One Song Wonder: Early October
« on: October 03, 2018, 08:53:44 PM »
one song: one improvement [one week]
Thread Oct 4 - Oct 15

The brain child of @joonifloofeefloo

After a bit, we lock the thread and start a new one so people aren't receiving notifications for the rest of their lives.

The idea: You know those tasks that are quick and really improve your day, but you avoid like the plague? This thread supports us to set press play on the song of our choice and move on that task for the duration of the song. Extra Challenge: Whenever we see this thread because someone has bumped it up with a new "go", whoever is on it stops what they're doing, and joins in.

Stuff one might improve, depending on personal circumstances:

*improve minimalism: scan stuff
*improve personal security: shred stuff
*improve environment: put dry dishes away
*improve mood: write a thank you note
*improve body: do pushups
*improve blood sugar: eat some protein
*improve ambience: put the thing back into the storage room
*improve foot happiness: vacuum one room
*improve stress load: wash one unmentionable
*improve floor smoothness: wash one section of floor

I was exhausted after a busy afternoon, but got myself back out of bed to do laundry (desperation status: no clean underwear left) with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5osBa1oI5ME

mspym but what will you listen to ;)

Slicey that's a fun one!  I'm going to listen & submit the last thread to the mods for locking.  Maybe it will motivate me to get up & scan the food in the pantry into my calorie tracking app.  Probably not, though.

Serendip  I love that song!

Was procrastinating cleaning out the vases throughout the house (dahlias, sunflowers drooping and dead)
No idea why this was being avoided so much but it's completed now.

The Boys of Summer: Don Henley

might play it again and see what momentum will help with
*switched to Sean Rowe as per @Dollar Slice 's previous recommendation

Completing a chore: listening to a CD to see if it's defective or skips!  Ha!  Right now it's Styx: Suite Madame Blue.  Only 4 more songs, so far no problems!

Yeah, lots of fun and good things, for sure! Just soooooooooooooooooo tired now. I think tomorrow has no appts, whew, and I think today is the last Thursday with five back-to-back events.

In the song above, I managed to stand frozen for the first half, then put some things away. A few more songs to put away the rest, put dishes to soak. Will ask kid to wash kitchen surfaces, then it's time for a nice movie and food for me!!

Excited! Have a whole day to just do my thing, with one brief drop-off then flexible pick-up for kid.
Super keen to hunker down to loads of paperwork.

Spotify discovery playlist, so whatever it makes the starting song.

Second step: Put each admin task on a post-it note, place on wall.

Awesome--congrats @joonifloofeefloo !

This morning I made my first 'to-do' list in ages, its not normally something I need but I've been slacking on some mandatory paperwork so experiencing low-grade stress about it.
Brian Eno: An Ending (Ascent) to calm nerves while re-visiting a course I need to complete asap.

*update: reviewed course, took exam, passed and submitted paperwork to necessary regulatory organization. Gosh, I'm glad that is done, not quite one song..about two hours worth but wuhoo!

Been on a morning walk in the woods w/DH1, lovely. Now to straighten the total mess house for he upcoming week, when we will have some visitors and DH will be travelling Wed-Fri. Lots to but can use most of the day, just need to keep the energy up.

Starting off with folding away some clean sheet, some paper bags and will then walk around the house to create a ToDo list.

When I came downstairs this morning, feeling super rough from a difficult night + tricky upcoming day, I was so delighted to find my downstairs sparkling. I forget when I do that, so I'm like having my own paid housekeeper :)   It makes such a difference to my happiness. So now I will put on one sing to do the few minutes of tidying needed to replicate that experience for the next a.m.

Step 1: Make a list of 10 things that cause cognitive overload in me (as identified to me by uni psychologist this week).

Yo-Yo Ma: Cello Suite #1

Step 2: Make list of things that do NOT cause cognitive overload in me

Yo-Yo Ma: Ave Maria

Step 3: Make list of ways to REDUCE cognitive overload in me

Something avant-garde to get me to attempt to fix the toilet which has been running on and off. It encapsulated the experience pretty well! (Current status: waiting to see if it starts running again)

Ha..unbelievable but I looked there is an album called The Toilet Bowl Singers so now I currently have the song "The Poop Song" playing after searching that.. and wish I did not. It's really really bad...their next song is called "Poop under my fingernails". Seriously

I'm back to copying CD's to my hard drive.  I get a song or two to play in the time it takes to rip one CD.  Excellent music, as I have the same taste (mostly) as Mr. X.  Sometimes I want the whole CD to play, but when I'm done I can listen to whatever I want, when I want....and not have 9 boxes of CD piled up in my living room!

Anyway, the whole project is very self-motivating.  Sooooo nice, as I have some projects that are more like pulling teeth.

Currently: Y&T - Rescue Me.

Big Lazy "Human Sacrifice" to get me up and doing some batch cooking. I don't know if I'll get it all done because my foot is swollen and sore, but I need to at least cook the chicken before it gets too far past the sell by date. Off I go!

Last night I got as far as cooking and dicing up half the chicken (and freezing the other half), and washing a huge sink full of dishes. Today I played "Revolt of the Yes Men" for a little pick me up to do the rest of the prep and cooking, and then washed the new dishes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0fuN3Dtp58

After I was done with all that, my foot was unhappy so I got out the ice packs and put my foot up while listening to "Queen of Denial" and putting some money in my IRA... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz6Yo-sxuWY  A bit of a mustachian-appropriate warning in the lyrics! Some folk think money is all that they need / Nothing but greenbacks for their souls to feed / Well, sure it can help, of this there's no doubt / But without some loving you're on your way out.

I love that you got several necessary things done, but most of all that you used the one-song system to rest/recover/heal :)
