitely okay. The one month with -100% was pulling it down. But it happened.
I missed a few months... over half a year. Well, my son was born, I think that's an acceptable excuse.

My projection is that I finish next year with 200.000 € and that I will graduate in March 2026 to the next thread. My goals will be more about my savings rate, since I can't control the market ;-).

Great job, everybody! Proud of all of us for working towards our goals!!

@Fifo
By "DCA-ing low" are you are saying the 2022 bear market was a slog? If so, agreed. 2023 was far more "fun" from the point of view of looking at investment returns, especially the past few months.

Nice job yourself!

Joining the group of year-end graduates. This year had a lot of ups and downs, so it's nice to end on a positive note. I'm not as frugal as some and not as aggressive putting money in the market as others. I just do what I can and enjoy my money/life.

Someone might want to take up the mantle of the monthly tracker.

Blessings and Prosperity for 2024 to you all.

Until the markets stablized, I'll probably be inbetween this thread and the race to 100K

JAN 2022: 40,699.37
MAR 2022: 87,840.41
JUN 2022:  86,153.42
AUG 2022: 100,611.5

JAN 2023: 109,070.31

Oct 2023: 147,632.73

Been a ridiculously spendy 12 months for me. Planning to challenge no buy for 6 months.

Jan 2023: 176,026

Joining this challenge as it would help me aim towards increasing my networth. My estimate, if excluding any major "downturn" in the market or correction, I can reach that number in between 3 to 4 years. Some people say that networth exponentially goes up after a certain amount, so I'm wondering if I'm that might decrease the time to get there, but I won't keep my hopes up.

I initially had hoped to graduate this thread by this month but we fell short, it was a stretch goal for sure. Think we will make it there by July. Cheers to a good year!

Fantastic @mgardner88 .  You are ripping it up.

Thank you! I'm really just along for the ride lol

July 2018 - £20,385
 - Annual gain 2018 - £4,119

Jan 2019 - £25,295
Nov 2019 - £38,588
 - Annual gain 2019 - £13,293

Jan 2020 - £43,260
Aug 2020 - £50,172
Dec 2020 - £62,638
 - Annual gain 2020 - £19,108

Jan 2021 - £64,542
Dec 2021 - £105,802 (graduated to next thread!)
 - Annual gain 2021 - £41,278

Jan 2022 - £91,915
Dec 2022 - £103,544
 - Annual gain 2022 £11,629 BUT still down on Dec 2021. Awful year.

Jan 2023 - £109,683
Dec 2022 - £134,519
 - Annual gain 2023 £24,836

Jan 2024 - £124,775 - house reno money came out

Had to take £15k out of investments to pay for a much needed house renovation. Always hurts to see the number go down but well worth it and means I'll be able to live in my home forever rather than needing to move.

2018: $18,547
2019: $36,489
2020: $61,099
2021: $103,151

   2022   2023   2024
January          $102,690          $119,041        $167,218 (+$6,598)
February$105,595          $124,353
March$107,269          $128,884
April$108,030          $132,108
May$104,108          $134,148
June$100,594          $140,664
July$101,599          $145,998

November$115,708          $153,486
December$116,633          $160,620

Increase$13,943          $41,579

Looking at the numbers, it just occurred to me for the first time that my NW in Jan has increased by more than what I'd have been able to save with just my salary alone. And it feels amazing!

Hope everyone's had an amazing January as well!

The market is been amazingly kind the last two months - DCA-ing low for the past 2-3 years, but seeing the boost on my investments in the last two months has also felt great!

Great job, everybody! Proud of all of us for working towards our goals!!

@Fifo
By "DCA-ing low" are you are saying the 2022 bear market was a slog? If so, agreed. 2023 was far more "fun" from the point of view of looking at investment returns, especially the past few months.

Nice job yourself!

Yes, exactly that! I've had to change my mindset to look at my savings rate (something I can control) instead of worrying about my NW which is very susceptible to market flux at this point of time!

Yeah, I made that shift in 2022, I still track NW, but focus a lot more on savings rate and meeting my goal each month now that the market can make me feel lazy if it goes up and frustrated when it goes down.  Better just to focus on what I can control and let the swings happen

+ 12.553 €

The big jump is the new evaluation of my life insurance. But the markets did their part as well. On my way to reach the 200k by the end of the year. But since I can't controll the markets, I will focus on reaching my 40% savings rate (stretch-)goal.

Until the markets stablized, I'll probably be inbetween this thread and the race to 100K

JAN 2022: 40,699.37
MAR 2022: 87,840.41
JUN 2022:  86,153.42
AUG 2022: 100,611.5

JAN 2023: 109,070.31

Oct 2023: 147,632.73

Been a ridiculously spendy 12 months for me. Planning to challenge no buy for 6 months.

Jan 2024: 176,026

Feb 2024: 192,902
I may reach for the stars and try to get to $250K, but we'll see.

My tax return this year was larger than normal, helping to contribute to my growth this past month. February was my single highest month over month growth since I started tracking exactly 5 years ago. In the five years since I began tracking, my net worth has increased by over 200k, I bought my first home (now with substantial equity not tracked here), and I am preparing to begin a new, higher pay job in April. I feel amazed when I look back at the progress I have made and now have the added effect of having large amounts of money invested, pushing me forward over the next 5 years! Glad to see everyone else showing healthy progress thus far in 2024!

The increase is absolutely crazy. Mostly driven by markets and crypto. But I added a good chunk of savings as well (over 50% of my take home, thanks to a bis additional payment).

So I already hit my December goal. Let's see if the goal is still met in December. 250k seems closer than March 2026...

April '23 : $100,655
May '23  : $102,304
June '23 : $104,200
July '23 : $108,200
Aug '23 : $107,850
Sept '23: $105,270
Oct '23: $106,800
Dec '23: $110,000
Jan '24: $113,500

*anticipating a drop as I'll likely owe more taxes than I prepared for. But overall happy with the way things are going (most of the growth this year is investments going up as my savings amount hasn't changed much)
