My largest single month increase, my new personnel high for net worth, and oh so close to graduating this thread. Unless there is a big down turn in the market I should be graduating from this thread next month with a bit of buffer. It is exciting for me to see such large increases and it almost feels surreal! Congrats to everyone else as it appears many of you had exceptional months as well!

Real progress!  Partly the market and partly executing the plan.  And partly my husband really getting fully on board for the first time.  He’s doing awesome.  We’re on track to finish filling the IRAs for last year before the cutoff.

Nice result this month, due to the market moving quite a bit. Didn't save as much money as I hoped, but I am stockpiling money for a bigger hobby-expense. Trying to stay strict with myself for that one.

I’ve been focusing on investing over paying off debts in my 4 years of saving. We’ve built a nice nest egg that should buy us a few years without employment if needed. I will track my net worth here, excluding house equity.

2/3/23: $7,700 - first time positive since getting married

Ay carumba.

This month was a big push to put money into RRSP's before the deadline combined with the fact that I'm in a no-buy/low-buy year
(also bought & paid off plane tickets for June).  I didn't make all this money in one month, some was moved out of little emergency accounts that weren't counted in this challenge before (ie..an envelope with cash and a little hidden-from-me online fund..ha) but am still feeling inspired.

Another up and down month in the market. I contributed $1,450.00 this month, but only have a $181 gain. Oh well, keep on contributing and waiting for the market upturn.

Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344

January 2023: EUR 52,461
February 2023: EUR 50,213

Goal for 2023: EUR 60K

This is the downwards movement that I planned for. Paid all outstanding travel expenses (we will travel in April, May AND July.....) and paid off all credit cards, so from now on it's upwards only for the rest of the year (hopefully.....).

@M5 : congrats! You made it!
@regenaeb : I feel the same. I make my regular contributions, but markets are slow....... I keep waiting for the market to recover.....

In terms of savings this was a better month than last month, more than 30%! But in Jan, the market helped and in Feb they stayed flat. So it seems like the previous one was better.

All in all a good month. I also got the news that my parents will help me buy a house, which is fantastic. Its gonna eat a lot of this liquid money, but I'll be able to buy a home :D despite being a single earner.

01/03/2023: 60.002,28 € (+ 355,61 €)

Another tiny step in the right direction. Markets took another downturn and we bought the kitchen of the previous renters in our new place. My share of that was close to 2k €, so actually quite happy that the numbers still went up this month (some of the cost was offset by selling the kitchen in the old place, but that one was crappy and way less €€). We finished our move last weekend. February was really hectic with renovating the new place to be fit to move in, so I'm looking forward to some months just coasting along.

Hi :) I think this is my first post in this thread.   I am at $87,800.  Getting close! :)  All my assets are currently fixed income, home equity etc. so it will be a steady ride.

Just need to see how much GST I need to pay for taxes and then I'll hopefully hit this goal in the next month or two

Looking at my net worth over the last three years always makes me feel very accomplished.

May 15, 2020: $5,972
March 31, 2023: $72,766.

Most of that is real estate value from buying a house at a very good price at a very good time, but I still feel pretty good about it.

That said, the last year has been pretty static and it's time to get much more serious about socking away cash.

Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344

January 2023: EUR 52,461
February 2023: EUR 50,213
March 2023: EUR 51,197

Goal for 2023: EUR 60K

Just a nice and steady month. Nothing major happening, just the regular additions to the accounts. April will be challenging, since we will be travelling a little and I will try to stick to the budget!
Did all the taxes in March, so hoping to get a nice refund in april, although that will be used to repay our mortgage (which is not in this overview).

@TyGuy : CONGRATS!!!!! You made it!

Decent month last month, even though I spend a lot on hobby items. The next 3 months are going to be "sav, save, save" as I am in the process of buying a home. My total net worth is going to go up a lot soon, but that will be due to my parents gifting towards my house. Its a bit weird. They are giving more than I am worth in all the world (monetarily). But I realize I am incredibly lucky to have the help and support. Up and Up.

Well, of all things! Super excited to reach this goal. Amazed really.

The next few months will be very slow income-wise due to dental work, time off, travel & all the life stuff so will hesitantly bump myself into the next race..will need to get a bit more of a buffer before I feel like I actually truly have graduated. All the best to everyone!  :)

Thanks @Trifele & @Treedream !

The mental hurdle might be the hardest component of that first 100k--my family talks a lot about their lack of finances :)

Could've made better choices along the way (I can veer either austere or spendy; also took poor advice from a friend and lost a chunk *should've known better*) but I'm celebrating by being proud of this and aiming onwards & upwards.

You and I have been on a very similar pace to get to $100,000 and our timing of dips and market issues has been step for step. I just got paid today and my Mint says about $99,500, but with a mortgage coming out and a few other things to be paid I figured i'd better wait until the next paycheck to cross myself off of this thread. Congrats to you, i'm coming in right behind ya! My buffer situation is a little different. I've been battling to get that $100k figure, but as soon as I do it on my own I'm going to finally start counting an ESOP from my employer as i'm about to be fully vested, and there's a little bit of money in there that will officially be mine, so i'll leapfrog up the totem pole a little bit once that happens. But again I just wanted to do the 100k on my own first! Congrats again!

Tracking cash savings and liquid investments (so excluding pensions and house value and my DH cash savings, since he has his own account which I'm not tracking)

December 2020: EUR 25,141
December 2021: EUR 40,501
December 2022: EUR 50,344

January 2023: EUR 52,461
February 2023: EUR 50,213
March 2023: EUR 51,197
April 2023: EUR 48,521

Goal for 2023: EUR 60K

Downwards month because we used part of our liquid funds to do an early repayment on our mortgage (which is good for our net worth and good for getting the monthly fixed expenses down, so more possibilities to save). And we went to travel for a week, which also got the liquid funds down a little. But we made loads of good memories as a family, which is way more valuable. Next month will be holiday pay and (hopefully) tax return. However, the tax return will be immediately redirected to our mortgage, so this will not be in this challenge.

@Serendip CONGRATS on passing this milestone. You did it!!!!

When you say early repayment on your mortgage do you mean the entire mortgage is now paid off? Otherwise how would it affect your monthly fixed expenses. I ask because it barely affected your numbers.

When you say early repayment on your mortgage do you mean the entire mortgage is now paid off? Otherwise how would it affect your monthly fixed expenses. I ask because it barely affected your numbers.

It is a partial repayment. We have two mortgages and are working on repaying 1 as soon as possible. Original repayment date of this one was in 2033, but currently it stands at 2031 and we're hoping to get rid of this part in 2027. Which means that after 2027, the monthly free cashflow available for investing will increase significantly. In theory, we can already repay this mortgage in full from our savings and investments, but then we have no emergency fund left, which does not feel right. But any windfalls go to this mortgage to shorten the repayment period (and slightly lower the monthly expenses because of less interest).
The other mortgage will probably not be repaid, since the interest rate is fixed till 2040 at 2.59% and our house value is >3 times the mortgage value.
