I'm going to try to track my NW monthly this year to chart my progress. Starting 2016, I had a NW of $50,000. I'm hoping to grow it to over $75K.
Once I get to $100K, I think I will give myself permission to move into my own apartment, as I've spent the last 8 years living with the same roommate--saving a ton of money, but not getting as much privacy as I'd like.

Jan 2016 - $50,000
April 2016 -$57,000
May 2016 - $60,000
June 2016 - $63,000
July 2016 - $69,000 (profit sharing, plus market doing better - so glad I front loaded this year!)
Aug 2016 - $72,000
Sept 2016 - $74,000 (markets down, same deposits though)
Oct 2016 - $74,000 (uggghhh...)
Nov 2016 - $78,000 :D
Dec 2016 - $84,000 (Wooooo! Dale tu cuerpo a alregria, Macarena...!)

Jan 2017 - $87,000 (so far two paychecks front-loaded to 401K at 80%)

Crossed $90K just now, yay!

Jan 2016: 19,799
Feb 2016: 18,990
Mar 2016: 21,803
April 2016: 34,510
May 2016: 37,172
June 2016: 40,277
July 2016: 47,027
August 2016: 47,772
September 2016: 51,071
October 2016: 53,397
November 2016: 59,326
December 2016: 64,142
January 2017: 69,685
February 2017: 71,722

It's helpful to look at the numbers trending upwards. It's easy to compare myself to others and sometimes it feels like I'm barely moving forward. Just. Keep. Saving!

2016:
3/8: $20,818
3/29: $23,784
4/21: $26,650
5/20: $28,769
6/30: $32,015
8/1: $34,808
9/1: $37,342
9/29: $39,883
10/31: $41,720
11/28: $44,979
12/30: $56,197
2017
1/30: $59,598
2/28: $94,135

We just put our whole bonus into savings.  I know it isn't the month end, but we are pumped that this is the first time we haven't spent the bonus before we got it!  We're still far from the frugal levels of most folks here but this one felt good.  Looking to graduate around May/June now.

Updated for month end total.

Nicely done! Those must have been some tidy bonuses!

I'm on track to reach the next level about the same time you are, although my spending is about to increase a lot due to me moving out into my own house from a roommate situation at the end of this month. I know it's going to be challenging to keep my same level of saving and I'm probably going to have learn a lot of new saving tricks, but I'm excited for the general, upward movement of my accounts.

$93371 today! So close to $100k. It would be possible to cross the line next month. But we plan on buying a house soon so we will be set back a bit for closing costs.  I guess for tracking purposes on this thread the value of the house will offset the loan.  So hopefully the only set back will be those closing costs.

Mar 2016     $35,000
Apr 2016      $31,751
May 2016      $38,742
Jun 2016      $40,970
July 2016      $61,657
Aug 2016     $64,120
Sep 2016      $66,961
Oct 2016      $70,179

Should make $75k by the end of the year.

Dec 2016.   $ $78,000

NW with house/rental condo: 71k.

NW without house/rental condo: 33k.

Wow, didn't know I had that much! Guess 100k isn't impossible but I'd like to stay here till I get 100k without house/rental values :D.

NW with house/rental condo: 74k.

NW without house/rental condo: 35k.

Man I can practically smell it :)
Does not include house as it's not really an asset until we sell it.
Should be getting my bonus (1K minus taxes so $666), annual merit increase (usually around 3%), and hopefully promotion (all indications show I will be getting it) on the march 31st check so I think another 3 or 4 months and I can graduate to the race from 100K to 250K.

someone keeps messing up the spreadsheet, and I keep having to restore it to a previous version.  unless you actually know what you're doing, please don't sort the sheet.  If you DO sort the sheet, double-check a few of the NWs (compare against previous versions) to make sure you didn't accidentally scramble everyone's info.

If you entered information after Feb 15, it's gone.  You'll have to re-enter it.

I'll join.  Just recently started tracking my NW.

Jan 2017:   $19,166.96
Feb 2017:   $20,947.41

Hoping to crank up the savings soon!  Next month might take a hit (new tires).

Mar 2017:   $21,475.05

Bad month for us.  $500+ in tires, $350 in unexpected medical, and $1000 check to the girl scouts for cookies (My daughter is selling and we have to buy them up front and we'll be reimbursed when we sell).  Hopefully this month will really make up for February.

9/2014 - (-$16,300)
1/2015 - (-$13,000)
1/2016 - (-$284)
3/2017 - $31,380

New member to the forum, but I'll join, considering only our investment/cash.
4/2015  - $7,000 total savings!! (we were living like there's no tomorrow, but new job matched 100% up to 6%, so this was our  trigger to start saving)
12/2015 - $13,000
4/2016  -  $25,000 (started maxing out my 401K)
12/2016 - $52,000
3/17      - $84,000

Starting 2017, my wife and I will be contributing max to our 401Ks, ROTH and HSA (me only) so we should, hopefully, accumulate pretty fast.

Welcome Richard!   You're right that with both of you maxing out, you will be at $100k before you know it, and then it's on to the next race (to $250k).   :)

First post.  Was near zero around Q4 2015 due to transitioning from school to software engineering job.  "Accidentally" saved a lot the first year due by avoiding too much lifestyle inflation (biking to work, rent is actually less expensive than while in school, etc).

Got a promotion and large raise (25 percent) in Q4 2017, discovered this forum, and decided to start saving deliberately.  I've been formally tracking my net worth since January.  This is emergency fund (cash in bank) plus retirement and non-retirement investments (no debts to account for).

Jan 1 2017   $53743
Feb 1 2017   $59995
Mar 1 2017   $65150

My goal is to reach 100k by November 1 2017.

Welcome Eporedia and Prickly_Turing!  2017 is going to be one fine year . . .

I sure hope so. I want to get rid of some of my debt:

1. About 4k in hospital/clinic bills (My son tonsillectomy and then my girl fell and hit her chin). Insurance covered some, but between deductibles/etc I still have about 4k. I'm paying about 400/mo for now so they do not send me to collections (they do not charge any interest on this one).

2. Finish paying my car (mustache alert -> got the car used, after my 600$ car heating system died. I live in NW Wisconsin). I still owe 4900 on it, 3.49% interest.

Good news for the year:
1. Received a modest 3% increase that will be all applied to my 401k.
2. Small bonus coming - probably 2k. I plan to put 500 on kids 529 college + 500 on car payment and the rest on mutual funds.

Thank you for always keeping us honest!

Glad to hear things are looking up, and after only a few months.  I think that's great progress.   I've enjoyed reading about your self employment adventure, but need to catch up after a break from the forum.

DH and I are planning to start our own self employ venture within the next year.  Hopefully we will be as fortunate (hardworking) as you.

I only really track my 401k balance (at end of month) and only for the last couple years.

In my 20s I put something like 10% in and thought I was doing great (better than average), we also tackled 1 student loan, 2 car loans, credit card debt, and bought our 1st home (now a rental).  For the last several years I have only been putting 6% (plus a company match) into the 401k, while we saved for a wedding, down payment on a house, started a family, went to 1 steady income and 1 self employed income, and are continuing the last student loan.  We are still working on paying off my last student loan and building the self employed income but I am really hoping to hit $100k in the 401k sometime in 2018, if the self employed income starts taking off and we can contribute more to an IRA I will add that into the calculations too.

Dec 2013: $43,660
Dec 2014: $52,943
Dec 2015: $55,622
Dec 2016: $68,870
Feb 2017: $74,784

I did do a quick back of the envelope net worth calculation that included debt, primary and rental home value, and vehicle value and that put net worth around $150k, but since I don't regularly track that stuff I don't want to join the next group until the retirement accounts are above $100k.

- Richard

3/16/17 - 95500. I was fortunate enough to receive a pretty decent (to me) bonus last week, plus the first 6% my company matched 100% into my 401K, so our number has risen quite a bit in a couple weeks time. Hoping we cross the 100K threshold next month. I'm pretty excited.

Stay the course, everyone!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, my fellow green Mustachians! I'm happy to report me 401K pot o' gold just crossed $60K, bringing my total NW to over $93K! Just a few more months until I graduate to the next level!

Hi folks, I'm new to the boards, though I've been lurking for a month or so, and thought I'd jump into this thread (I'll go introduce myself in the welcome thread, too). Nice to meet y'all!

I've only started tracking my net worth this year, so:

January 2017:  $54,765.72
February 2017: $58,616.88
March 2017:     $62,304.54

I've been digging myself out of CC and other consumer debt for the past few years, and will be completely out from under the credit cards by the fall equinox - and then I anticipate seeing these numbers really take off.

Wow, great work BeautifulDay! You made some big jumps in there.

I added my NW to my sig line, but I wanted to participate in this journal as well. We have some big expenses coming up in the next month or two (repairs/improvements around the house), so it will take a little step back.

Might be hanging out in this thread for a while.
