Mar 2018       $226,966.28
Apr 2018     $225,520.37 -$1445.91

Large expenses this month: $700 Costco cash card (timed for a 10% Discover cash back bonus), plane tickets for Thanksgiving travel, $1250 in federal taxes, and $500 in honeymoon travel expenses. Restaurant spending was a little high this month.

Upcoming expenses/income: I should get a state tax refund next month, and we will have additional wedding expenses, plus some home renovation spending. I may be accelerating some utility and insurance payments to hit a minimum credit card spend. Take-home pay should decrease by about $100 after adjusting withholding.

I wonder how long we'll be buying stocks on sale?

It is going to be really weird for those of us who have ever only known gains our whole investing life of up to the past 9 years (almost literally, the Great Recession bottomed out March 9, 2009) when the good times stop being good.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to it. I started investing in 2012 and have never experienced anything other than small downturns. If you have a stable job, a sustained bear market during your working years is a tremendous opportunity to stockpile assets.

I am trying to keep that mindset too. "Focus on the number of shares you're buying, Nick, not necessarily on the current value. When the market goes on a strong bull run again, you'll see how fast your portfolio rockets up."

But yes, with everyone having apps, and able to check balances whenever, it's hard not to focus on the current value.

Taxable investments

03/2018: $170,547 +$42,355/-$1,920 Contribution/Investment Loss

WOW
Sold a house, reinvested 40k of the equity here, the rest went into the new house.  Nowhere nearly as impressive with the background story.

January 1, 2018        : $97,318
February 2, 2018       : $104,695
March 1,2018            : $107,006

Tax returns, bonus and an extra paycheck month helped increase net worth despite the stock market volatility.
Hopefully raise next month will add cherry to the icing.

Investments and liquid assets, not including condo equity:

April 15, 2017 -           164,900
May 1, 2017 -             ? (Lost info)
June 1, 2017 -            ? (Lost info)
July 1, 2017 -             180,808
August 10, 2017 -       189,280
September 1, 2017 -   193,727
October 1, 2017 -        209,968
November 1, 2017 -     220,602
December 1, 2017 -     225,918
January 1, 2018 -        232,213
February 1, 2018 -       245,447
March 1, 2018 -           242,789
April 1, 2018 -             246,140

A positive month despite the market downturn.  My condo is rented again, which is a huge help, and the renters are supposed to buy in a few months if all goes well.  The government owes me something more than 10k between all the back pay for my job and my tax return.  I feel like I am just a free loan to them...  Hopefully I will get some of that money this next month.

Feb 1, 2016 - $90k
Jan 1, 2017 - $177k
Jan 1, 2018 - $196k
Feb 1, 2018 - $214,462
March 1, 2018 $225,651
April 1, 2018 $238,764

I知 still on track to hit my goal of 250k this month, but it値l be a little close and if the stock market drops even 1-2% it won稚 happen.

I知 also the sole breadwinner and as of now I知 quitting my job on May 4th as long as everything still works out as planned. Our savings will like drop from around $13,500/mo down to $10,000/mo, but I値l be working 50 hrs/wk instead of 75, and will be in a far less stressful position. The trade off to me will be worth it. Biggest fear is leaving current job and something falling through on the new one. Lot of money left on that table.

01/2017:  $42,000
....
01/2018:  $143,602
02/2018:  $151,025
03/2018:  $158,208
04/2018:  $161,505

Still trending upward despite the market! And just got about a $15k raise at work, so the slope of the graph should go up this year.

$43,153 - Jan 2016
$67,328 - Jan 2017

$119,626 - Jan 2018
$123,301 - Feb 2018
$127,224 - Mar 2018

$126,450 - Apr 2018

First negative in a while, so that痴 a bit disappointing.  Market bit me.  Planning to buy a house in the next 12 months, with a bit of luck I can nab one cheap.

First number is retirement savings, second is total NW.

January 2015: $98,619

January 2016: $101,235
December 2016: $140,779 (total NW $269,089)

January 2017: $151,307 (total NW $276,052)
December 2017: $193,677 (total NW $364,276)

January 2018: $203,876
February 2018: $200,867 (total NW $382,740)
March 2018: $196,371 (total NW $393,470) ouch with the market losses this month

Goal is to hit $250k by the end of 2018.

I know the total NW is over $250k but I'm focused on retirement only for this challenge. A good chunk of the NW is real estate equity.

Last few months have pushed out the projection by a few, but still heading in the right direction! A couple more years and these market swings are going to be pretty tough to compensate for by our contributions, I guess a good problem to have. Might hit 250k in June

Background on net worth: No kids, 1 dog (he's a very good boy), we own a house.

08/2013: $9,216- had been making 18k, got a job making 27k
02/2014: $14,413- new job in December making 38k
08/2014: $17,890
02/2015: $34,041
08/2015: $58,584 - new job in May making 55k
02/2016: $77,264
09/2016: $96,145

10/31/2016: $101,606        (+$2,334)
11/17/2016: $103,940        (+$2,334)
12/30/2016: $109,785.19   (+$5,845.19)
1/31/2017:   $112,318.74   (+$2,533.55)
2/28/2017:   $119,499.39   (+$7,180.65)
3/31/2017:   $124,640.83   (+$5,141.44)
4/30/2017:   $109,329.00   (-$15,311.83)
5/31/2017:   $108,986.53   (-$342.47)
6/30/2017:   $114,809.37   (+$5,822.84) Husband started working making 75k
7/31/2017:   $118,822.63   (+$4,013.26)
8/31/2017:   $127,150.06   (+$8,327.43)
9/29/2017:   $137,371.91   (+$10,221.85)
10/31/2017: $131,182.62   (-$6,189.29)
11/30/2017: $160,216.75   (+$29,034.13) We bought a house!
12/31/2017: $167,991.01   (+$7,774.26)
1/31/2018:   $180,969.37   (+$12,978.36) Husband started new job making $61k plus bonus
2/28/2018:   $184,798.13   (+$3,828.76)
3/31/2018:   $184,548.87   (-$249.26)

Ouch. This ended up being an expensive month and the market losses didn't help. We had almost $900 in medical expenses and bought a $1.5k painting direct from an artist, plus our theater subscription renewal hit this month too. On the bright side my 2k raise should start hitting the paychecks in April and we are almost done with the big house purchases. We built a patio this month which was our second to last big house project. The only thing left on the list is a fence and we haven't actually decided we want one yet.
Not so bright side: We've realized that my husband hasn't been getting paid his bonuses since he start the new job. He doesn't feel comfortable asking the financial manager/co-owner about it due to his own feelings that he hasn't been a good hire for them. It doesn't help that she hasn't been in the office much for him to ask. I am getting frustrated about this, but don't want to push him too much.

I only count investment accounts minus loans (low interest student loans). Saved $4990 but only went up $580, got some cheap stocks out of my normal buying plan I suppose.

We have now closed on our house so things are stable enough to join.  Tracking everything except real estate in this challenge

6/30:  198.7k
6/30:  198.7k
7/31:  207.5k

If we can continue this pace, we would hit 250k at the end of the year.
6/30:  198.7k
7/31:  207.5k
8/31:  211.8k
6/17:  198.7k
7/17:  207.5k
8/17:  211.8k
9/17:  222.1k
10/17: *missing*
11/17:  234.7k
12/17:  242.4k

3/18:  263.3k

Decided to start tracking quarterly this year so not sure when I crossed the 250k mark.  On to the next thread (fingers crossed that a market pullback doesn't bring me back!)

Jun 2015:  $50k
Oct 2016:  $100k
Nov 2017:  $150k
1 April 2018: $160,000

I'm just counting shares and cash, and ignoring my retirement fund (superannuation) & student debt (hecs). My goal is to reach $200k by the end of 2018. That's providing the stock market doesn't drop too much. I'll get a decent tax return (~$6k in August) and my parents are gifting me $10k, which will push me to that $200k mark.

Marketable securities:

12/15 ~    $81,000
12/16 ~  $109,000
01/17 ~  $116,000
02/17 ~  $122,000
03/17 ~  $125,000
04/17 ~  $130,000
05/17 ~  $130,000
06/17 ~  $134,000
07/17 ~  $138,000
08/17 ~  $142,000
09/17 ~  $148,000
10/17 ~  $151,000
11/17 ~  $158,000
12/17 ~  $164,000
01/18 ~  $174,000
02/18 ~  $172,000
03/18 ~  $175,000

Put up a post with a little more detail, but it looks like investments were a little bit of a headwind this month.  Over the last two months declines have offset pretty much all of my savings.   I am trying to mentally prepare myself for a year where all of the savings are offset by declines.  I am sure it is going to be hard to keep up motivation in that environment.

Hi everyone.   I would like to join this race.  I've been trying to be frugal and save more ever since I got out of debt in late 2013.  I just found MMM last December, and this January I created a Mint account.  This is the first time I've ever tried to actually keep a written budget.  Oh my gosh, it's so much FUN!  Maybe I'm just a total nerd.  Anyways, this place is amazing and you all are very inspiring.

Total NW

Jan 2014-  $10k
Jan 2015-  $30k
Jan 2016-  $52k
Jan 2017-  $80k
Jan 2018-  $106k

Feb 1, 2018-  $109k
March 1, 2018-  $113k

April 1, 2018-  $117k
It's been a good month.  We haven't been affected by the market at all because (big facepunch) all $117k is sitting in a savings account.   I know, terrible.

Yes. This is where I am too. We've put about $7,000 into our 401K/IRAs thus far in 2018, and with the market being down 3 or 4% for the year, pretty much all of our contributions have been offset. I think our balance is pretty flat for the year.

And yes, it's going to be tough to remain optimistic if we go into a bear market. I know we need to approach this as a long-term ride, but the ability to check performance and balances any second of the day with a tap of your finger really butts up against the long-term mindset.

I've already told myself that if we're getting to $250K net worth by Dec, it will have to be through debt reduction. That can provide the steady net worth increases that give me (and more importantly, my wife) momentum.

Including IRAs, 401(k), HSA, and Investment Account.
Jan 1, 2016 - $81,396
Aug 1, 2016 - $120,039
Oct 1, 2016 - $122,943
Jan 1, 2017 - $128,893
Mar 1, 2017 - $151,772
May 1, 2017 - $156,756

Dec 1, 2017 - $201,106 - nice! Crossed over to the $200k line. Let's hope I can stay for awhile. Still projecting Jan 2019 to hit $250k.

Up $8,430.68 to $242,448.77.

Took advantage of some overtime, and my 403b match for last year finally dropped in. Good month!

Very good month @SpareChange !

Despite the rocky market this month, we've crossed the $250k threshold

Congratulations @aneel !!!!!

Joining in on the fun.

Welcome @Milkm4n !

Decided to start tracking quarterly this year so not sure when I crossed the 250k mark.  On to the next thread (fingers crossed that a market pullback doesn't bring me back!)

Congrats @nick663 ! See you in the next thread!

I see a good few people are getting close to graduating also :-)

I had a pretty good month due to a 401k elective contribution for my employer, and a nice bonus ahead of my 2.5-week vacation in Japan (life is sooo hard).

+$5,941.79 (2.65%) to $230,215.59

Ever since I graduated into this group, it's been a ruthless struggle to maintain 6-figure NW.  I am just trying to keep investing at the rate the market drops for now haha!
