Personal update: we are making progress to our $100k goal :)

To make it as easy as possible, I am going to track all of our accounts (including checking/liquid money used for expenses)

5/27/20 -  $71,051

On your marks, get set... Go!

Jan 22,634
Feb 24,893
Mar 23,454
April 28,515
May 34,893

Next months are going to be harder as the stock market probably will not keep that pace up. And the pay cuts are coming.

Fingers crossed I'll hit $70K:) by EOM June.

I did it - I'll hit $70K by EOM June - that means $20K savings in 6 months. I am surprised to see it really happened.
YAY:)

Next goal hit $80K by EOM October - we'll see - it all seems surreal compared to where I was in 2015.

@DieHard_772 - how is it that I can never quite catch up with you?:) JK - Nice to see you are still hanging in there.

How are people generally playing?  I am going to leave out home value and debt and only report the total of cash and investment value.  This isn't my net worth, just what I consider our 'stache'.  I am including my emergency fund and checking account. Are others including that or are more people reporting a more complete networth value where they are subtracting debt and adding in value for less liquid assets, like a home?

I am doing full net worth (house - mortgage, cars, cash, investments, student loans, etc.), but I think people are doing all different things.

For me, it's a savings goal, so I'm counting my savings account (I never keep a lot of money in checking) + pre-tax individual retirement investment account + post-tax investment account.

I am not including a pretty secure pension. My company has recently changed the retirement scheme so from 2020 I am no longer paying into a defined benefit pension scheme but instead have a retirement investment account much like my own pre-tax retirement account (I am not in the US, things are different here). I am considering adding this money to my monthly savings goal but I haven't done that yet. I don't include my home value or mortgage because home value is just a wild guess. I'm in a really overheated market and bought at the right time (pure luck) so the money we have in the home would be the majority of our net worth, but if the market would collapse due to Covid-19 all that fictional wealth would be gone. I also don't include my student loan because it's a small 0% interest loan from the government with income-based repayment. At this point I have like 100 months of €45/month payments left and it's just so insignificant that I honestly can't be bothered to check the remaining balance every month.

Hey @Sanitary Engineer,
We don't have home asset/mortgage to factor in.  Also, as I am aiming to get to $100k as quickly as possible, I am including everything,
including liquid cash that fluctuates with spending. I agree with what @Optimizer, we may be all handling the game our own way.  This is how I'm doing it. Cheers

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Goal for 2020 is to make it to $75K.

Apr2020:$47,551 (+$9470)
May2020:$51,613.42  (+$4,061.93) Yeah finally made it to the big 50K! I am particularly happy as I was in the 30k's just two months ago. We will see how many more times I cross this line.  Lets keep moving forward!

Net worth:
01/01/2019: -    109,47 €

01/11/2019: 10.726,98 € (+1.008,80 €)
01/12/2019: 11.773,70 € (+1.046,72 €)

01/04/2020: 15.456,74 € (+   417,65 €)
01/05/2020: 16.903,74 € (+1.447,00 €)

01/06/2020: 17.847,51 € (+   943,77 €)

Only about half of the growth are savings, as this was a very high spending month compared to usual. Got a new (to me) road bike, barefoot shoes that are office compatible and therefore expensive to hopefully get rid of constant shin splints and a speeding ticket. Next month should be back to usual spending levels and a higher savings rate. Currently in the process of selling my motorbike to boost savings, as I don't use it as often any more, but interest is very limited (probably due to decreased spending due to the coronavirus).

20 Dec 18 - 37,800
Mid March 2019 - 45,815
20 June 2019 - 50,890
Mid September 2019 - 57,608
15 December 2019 - 65,794
15 February 2020 - 76,452
1 April 2020 - 71,465
15 April 2020 - 77,936
15 May 2020 - 80,396
1 June 2020 - 86,248

WOW! I was expecting a jump but not that big. Combination of getting paid monthly 401k equivalent, market rebound and chucking a bundle into stocks with my partner. Not 100% happy with spending yet, but at +6k in 15 days I really can't complain. Target is still >90k at EOFY.

Ps: since someone asked, I do total net worth. I rent and have no debt, so I just add up all my assets from most to least liquid. I exclude my spouse as we keep finances separated.

We got here sooner than I expected. 58 months ago I started earning a real paycheck; 35 months ago I found MMM and started tracking (see above). I bet the second half of this race goes faster than that!

ETA: This is my full net worth. I have no debt; $43k is in investments and $7k is in cash, between the emergency fund and just the money that gets spent every month.

Hi everyone, I just graduated for the 10k thread. There I was just counting my invested cash as I was getting started. For this one I might include pension value and company shares as they'd be part of my stache. I'll leave my home and cash etc for my annual net worth tracking I think, want to keep it simple for monthly updating. Will probably mean I start over 50k but that's ok :)

@Sanitary Engineer I count all my saving/checking, house, investments, mortgage, and student loans toward my net worth. I do not include things like cars(completely paid off, but would include the debt on them if I had any) or other personal items. Just my way of figuring net worth.

@Gingersnaps and @TyGuy Welcome to this thread!

Thanks for the encouragement @DieHard_772 @TyGuy !

Had to replace the joint car for another one due to problems in it's electronics, almost lasted five years. The replacement was €3500, so my half of that almost wiped out my vacation pay. Currently checking if our holiday plans are still viable: after thinking for months it would by a certain no-go, the region seems to be opening up next week. Possibly some time off in july then, almost surreal.

Hi everyone! Thrilled to be joining you today from the 10k thread.

I graduated from law school 6 years ago with around $225,000 in debt and no assets to speak of other than a few thousand bucks in a Roth IRA. For various reasons, I made very little progress during my first three years out of law school -- then, in 2017, I started working at a firm and tracking my numbers, starting at approximately $198k in the hole. Since then, I have paid off a decent chunk of the debt, but I've prioritized saving in my tax-advantaged retirement accounts first. I also bought a house. Today, I still have $130k of student loans, but I also have $107k in retirement accounts, plus home equity and an emergency fund. In total, my net worth is:

$19,606.73

Yay @mckaylabaloney it's so great to see more 10k graduates here! Like @LittleWanderer I believe - I'm not at my highest net worth ever, but after today's gains my investments are at it's highest ever.

I haven't seen @Manchester and @Hirondelle for a while I think, how are you guys doing?

Congrats @JCGreen and @Tass for crossing the $50k mark!  More than halfway there!

And welcome to all the recent graduates from the Race to $10k thread.  Great job everyone!

For some reason this got lost over the course of this year. I have updated it and I hope this helps people who really liked this(me being one haha).

Oh, I didn't even know about this! I went back and filled in my numbers from when I was in the Race to Positive Net Worth, and Saving to $10K threads.

edit: Maybe I shouldn't have done that. Does that throw off my stats for the Graduates tab?

Thought I'd jump in and join this thread. I've read it pretty consistently for motivation. Work just announced some belt-tightening that's got me a bit down, but I know it'll be a marathon for me either way.

Welcome @scapegote!  Even if it takes you a long time to 100k (as it did for me) you'll get there!  And you're in great company.

The Graduates tab is manual entry(except the last two columns) when you have completed it. So you can put what ever you would like as your start dates/network for this thread

Welcome aboard, @Gingersnaps !

It doesn't feel real how quickly things have rebounded, but I'll take it! Part of this month's increase is from an ESPP purchase.

Market rally, I guess. I’m happy to clear 90k in June, looks like I may hit $100k by mid-July. July is also a 3-paycheck month for me, which is great.

I haven’t been spending money on nearly anything this year, besides some eating out and vet stuff. Makes for a very boring life story, but good for retirement saving.

I've graduated from NW 1MM but most of my nw is tied up in real estate, and who really knows what that stuff is worth in this era.
I'm going to use this thread to hold my post-tax account accountable.

5/3/20: 64k

6/4/20: 595k
It's been a wild and scary ride with options in $C, $TSLA, $FLIR, and $DKNG, to name a few.  Gonna go back to conservative MMM mode.

Originally, I was tracking by myself, but since I don't plan on retiring alone, I am going to start tracking my husband's money too.

@lexde Nice job on passing $95k! I feel you on the "boring life story" thing, though to me financial well-being is hardly boring!  However... maybe you can find something fun to do.  We need to enjoy ourselves too ;)

Yee haw, good job

@lexde Nice job on passing $95k! I feel you on the "boring life story" thing, though to me financial well-being is hardly boring!  However... maybe you can find something fun to do.  We need to enjoy ourselves too ;)

Yee haw, good job
Absolutely, and I’m thankful for it! I do need to find some free or cheap activities soon, though!

Between my dog being very sick and not being able to leave her unattended, and the pandemic, we just haven’t gotten out much. She’s healing though, so we should return to some sort of normal soon. :-)

Hey all,

I just felt like saying this:  I know we are all committed to our growing NW passing SIX FIGURES.  Believe me, I'm as excited about this as you are.  Yet, though I am really enjoying the ride up (and the recent stock market growth), I'm also not attaching to it... because after all, it could change significantly next week, as we all know.

Instead of being attached, I figure, I just want to REACH each milestone, which helps gradually shift my new normal.  You know, so now that we have reached $70k, I am adjusting to that as the new normal.  Not too long ago, $30k was the normal.  If/when another crash happens, we'll ride it out, knowing that eventually our NW will grow back to what it was and soon expand beyond it.

This is allowing me to enjoy the ride, delighting in each new plateau, but not needing to control the stock market to be happy!  :)

I figure, just because I don't know what will happen next, or whether my portfolio will keep going up or whether the market will take it down in the short run, I still feel that it is valid (and important!) to celebrate the wins along the way.

I mean, you don't have to stay at the top of the mountain to have enjoyed the view.  Each time you reach a new plateau, you can forever say you got there, and if something happens to take off that plateau, you can look forward to getting there again (and then blowing right passed it).   No matter what happens next in the market, we are all getting used to having more and more in our stash.  And in the long run, more and more abundance becomes the new normal, so we are likely to maintain and grow that.

In the long run, it's good news all around :)

Keep up the good work!

Student Loan Debt:

01/12/19: $43,762
05/04/20: $21,456
06/05/20: $21,456

Net Worth:

03/04/19: -$30,065
05/04/20: $10,739
06/05/20: $18,006 ($7,267)

Big increase in net worth this month, even after paying some of the early closing cost on a new home this month. I expect a drop in net worth this next month as I will be closing on a house and the money will be going towards the down payment. This money will not be lost as it will become equity, but I will not be tracking it in my overall net worth. Excited to finally have my own home and it will serve as further motivation to keep my savings rates high!

@lexde, thanks for the reminder about July being a three paycheck month!

Net worth currently at $96,135.33

I haven't tracked with the diligence of other posters, but I was at about $0.00 3 years ago when I found MMM and Frugalwoods. My income has ranged from $45k to $73k in that time period (commissioned sales and some job changes).
My goal is to spend as little as possible in the next 6 weeks so that I can pass $100k and graduate to the next thread. I do have some planned spending that will take it right back down in August, but I'd still like to see that number for a while

@okcisok you're so close!!!!

I think of you every time I look at my FIRE coloring page (borrowed your idea in 2018 to color in a bit each day until the big day).  Are you doing anything similar as you work toward getting over this hurdle?

July 12, 2019: $66,565
Aug 1, 2019: $68,207 (+2.47%, +$1,642)
Aug 29, 2019: $69,931 (+2.53%, +$1,724)
Sept 29, 2019: $71,138 (+1.73%, +$1,207)
Oct 31, 2019: $71,517 (+0.53%, +$379)
Nov 29, 2019: $73,138 (+2.27%, +$1,621)
Jan 01, 2020: $74,276 (+1.56%, +$1,138)
Feb 06, 2020: $73,621 (-0.88%, -$655)
March 05, 2020: $74,517 (+1.22%, +$896)
No data for April, I lost my interest seeing the losses :)
May 05, 2020: $68,620 (-8.59%, -$5,897)
June 04, 2020: $70,345 (+2.51%, +$1,725)

The panic after the virus decimated my net worth (literally, I saw an almost 10% drop). The reason for huge loss is that I had around 1/3 of my portfolio in a risky ETF that mainly invested in oil (yeah, I know) and suffered a 30% drop. To rub more salt into the wound, I kept buying this ETF when I thought the time had come (at -10%). Fortunately, later I could buy more when the price reached the bottom, so at least some of my investments is in the black.

On the plus side (if there's any plus side of this virus) I spent much less in the last 3 months than in previous year (by 10%, 25%, 25%, respectively), reaching a 70% SHR (75% with bonus received in April). Basically, I spent money only on meal orders, groceries, ice cream, pastries and coffee :)

I sold 2 domains for $400 and $1500 in March and April, latter was a lease so I got a steady $100 revenue for 1.5 years. No other sale since the beginning of April, I guess this is the effect of the recession.
