May 2019 Goals
« on: May 01, 2019, 09:14:18 AM »
Continuing on the trend from previous months' threads.

My goals will be a little bit different than last time, this is my vacation month (two separate trips) so I am going to have a little mixture of goals:

1. Reach 1200 unique beers checked in on Untappd (current: 1078)
2. Read "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham
3. Read "Eight Minute Meditation" and review coursework on functional breathing
4. Save $1500 after-tax this month
5. Increase bodyweight to 183# (current: 182#)
6. Reach "Paris" on Duolingo French module
7. Complete interventions section on Monograph

Wishing everyone a happy May!

My goals are basically a continuation of last month's... keeping up some habits and working on some longer-term goals:

1. Average 13,353 steps a day.
2. Exercise 3 x 20 minutes every week for a total of 14 sessions.
3. Save $1400.
4. Send pumpkin and Paradyne.
5. De-clutter 30 new things.
6. Do Significant Work on at least one craft project.

I have failed monthly challenges in the past, so I'm going to keep the bar low this month.

1. Track mileage driven
2. Dedicate 5 hours to learning SQL

4. Absolute must do, get the plumbing fixed and sink support attached.
5. Re-paint kitchen cabinets - one at a time:), I can do this.

6. Continue with garden projects... did a ton in April - four more to go.
Tree removal - site leveling - paint and set up gate - complete side garden path.

7. Complete and install bottle art project and maybe garden art piece and mosaic fountain...

Goals for May 2019

1. Spend at least 2-4 hours a day on decluttering and re-organizing studio/shed, the study and kitchen. Had success in April - need to continue in May. - Turns out to be more like nothing one day and all day the next day as well as small projects - like clearing out a drawer. ON TRACK!
2. Save $1487 - succeeded in April - will continue in May:). - Savings scheduled for May 15 - DONE!
3. Find or design - or DIY a new kitchen light. Just haven't found the right solution - yet.

4. Absolute must do, get the plumbing fixed and sink support attached. - Amazon delivered the sink support - plumbing on hold, partially fixed.
5. Re-paint kitchen cabinets - one at a time:), I can do this. - Picking up paint today -

6. Continue with garden projects... did a ton in April - four more to go.
Tree removal - site leveling - paint and set up gate - complete side garden path.

7. Complete and install bottle art project and maybe garden art piece and mosaic fountain...

Progress:) - see red comments above.

Hope to get more done in the next few days. I think I'll go out and continue to paint the garden gate today - that project has been lingering for over a year - I'm so over it, but I know it will look oh so good when all done.

2. Exercise 3 x 20 minutes every week for a total of 14 sessions. On track.
3. Save $1400. Not ramping up ridiculous debt or anything, so... on track to put money in from this month's paychecks. ;))
4. Send pumpkin and Paradyne. Made an appointment for this weekend to do it. Maybe I'll actually do it if my calendar orders me to.
5. De-clutter 30 new things. One thing selected, and an array of clothing-stuff has been selected as potentials.
6. Do Significant Work on at least one craft project. I'm already almost halfway through a baby blanket, that counts as significant work imo. ;)

May Goals

1. $1,500 principal to car loan $500/1000
SNIP

Good going tnrunner!
I paid $300 on the principal sum of the car loan in April for the first time and again this May - somehow that feels so much more satisfying than simply making a car payment only.
I was making a couple of extra car payments as well, but mathematically speaking I'm sure this is much better, although I like knowing that I'm paid up through August too.
Four more of those principal payments and I'll give myself the X-mas present of a paid off car this year:)

1. Reach 1200 unique beers checked in on Untappd (start: 1078)
Made it to 1182. Will definitely hit 1200 before the end of the month with a couple brewery trips planned and a trip to Hawaii
2. Read "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham
One chapter read. Pretty far behind.
3. Read "Eight Minute Meditation" and review coursework on functional breathing
Haven't started
4. Save $1500 after-tax this month
Surprisingly on track.
5. Increase bodyweight to 183# (current: 182#)
Not sure, haven't weighed in this month. I would expect that I've lost weight though.
6. Reach "Paris" on Duolingo French module
Haven't done any French yet
7. Complete interventions section on Monograph
Haven't started

Yikes.. slow start to the month! First 6 days of the month were spent on Vacation in Denver, got to try a lot of new beers and had a great (expensive) time. Should be a calm next 2 weeks to be productive before leaving for Hawaii at the end of the month!

1. Reach 1200 unique beers checked in on Untappd (start: 1078)
Reached 1204, with the Hawaii trip still to come
2. Read "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham
Three chapters in, very behind. But upcoming flight to/from Hawaii so lots of time to read.
3. Read "Eight Minute Meditation" and review coursework on functional breathing
Haven't started, brought paper copy to beach to read
4. Save $1500 after-tax this month
Very much on track.
5. Increase bodyweight to 183# (current: 182#)
Still haven't stepped on the scale.
6. Reach "Paris" on Duolingo French module
One lesson completed this month so far
7. Complete interventions section on Monograph
Still haven't started

This is turning out to be a pretty bad month for me goal-wise, but I knew it would be tough with trips and vacations. Still, no excuse. Hopefully I can turn the ship around at the end of the month and be able to cross some off.

3. Save $1400. $1000 saved. Should be able to get at least $400 out of the paycheck on the 31st.
4. Send pumpkin and Paradyne. I suck.
5. De-clutter 30 new things. Four things officially on list, and I'm starting to feel the itch to go through my closet more.
6. Do Significant Work on at least one craft project. I'm already almost halfway through a baby blanket, that counts as significant work imo. ;)

1. Reach 1200 unique beers checked in on Untappd (start: 1078)
Finished the month with 1232, so just over 150 new beers this month. For those concerned, most are flight size (4-5oz), I really enjoy trying and rating a lot of different craft beers
2. Read "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham
Did a lot of reading on the plane, managed to finish.
3. Read "Eight Minute Meditation" and review coursework on functional breathing
Brought it to Hawaii, never read it. Too much beauty around
4. Save $1500 after-tax this month
Saved $1967. Very happy.
5. Increase bodyweight to 183# (current: 182#)
Amazing. After 2 vacations, a lot of beer and good feed, stayed the exact same at 182#. I just can't gain weight if I'm not lifting in the gym consistently
6. Reach "Paris" on Duolingo French module
12 lessons short. Very pathetic work ethic on my part for this in May. Will reassess for June
7. Complete interventions section on Monograph
Didn't start this at all. Moving it to June

3/7.. yikes. Not a very mustachian month all around. I should have a pretty good Mustachian month in June, and hopefully a great one in July. Good work everyone on your May goals, thanks for sharing!!

Results:

1. Earn and save a decent amount. Best month so far, and savings rate is really high, too.
2. Do the 5BX challenge every day (starting tomorrow, the 3rd). Only skipped one day all month!
3. Learn something new related to my job. I need to hone my skills. Did not do this.. will have to add to June's list.
4. Take one really nice long bike ride, preferably out of London. Well, I cycled to my friends' house, which is quite far out. Kind of counts.

[/s]1. Average 13,353 steps a day.
2. Exercise 3 x 20 minutes every week for a total of 14 sessions.
3. Save $1400. $600 saved -- had a $1200 car repair this month that we cashflowed. I am choosing to be SO HAPPY that I have a high enough salary to cashflow something like that.
4. Send pumpkin and Paradyne. Nope.
5. De-clutter 30 new things. Nope. Five things only.
6. Do Significant Work on at least one craft project.
