December 2019 Update
3/31/2017 (52,848.85) - Found MMM
3/31/2018 $(14,916.69) - 1 year in
3/31/2019 $9,917.20 - 2 years in
4/30/2019 $19,835.78
5/31/2019 $21,498.65
6/30/2019 $17,825.45
7/31/2019 $19,232.60
8/31/2019 $18,295.57
9/30/2019 $20,402.75
10/31/2019 $24,417.80
11/30/2019 $29,601.50
12/31/2019 $36,186.69 +6,585.19 increase

Another great month, I got a little over $2k in dividends which helped boost up the number but even without that it was a good month. Just continuing to plug away at student loans and maxed out my 401k contribution for the first time ever this year!

If things continue as they have been then I should finish this race by fall 2021 but I am going to try really hard to beat that.

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

9/29/17 - $11,511 (First post in thread)
6/30/18 - $36,000
7/31/18 - $38,676
8/31/18 - $40,277
9/30/18 - $50,572
10/31/18 - $46,085
11/30/18 - $48,956
12/31/18 - $46,003
1/31/19 - $53,028
2/28/19 - $58,276
3/31/2019 - $67,340
4/30/2019 - $70,674
5/31/2019 - $69,853
6/30/2019 - $75,757
7/31/2019 - $78,206
8/31/2019 - $83,589
9/30/2019 - $83,292
10/31/2019 - $87,539
11/30/2019 - $98,502
12/31/2019 - $96,225

December Notes

Well, I did not get paid in December, as I am paid once a month and my December check came early, as reflected in my November, stats. Accordingly, I did not expect much progress this month. What I didn't expect, however, was multiple ER visits for DD. Thankfully she is now perfectly fine, but the resulting LOTSA medical expenses coupled with Christmas and Car Insurance being due led to a pretty rough month. I expect to tip over the $100K mark tomorrow when my January check posts - though my open enrollment benefit changes apparently got screwed up somehow, so exact progress TBD.

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Goal for 2019 is to make it to $45K.

Net worth:
Dec2017:$7800
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800
Sep2018: $23,645
Oct2018: $23,658
Nov2018: $23,948 (+$290)
Dec2018: $23,960 (+12)
Jan2019: $27,100 (+3140)
Feb2019: $29,443 (+2343)
Mar2019: $31,603 (+2160)
Apr2019: $33,959 (+2356)
May2019: $33,933 (-$26)
Jun2019: $37,928 (+3995)
Jul2019: $39,736 (+1808)
Aug2019: $39,918 (+182)
Sep2019: $34,179 (-5739)
Oct2019: $38,091 (+3912)
Nov2019: $39,867 (+1776)
Dec2019: $43836 (+$3968/month) (+$19,876/yr)- So close to the 45K goal, if I could have just avoided a car purchase I would have made it. Good Job Everyone!  Goal for 2020: $70k

5/1/2015     $4419.53
5/1/2016     $15689.46
5/1/2017     $34125.20
5/1/2018     $51663.60

12/2/2019   $88148.59 (+$6874.43  or  +8.46%)

1/2/2020     $90835.16 (+$2686.57  or  +3.05%)

A decent month.  Always nice to see that number on the far left change.  Normally I don't include my CC balances in my liabilities column because I pay them off frequently enough that it's more or less a wash.  However between xmas and vacation, I had run up a not insignificant balance.  Even though I paid them all off this morning, the money is still sitting in my bank accounts and it seems disingenuous to count the bank account, but not account for the balances.  I don't like seeing that liabilities column go up though.

July 12, 2019: $66,565
Aug 1, 2019: $68,207 (+2.47%, +$1,642)
Aug 29, 2019: $69,931 (+2.53%, +$1,724)
Sept 29, 2019: $71,138 (+1.73%, +$1,207)
Oct 31, 2019: $71,517 (+0.53%, +$379)
Nov 29, 2019: $73,138 (+2.27%, +$1,621)
Jan 01, 2020: $74,276 (+1.56%, +$1,138)

I've spent more in December than I had expected, and it was a mediocre month investmentwise.
SR was 60% for this month, and 60% for the year as well. I wanted to reach a bit better rate, but it is still a good number.
My next year goal is at least 65% savings rate and I want to reach $90k by 2021.

Went to Japan and had a great time, and spending went up. Getting ready to buckle down though and increase our savings rate. Also realized wife has a few thousand dollars in an old 401k that wasnt captured. once that rolls into her current one we will have a little boost.

Flat net worth BUT I bought stocks on sale, holiday period is over, and my pay is late. Also expecting end of year dividends and income so hoping the next few updates will resume back to strong growth.
Objective is to leave this thread before the end of the year, hopefully with a few months of advance.

Some good investment returns last month :). Might be able to reach 100k at the end of the month. Found out my job is secure until the end of June, so it seems very likely by the end of February.

Just contacted my former pension plan. Commuted value is difficult to calculate and I'll get a figure in six months. But I was assured I will get at least my contributions + interest, so: $6,826.01

So my current net worth:
$65,536.55 + $7,678.96 + $6,826.01 = ‬ $80,041.52‬  Woot!

December 1st update: $86,963.15

I received no pay over the summer, but travelled to England and Italy. I also treated myself to a new MacBook for work/pleasure.

With the threat of layoffs/strikes due to our new anti-education government, I will be slowing down my spending drastically. I know I'd be a lot closer to my $100,000 goal if I hadn't spent money on my trip/new technology, but you got to live a little.

I figure I will reach $100,000 by the end of February if my job remains stable.

All numbers are for joint net worth between my SO and I.

9/1/2018    $ 10,182.02
10/1/2018    $ 14,632.57
11/1/2018    $ 16,671.27
12/1/2018    $ 23,468.48
1/1/2019    $ 30,900.13
2/1/2019    $ 34,820.54
3/1/2019    $ 40,959.03
4/1/2019    $ 48,963.23
5/1/2019    $ 49,324.37
6/1/2019     $ 54,756.42
7/1/2019    $ 62,703.77
8/1/2019    $ 68,173.37
9/1/2019    $ 71,590.05
10/1/2019    $ 74,831.89
11/1/2019    $ 80,846.08
12/1/2019    $ 85,705.97
1/1/2020    $ 94,851.23

My NW made up about 80%, his about 20%. With a pay raise, a lean spending trend, and hopeful continued good market performance, we should hit 100k - and graduate this thread - before Feb 1.

A nice big jump! I expected this from quarterly 401k and dividends but maybe not as big. Very pleasant although I could have done even better. Objective is now to be over 90k before middle of the year unless the market tanks. If I limit going out and cycle to work, very do able.

This was kind of a four-paycheck month for me; a three-paycheck month, plus the (late) payment for some additional work I did last year. As a result, I saved more money than I usually make in a month and half-funded my Roth already.

My spending was also very low. I haven't eaten out once since the holidays ended.

Hi all,

joining the race now, even though NW crossed 10k in November 2019 already (it had already been 10k in early 2018, but then a 2-month trip before starting full-time work, furnishing the new appartment, buying a car that was needed for work etc. happened and basically put me back in the negative). I'm hoping for this to keep me accountable and motivate me to stay frugal in those instances where laziness or comfort might lead to just throwing money at a problem instead of solving it myself.

Goal for the year is to reach 25k. Here are my 2019 numbers:

I do not include my savings to buy expensive "fun items" like new cellphone, electronics etc. as it is not very big. My checking account is also not included as it has money I will likely spend this month. Goal for 2020 is to make it to $75K.

Net worth:
2017:
Dec2017:$7800
2018
Apr2018:$13,200
Aug2018:$22,800
Sep2018: $23,645
Oct2018: $23,658
Nov2018: $23,948 (+$290)
Dec2018: $23,960 (+12)
2019
Jan2019: $27,100 (+3140)
Feb2019: $29,443 (+2343)
Mar2019: $31,603 (+2160)
Apr2019: $33,959 (+2356)
May2019: $33,933 (-$26)
Jun2019: $37,928 (+3995)
Jul2019: $39,736 (+1808)
Aug2019: $39,918 (+182)
Sep2019: $34,179 (-5739)
Oct2019: $38,091 (+3912)
Nov2019: $39,867 (+1776)
Dec2019: $43836 (+$3968)
2020
Jan2020:$ 45,839  (+2003)-Pretty average month for me, I spent a little more than usual, but it doesn't effect my savings rate. It looks like a lot of people are nearing the 100k mark. I hope you make it soon!

Feb 1st 2020 Update:$101,272.15.  WOOT!!

Figure I'll stick around for another month to ensure that I stay over the goal :) This includes $17,405.32 in pension contributions that are hard to value... but since I'm early in my career, if I were to quit today, I'd get back the value of my contributions... so it's worth at least that.

Also includes $4000 in held pay that I'm counting. Essentially, it's pay that I've earned but my district holds onto it until the summer as they think they are helping us budget for the summer when we receive no pay (in reality, I'd much rather have the money up front and earn interest, but sadly that's not an option in this district).

January update: $96,301.56

After last update on the 26th, I received a mini-windfall, reponsible for 70% of reported NW rise. I'll get something of a wage increase, but am not sure how high it'll be yet. Also did some extra side-work, will receive a bigger check than usual from them next month. If all falls my way this year, I might even make 100k, but that is a 1% scenario. Realistically, I'll have to be very content with 90k in december.

I only have another ~15k in liabilities. I hope to see faster growth in the next year or two.

I'm really upset that I didn't hit 15k with the minor dip in the market. So close... I'll be nearing 16k by the end of the month, though.

26/11/2019: €14,311.49

01/01/2020: €14.500 Goal

I didn't update this at the start of the year. However:

01/01/2020: € 13.900 This was lower than the goal, because I hadn't considered that I would have to pay for 2020 health insurance before the beginning of the new year. Overall super happy, because this was more than I expected to have.

Goal 01/01/2021: €27.500 Excluding sinking funds for holidays and health insurance, including student loan at 0.01% interest. This is starting off well, because I got a small raise at work.

01/02/2020: €15.260 Very frugal month :D

Hello everyone! It is my first time posting in this thread, I just made by way over from the race to $10k thread which I just surpassed.

Here is a basic breakdown of the numbers as of the end of the day today:

Total Cash/Cash Equivalents: $31,642
Total Liabilities: $20,131

Net Worth: $11,511

Virtually all of my liabilities are student loans. I also have some minor balances on my credit cards, which I pay off monthly. I've been aggressively attacking the student loans (see my participation in the student loan challenge if curious) and have made steady progress.

As for asset composition,  20% are in checking accounts, 13% is in my HSA and 67% is in my 401k.

9/29/17 - $11,511 (First post in thread)
6/30/18 - $36,000
7/31/18 - $38,676
8/31/18 - $40,277
9/30/18 - $50,572
10/31/18 - $46,085
11/30/18 - $48,956
12/31/18 - $46,003
1/31/19 - $53,028
2/28/19 - $58,276
3/31/2019 - $67,340
4/30/2019 - $70,674
5/31/2019 - $69,853
6/30/2019 - $75,757
7/31/2019 - $78,206
8/31/2019 - $83,589
9/30/2019 - $83,292
10/31/2019 - $87,539
11/30/2019 - $98,502
12/31/2019 - $96,225
1/1/2020 - $96,048

January Notes

Ehhhhh.... Painful month. For starters there was a substantial goof-up on my check (which still isn't fully resolved). So that is $1,400 of missing money this month. Also had almost $3K in medical expenses and some general dumb spendypants-ness, so yeah awful month.

On a positive note, I have received my February pay and I am above $100K, but no graduating for me just yet as I would like to see how the month shakes out. I am laser-focused on curbing controllable spending this month and there is an impending tax refund as well as the hopeful resolution of my payroll woes so as long as the market holds up I should be able to get there this month.

July 12, 2019: $66,565
Aug 1, 2019: $68,207 (+2.47%, +$1,642)
Aug 29, 2019: $69,931 (+2.53%, +$1,724)
Sept 29, 2019: $71,138 (+1.73%, +$1,207)
Oct 31, 2019: $71,517 (+0.53%, +$379)
Nov 29, 2019: $73,138 (+2.27%, +$1,621)
Jan 01, 2020: $74,276 (+1.56%, +$1,138)
Feb 06, 2020: $73,621 (-0.88%, -$655)

It was a painful month with a stunning 1% SR :D I had the following special expenses: quarterly public transport ticket, utilization cost in advance for 2020, some gifts, charity, etc. The bottom line is that having paid these stuff in advance makes me able to reach a 65-70% SR in the next 11 months. I hope my investments will have a better performance, and maybe my domain business takes off this year.

All numbers are for joint net worth between my SO and I.

9/1/2018    $ 10,182.02
10/1/2018    $ 14,632.57
11/1/2018    $ 16,671.27
12/1/2018    $ 23,468.48
1/1/2019    $ 30,900.13
2/1/2019    $ 34,820.54
3/1/2019    $ 40,959.03
4/1/2019    $ 48,963.23
5/1/2019    $ 49,324.37
6/1/2019     $ 54,756.42
7/1/2019    $ 62,703.77
8/1/2019    $ 68,173.37
9/1/2019    $ 71,590.05
10/1/2019    $ 74,831.89
11/1/2019    $ 80,846.08
12/1/2019    $ 85,705.97
1/1/2020    $ 94,851.23

My NW made up about 80%, his about 20%. With a pay raise, a lean spending trend, and hopeful continued good market performance, we should hit 100k - and graduate this thread - before Feb 1.

2/1/2020    $ 100,928.81

A little late to report here but I am nonetheless proud to day that we have graduated this thread!!!!!! I am confident that this will stick, so I'll see you all in the next one.
