One Song Wonder: Week 4
« on: August 08, 2018, 08:40:15 PM »
one song: one improvement [one week]
Thread Aug 9 - Aug 15

After one week, we lock the thread and start a new one so people aren't receiving notifications for the rest of their lives.

The idea: You know those tasks that are quick and really improve your day, but you avoid like the plague? This thread supports us to set press play on the song of our choice and move on that task for the duration of the song. Extra Challenge: Whenever we see this thread because someone has bumped it up with a new "go", whoever is on it stops what they're doing, and joins in.

Stuff one might improve, depending on personal circumstances:

*improve minimalism: scan stuff
*improve personal security: shred stuff
*improve environment: put dry dishes away
*improve mood: write a thank you note
*improve body: do pushups
*improve blood sugar: eat some protein
*improve ambience: put the thing back into the storage room
*improve foot happiness: vacuum one room
*improve stress load: wash one unmentionable
*improve floor smoothness: wash one section of floor

PTF!

Listening to my friend's jazz radio show on Radio Free Brooklyn and getting a little rest. https://radiofreebrooklyn.com/

Edit: Also drinking water because apparently I have low blood volume... (LOL)

Tried to update this in the last thread but it was locked!

Pumped Up Kicks mash-up and getting out of the office for a walk in the sunshine at lunchtime.

lol, I couldn't think through time and date zones. It occurred to me that I might be the last to reach August 9, so locked it at what I hoped was a reasonable compromise given all our locations :)

I think this series has gotten me into really good habits. Tonight I sang a song in my head while washing only the dishes that seemed ridiculously ready to be done, like the pot and cutting board left across the surfaces post-dinner and a paint brush from my evening's art therapy. (Smaller items in the washing tub that rests in a corner, I left for a bigger round tomorrow.) Four minutes of washing the obvious and all the surfaces made for a lovely kitchen.

When maintenance suggested popping in spontaneously this afternoon, I realized with surprise that I had a "perfect" place on view! A happy result of the "one song" activity.

^ Oh thank goodness. Those bananas have been needing doing for days. That part took probably under 90 seconds, yeesh! But I used the time to also:

*process all other fresh produce
*convert fridge leftovers into a day camp lunch for kid
*set dishes to soak
*set garbage and compost by door

Was about to pass on the challenge today since I am fatigued and overheating..but Spotify recommended Notion by Tash Sultana,
I got dishes washed, recycling put away, tea pot cleaned up and counters washed :)

This challenge could be called the One Song Wonder

I've been almost entirely immobile all day. Literally! I did do a bunch of work from bed, nuked one meal, and showered, but that's it. I was tired, and have had two bouts of a "one hour cold" the last 36 hours.

But Serendip's action and results have inspired me. I'll borrow her last song -funny because that is literally what I've done today- to do a mellow tidy starting NOW :)

*put away all of last immobility shift's stuff
*replenished all bedside supplies
*brought next batch of work stuff over, so I can do them without moving
*got and ate a snack :)
*at door, lined up tomorrow's supplies
*prompted kid to address his kitchen stuff
*wrote out for kid his schedule for tomorrow
*put away my toys
*sorted laptop cord for full bedaccessibility

I'm noticing a trend--I always seem to have dishes that *could* be done whenever this post pops up. perhaps I'll try doing them after using so that I can stretch myself in other ways.
but now I shall go scrub my Vitamix..

I stack my dishes in a small washing tub and wash when that's full (generally every day-and-a-half; kid washes his own as he goes). But I've had about 36 hours of pure rest, and it's time to test my baby deer legs, so will now copycat your song and action :)

I desperately need to do dishes, myself, but... not tonight. :-)

I put on Joe Henry's album "Civilians" to do some middle-of-the-night cooking since I needed to use up the food I bought on Wednesday before it went bad (or badder, anyway, that bell pepper was getting a little sad-looking).

Now making myself drink a bunch of water and get ready for bed with "Hobo's Lullaby"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxHQk9-zZWw

Set spotify to Courtney Barnett radio and worked our way through meal prep
- poaching & shredding chicken breasts
- corn, bean & pepper salad
- marinated flank steak
- pork shoulder in the pressure cooker for carnitas (if we can be bothered) or pulled pork (if we can't)
So that's lunches and dinners set for the next few days. Boys can take meat in bread rolls for lunch, we'll take meat + salad. The pork or chicken can go in tortillas or ramen for dinner. Time to chill out.

Oh, THAT'S joe henry! I've been a cuckoo Bragg fan for over 30 years and sing that song. I just never knew who JH was, despite hearing and seeing this many times. You saw "Someone Who Has Sung With BB!"

Hobo's Lullaby (because the Mexican Klezmer band was cool & DS used a convenient link)

And I'll set up another batch of digital pictures to download.

Haven't done the dishes yet but am going to listen to this one to get dressed to go out for a walk. Exhausted and feeling a little ill today (weekly medication adjustment) but it'll be nice to be outside. I think it's about to start raining and that will feel nice too. (Although I'm not 100% sure my shoes are dry from yesterday... my shoes and socks were wet for so long that my feet were wrinkled like your fingers get after taking a long bath :-S )

Patrick Swayze "She's Like the Wind"

I *am* going to tackle the dishes, since I made a new sink full today cooking for all three meals.

W0w--good one! The Dirty Dancing soundtrack was such a big part of my childhood. In fact, I will put that on as I go make bed up with clean sheets and tidy up the kitchen.

I feel like I don't know how to keep my space lovely while I'm painting a whole room. I did manage to remove everything from it, recycle a couple of items and properly sort and store the rest, but the small collection of paint supplies + laundry cart and vacuum temporarily living in my main space are making me think everything has to be out of sorts? Not so!!

Tighten Up - The Black Keys

*put floor bed away properly
*moved laundry cart to upstairs spare room until painting done
*moved painting clothes to Paint room
*nuked a tiny meal
*stacked loose papers into one pile
*recycled water bottle
*put out full bottle
*hung clothes
*replaced gym clothes
*stacked dishes
*washed pot
*swept hall/kitchen/dining floor

Have been feeling overwhelmed about how I might tackle a tricky in-wall device that likely hasn't been cleaned since it was installed, many many years ago. Feels like a Once In A Lifetime Opportunity to really get at it. So at the start of the next song -whatever shows up on Spotify- I'm going to tackle it with a toothbrush, Comet, and q-tip, see how far it all gets...

HA! :)))))

It came up so clean! Lots of effort + addition of Magic Eraser for final layer. Got dead bugs out, worked through every teeny corner. Transformed from "smoker's yellow" to "70s's cream".

Wow, good going Jooni!  Cleaning stuff like that always makes me feel so satisfied.

Well, here we are 26 hours later and that last batch of pictures is still in process! 103 done out of 115 makes me have hope it will be done by morning.  In the mean time:

Talk Talk "It's My Life" (far superior to Gwen Stephani's version IMNSHO) - had to bring work home...go!

I hope you don't mind, I copied your intro post. I can make it "mine" if you ask. Just need to get some time and a different device (laptop, not tablet).
