I posted back in February about my injury and needing to lose weight.
I didn’t get serious until May 5th.

When I checked in in February I weighted 151.7lbs. May 5th I logged 150.7 in my LoseIt App.

Today 5/23 I am at 144.6 lbs down 6.1 pounds in 18 days.

I have been logging my food, eating much healthier meals, drinking more water, and making sure I get my walks or bike rides in. The nicer weather also allows me to get lost for hours in my gardens doing yardwork.

If I can lose another 6 lbs before my vacation on 2/8 I would be thrilled, but it is likely unrealistic!

Spent the past week on vacation fishing in Canada, which meant a week of sitting in a boat and drinking beer (although not simultaneously). Up a couple pounds but given the activities (or lack thereof) I was doing, I'm ok with that. Gotta get back in the groove now! Over the next few weeks I'm planning on exclusively biking to/from work (about 4.5 miles each way) so that should help!

Started Keto the day after the superbowl (Feb 4).  I usually crash and burn on diets within 2 weeks... I'm 3.5 weeks in and show no sign of stopping keto!

5'10. Male. 28.

Starting weight: 193.5
Goal weight: 175
Holy shit I'm stunned goal weight: 165

2/4/2019: 193.5
2/11/2019: 189.4
2/18/2019: 186.7
2/25/2019: 186.1

Total: 7.4 pounds (2.47 pounds per week on average).

I did touch 184 for a day... I'm trying to only focus on what I weigh on Monday (I dunno, for consistencies sake).  Trying to focus on the mental health side of dieting and working out.... I'm optimistic this is going to stick long term and be a lifestyle, not a diet!

Update:

3/4/2019 182.5
3/11/2019 180.2
3/18/2019 179.3
3/25/2019 179.3
4/1/2019 177
4/8/2019 176.8
FELL OFF WAGON FOR 3 WEEKS (I switched jobs and moved.  Stressful.  Excuses)
4/26/2019 183
5/8/2019 180.4
5/14/2019 178
5/20/2019 176.2
5/27/2019 175.2

.2 pounds from hitting goal weight :)

Oh so slow and steady! I worked really hard in the last few days to get the last off that kg off and to my surprise this morning I made it. I've started doing strength training at the gym so I may also have lost more fat and put on muscle.. This month I'm celebrating:
-over 10% of body weight lost
-10kg lost

@ItsALongStory Nope.  I'm going to shoot for the "holy shit I'm stunned goal weight" of 165 :)  Celebrating this weekend with a... 48 hour fast!

I haven't been 175 since 2013.  Haven't been 165 since 2010.  At the same time... I'm going to try to focus more on gaining muscle, rather than losing weight.  BMI still considers me overweight.

So yeah... I want to keep going... Most importantly I want to maintain.  I can't go back.

My goal for the end of the year is somewhere between maintaining my weight and losing 20-25(ish) lbs.  Google tells me the top end of a healthy weight for my height is 140 lbs, even when I was in the best shape of my life (played very competitive soccer and volleyball in high school, with weight lifting) I was pretty steadily in the 145 range.

Historical weights
7/2017: 200 lbs (6 weeks pregnant)
03/23/18: 215 lbs (40 weeks pregnant)
04/03/18: 192.8 lbs
05/06/18: 181.2 lbs
06/14/18: 172.8 lbs
08/06/18: 168.8 lbs
09/21/18: 165.4 lbs
10/07/18: 162.2 lbs
12/07/18: 157.? lbs

2019 log in
01/09/19: 161.6 lbs
02/01/19: 160.0 lbs
03/07/19: 157.3 lbs
04/01/19: 157.2 lbs
05/02/19: 157.4 lbs
05/21/19: 155.4 lbs

I wish I saw this 2 months ago.

I decided to lose 20 lbs about 2 months ago. I hit my goal this morning. 175lbs.

Data:
3/31: 195  (The most I have ever weighed, shocked me into action.)
4/3: 190.2 (Probably an unhealthy speed of decline at first.)
4/6: 187.0
4/9: 185.3
4/12: 186.6
4/15: 186.6
4/18: 185.2
4/21: 183.7
4/24: 183.3
4/27: 182.9
4/30: 182.6
5/3: 180.7
5/6: 184.5  (I found after intense exercise, like hiking 10 miles on a strenuous trail, my weight would actually go up from all the water I drank.)
5/9: 181.6 (Luckily, that water weight falls back off fast.)
5/12: 181.0
5/15: 180.2
5/18: 179.8
5/21: 181.6
5/24: 179.2
5/27: 178.5
5/30: 176.5
6/3: 175.4
6/4: 175!!!!!

Looking at the data, the first 10 pounds were easy, the next 10 took much longer.

Process:  I switched to a primarily plant whole foods based diet. I only eat meat about twice a week now. Now I'm so used to it that I actually prefer the plant based diet unless it's a special occasion and I'm eating something really nice like quality steak. I already exercise daily and hike a lot so I didn't make any major changes there.

Haven't posted in a couple of months but still grappling with the same 5-7 pounds I'm always fighting.

Have decided to focus on eating MORE good things, instead of eating less in general. Have been doing the daily dozen challenge for almost a month and finally feel like I'm making progress. Haven't weighed myself in two weeks but feeling less bloated and "puffy" in general.

Of the 26 days I've done the challenge so far, I've only hit my goal two days (it is really hard to get everything in!). But I can tell how much healthier my diet is, in general.

Elaine, the diet bet you’re doing has inspired me.  Am joining you on HealthyWage (I used your referral link).  I think this might help me a lot with sticking to my plan - I *can* lose weight by tracking calories, but my problem in the past has been that eventually I get tired of all the tracking before I’ve actually made that much progress, plus I don’t feel enough of a sense of urgency about it (…tomorrow is another day and all that).  Whereas this imposes a real $$ deadline I have to take seriously, lol.

Also surprised by how strong my sense of loss aversion is when I think about not getting back the money I put into HealthyWage.  Clearly I am financially motivated, surprise surprise.  :)

After six months of religiously tracking calories, I hope all that practice will make it easier to stick with it as an ongoing habit, so that I can succeed with long-term maintenance (otherwise I know I’m just going to drift back upward again).

Ice cream is my biggest weakness.  So tempting if it’s sitting there in the freezer!  I don’t think I can entirely cut it out (not if I want a plan I can really stick to long term), but maybe I can put a moratorium on buying it at the grocery store and have a rule that I am allowed to go out for ice cream no more than monthly.  There is a Coldstone ice cream shop about twenty steps from my workplace, a convenience that is at once both wonderful and terrible.

However, I am *not* losing $600 to HealthyWage, so.  Take that, Coldstone!

Bumped back up to 221.7 after an 11 day trip home, but back on our healthy eating and weighed in at 220 this morning which is up 2lbs from my lowest weight pre-trip. Initial goal remains 208 then I will reassess but likely it will be 199.

Really haven't been paying a lot of attention to my food habits but my improved exercise habits are keeping me at my current weight range. Just weighed in at 217.5. Need to get back on the healthier diet so I can drop those next 10lbs.

I somehow missed this post :( So you were the mysterious referral! I was wondering. How are you doing with things now that you are a few weeks in?

As for me, my final weigh in is next Sunday. As of this morning, I am ONE pound from goal weight! Sooooo close.

I ended up already spending my HealthyWage winnings lol - a great deal popped up a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't resist. So now I MUST win this thing.

I am going a bit extreme right now to ditch the final pound. This way I don't have to worry as I have social meals planned on July 1 and on July 6. I am doing a 2 day water fast. I have fasted for as much as 30 hours before and aside from hunger pangs here and there, find it quite manageable. It sure curbs the snacking haha! If I hit my goal weight after 24 hrs, I will likely end my fast early.

I am also developing some itty bitty muscles in my arms - so very exciting after almost 6 months of aquafit classes. I think finally I have less fat to hide it lol. It's been fun buying new clothes.

Now I have to decide if I want to keep losing. I have hit 130lbs (my HealthyWage goal weight is 129.2lbs). This will be the lowest I have been for many years. I could easily stand to lose another 5-10lbs (probably even 20 lol) as I am still quite padded so got to think about it. I do feel good at this weight so maybe this is enough.

I DID IT!!!! 8 days before my 6 month deadline, I lost TWENTY FIVE POUNDS!!!

So happy I did the HealthyWage thing or I would have given up a few pounds ago. Putting my money where my mouth was made a huge difference. Best of all, I am leaner, fitter, and ready to face my 40s!

If anyone is interested in HealthyWage, we both get a referral bonus if you sign up via my link: https://hwage.co/574832/ (we each get $40 added to our prize money). This week, my referral bonus is boosted to $100 so it would be a rather sweet add-on to my prize money if you use my link ;)

I thought I tried pretty hard again this month but my body wasn't paying along. The lowest weight I logged in the month was 85.9, but I bounced back up over 86 after that. I lacked the steely focus in the last week to completely stick to the necessary restrictions to drop down any further. I'm trying to console myself with the thought that its the first month since I started this journey, that I haven't lost. Also, I didn't exactly gain much - within the usual fluctuations I get day to day.

It's hard to keep up that steely focus. I hit some rough patches and it was so hard to get back into it. I ended doing a 1 day water fast, dropped 2 lbs and that got the ball rolling again.

It's hard to keep up that steely focus. I hit some rough patches and it was so hard to get the ball rolling again. I ended doing a 1 day water fast, dropped 2 lbs and that got the ball rolling again.

So true!

There is some evidence that losing a kilo or two quickly, then staying stable stops some of those severe craving responses that are fundamentally hormonally driven. And if you’ve been limiting intake and then get those severe cravings you should eat ad libitum of healthy food until you are satisfied and they pass ie you turn of your bodies starvation response.  So I have more or less been using this technique, and its more or less worked. Until now, when I just couldn’t muster up the focus.

My problem is those darn cravings are never for healthy food! I am still trying to convince my body that fruit is a delicious, decadent, luxurious treat that is suitable for soothing bad moods.

On the good side, I have fallen in love with nibbling slowly on frozen mango chunks. And I actually crave them these days. So that's a win :)

Been a crazy busy week. DH decided to throw me a 40th birthday party and we have been going nuts preparing the house, backyard and food for 40+ ppl. Long story short, I haven't been able to do my daily 2hr workouts. But I still dropped a pound this week! Prob too much nervous energy lol. Plus no time to sit on my butt and snack.

Just 5lbs to go to get to my next goal of 123lbs!

August 2018: 236.8
December 31: 198.8
January 31: 191.8
February 28th: 189.2
March 31st: 184
April 30th: 179.8
May 31st: 173.2
June 29th: 168.2

I finally got myself into the 160s! Woohoo!

And then I went on vacation and promptly gained 5 lbs. At one point, I was up 7 lbs. Meanwhile, my DH, who has been eating the same as I have and has been walking the same amount (an average of 15,000 steps each day), has managed to drop 5 lbs. I’m not liking him very much right now 😝 We still have another week or so of vacation. My goal is to maintain my weight until the vacation is over.

May 12th - 135.6 lbs
May 22nd - 134 lbs
June 14th - 130.8 lbs
July 7th - 129.0 lbs

4 lbs to go to pre-pregnancy weight! I do think I'm gonna have to do a bit more than just breastfeed to get the rest of the weight off. Plus I hope to lose an additional 5 lbs or so.

@Goinganon Like @Sun hat said, most of that is water weight. A couple of days of light eating and a lot of that will drop off. Soooo exciting to see the 160s though! Think how far you have come in a year!!

@Sun Hat Congrats on getting back on the bandwagon! It's not always easy to get back on and keep making healthy choices.

@lizh YOU CAN DO IT!! So much of it is getting in the right headspace.

@turketron maintaining for so long is an achievement in itself!

I am very seriously considering doing another HealthyWage thing. I wanted to do a small scale Dietbet but they only offer two options - 4lbs in 1 month or 10% in 6 months. HealthWage offers a personal jackpot to lose 6% over 3 months. Which is exactly what I want to do. I just want to lose a little bit more but want a more realistic timeframe as I have a few vacations planned this summer. My plan is to do my starting weigh in after I get back from my 5 day Nashville trip next week (I'll have a bit of extra weight from sodium and southern cooking!)

I somehow missed this post :( So you were the mysterious referral! I was wondering. How are you doing with things now that you are a few weeks in?

I'm pretty much on track!  And feeling optimistic about seeing this through all the way.

Congratulations on meeting your HealthyWage goal, Elaine!!  I am looking forward to doing that too.  :)

I've been counting calories and getting into more of an exercise groove.  I'm not interested in short-lived changes...whatever I do in this area needs to be sustainable for me in the long term, and not feel like a sacrifice...so I *am* actually including things like occasional ice cream in the calorie budget.  So far so good.

A few days ago a friend decided to get into more of a gym routine too, so we've been starting to go to the gym together to do weight training.  She has done that before, but I've always stuck to the cardio-type machines, so this is a new thing for me (and she's rusty, so our levels match pretty well).  It's nice to have a gym buddy!  We'll do that two or three times a week, and I will keep going with my running program on my own.  I'm doing Couch to 10K, and at this point "running" is a rather exaggerated descriptor of the slowww jog I'm doing, lol.  But I am quite pleased with my progress with that.  I'll get there eventually!

...I suppose I might actually admit to some numbers here, hah.

2019-06-10: 229 lbs
2019-07-01: 225 lbs
2019-07-19: 221 lbs

I'm tall for a woman, 5'9, so ultimately I'd like to get under 170 lbs and actually hit a healthy BMI range for me.  Maybe I can get there in a year - theoretically should happen if I stick to my one-pound-a-week goal*.  I've never weighed less than 215 lbs as an adult, so this will be a major life change.

*I'm deliberately overshooting that goal a bit right now...a twelve-day vacation in Thailand is coming up in August, and I'm not calorie counting while I'm there!  Also definitely have plans to eat much delicious Thai food with zero regrets.  :P

@snowball it sounds like you are getting into a really good routine! Love that u have a gym buddy. It took me insanely lomg to see some muscle but now that I do, it's really exciting. A little addictive even. Yesterday I spent 45 mins running in the pool with water weights - that is surprisingly a LOT of arm work.

It's amazing how u can get your body conditioned for running. 3 years ago, I couldn't even run more than half a block! Then I did this XBX program at home that ended with one minute of slow running on the spot. The speed very very gradually increased over the months. Then all of a sudden, I could do a super, super slow jog for 15 minutes! Now I can run at a slow, but more "normal" pace (4.5miles/hr) for 30-45 mins. One time for an hour! I don't run too often (worried about overstressing my knees) but I add it to my routine about 1-2 times a week. Mostly just for the satisfaction of saying I CAN DO IT!

I have decided to drop another 10 lbs. Was looking for a Dietbet/Healthy Wage thing but nothing fit my parameters or timeline. I would love to make some money off something I want to do anyway. I almost did a 6 month Dietbet but it ends in mid January. Right after a lengthy 2.5 week Christmas trip. Just not a great idea. Although maybe it will keep me honest haha!

Trips do a number on me though. I just spent 5 days in Nashville and gained 3 lbs (1 lb was water weight that dropped off). The next month is going to be a bit more challenging for weight loss so maintaining is what I am aiming for. Then active losing starting in mid-September after yet another trip.

I have really gotten into the habit of daily workouts though which is kinda cool. I don't even do it for weightloss anymore (it doesn't help that much anyway lol). Even on vacation, I manage to do something active for 1-2hrs most days. If all else fails (like it did last week), I squeeze in at least half an hour in the gym. Basically, while everyone else took an afternoon break, I was "running" on the elliptical lol.

Great progress by everyone here!!

Started my journal (The Wallet and Waistline plan) here on forums to start keeping myself accountable, but going to start tracking here in more detail on the weight front.
Trying to lose weight to, of course, be healthier - but also to get to normal-ish BMI so I can get term life insurance that isn't stupid expensive.  Have one kid and second one on the way and I need to get a decent 25-30 year term life policy soon.

Some changes I've made so far and/or motivational goals:
  • I'm using HealthyWage and DietBets to keep me motivated.  I'm doing two "transformer" bets on DietBet and three different HealthyWage bets.
  • Weighing myself weekly if not twice a week.
  • r/ProgressPics and r/LoseIt on reddit are also helpful for motivation.
  • Switched to pretty much only water as beverage of choice, no cream in the coffee.  Pound water all day long.  Yogurt/berries for breakfast.  Working on only eating leftovers for lunch and/or healthy lunches out (Salata or grilled chicken sandwhich at Chic Fil A), healthier dinners.
  • Gym during lunch break and/or cycling on weekend.  900 calorie move goal on my Apple Watch - trying to break 1200+ "move" calories on weekends (yesterday was 1800 calories on Apple Watch).
  • Was tracking on MyFitnessPal for a few weeks to "reset" my understanding of calories.  Now I just track periodically to keep myself under 1900 calorie intake goal and not as religiously.
  • Trying to hit 10,000 steps daily but not making this a firm goal -- taking a walk during a 10 minute break on work hours and walking the dog 1-2x a week, but nothing crazy on this front.
  • Once I get to under 240 lbs (roughly the "obese" limit at my height), I plan to make a "deal" with my brother that if I ever get over 240 lbs and stay there for more than one month, I'll pay $5,000 into my niece's college fund.  Gives me monetary motivation to keep my weight under 240 lbs (once I get there) and the "punishment" is helping my niece.

Male - Height 6' 2"

Current Goal - 250 lbs by end of 2019
Ultimate Goal - 195 lbs (top of healthy BMI on the "new" BMI calculator)

Dec 2018       - ~310.0 lbs.
June 16, 2019 -  293.8 lbs.  (really started working on weight)
July 22, 2019  -  276.0 lbs.

Wow...you sure are engineering your weight loss! Keep up with your plans and I think you'll definitely reach your goals.

As for me, after I met my goal of 129lbs, I went on a 5 day trip to Nashville where I proceeded to gorge on good 'ole Southern cookin'!!

Came home to a 3lb gain that thankfully peeled off by the end of the week. I am away again on a camping trip but really hoping I won't put on too much weight this week. Am staying very active which should help. Although tonight I ate a giant dinner and still continued snacking!

My goal for the end of the year is somewhere between maintaining my weight and losing 20-25(ish) lbs.  Google tells me the top end of a healthy weight for my height is 140 lbs, even when I was in the best shape of my life (played very competitive soccer and volleyball in high school, with weight lifting) I was pretty steadily in the 145 range.

Historical weights
7/2017: 200 lbs (6 weeks pregnant)
03/23/18: 215 lbs (40 weeks pregnant)
04/03/18: 192.8 lbs
05/06/18: 181.2 lbs
06/14/18: 172.8 lbs
08/06/18: 168.8 lbs
09/21/18: 165.4 lbs
10/07/18: 162.2 lbs
12/07/18: 157.? lbs

2019 log in
01/09/19: 161.6 lbs
02/01/19: 160.0 lbs
03/07/19: 157.3 lbs
04/01/19: 157.2 lbs
05/02/19: 157.4 lbs
05/21/19: 155.4 lbs

06/03/19: 154.2 lbs
07/20/19: 159.4 lbs

It has been a really stressful May/June/July and now I am switching jobs, so "add a little more stress to that plate full of stress please".  I am hoping around the middle/end of Aug, when the kids are back in school and the new job is past the 1st couple of weeks stage, that I can get into a running/working out routine.  The new job offers an on-site gym and a flexible schedule so I have high hopes that both my physical and mental/emotional well-being will really start to make a drastic improvement. I am however, happy that the added stress (and crappy food choices that go along with that) have not pushed me over the Jan starting weight.  I did originally say that my goal was somewhere between maintaining and losing 20-25 lbs so I guess I am still on track... the losing would be really awesome though.

Okay, 80kg this morning. That means I gained back 13 kg not 15 which is great but still 13 kg or 26 (german) pounds to many.

Could not get myself to loose the weight earlier this year but I am committed now.

Started last week eating glutenfree, few carbohydrates ( fruit) and trying for 70% waterrich.

7/23  81 kg
7/30 79,4 kg

I found determination after being diagnosed with the second auto immune disease and also have an 8 week trip to Namibia coming up.
Other than biking and walking I have not exercised much so far.

218.4 as of this morning, frustrated by my lack of Strava progress on my bike so I have set another goal of 200lbs by end of September. Going to be super tough but I can do it if I continue working out like I can and eat more consciously.

Congrats!!

I have been more or less maintaining since winning my HealthyWage bet a month ago. I go up a little, lose a little, and now am about 1.5lbs above my low. Pretty good considering I have had 2 big parties, 2 different 5 day vacations, and not one, but two family reunion weekend. All in one month!

I am thinking of starting a Dietbet tonight to commit to lose 5 lbs in August. Quite a challenge since I don't know what is ahead of me this month but it will force me to stay focused and get back to my diet mode.

Just joined several 3 dietbets (two $25 and one $10 for a total of $60) that last for 4 weeks (lose 4% in 4 weeks). And also did a 3 month HealthyWage Personal Challenge for another $60 (lose 6% in 3 months). Contemplating a 6 month Transformer Dietbet which will take me to my new goal weight. This one would cost $175 so I am mulling it over. It all seems a bit much but it's kinda nice to make money from something I already plan to do. Plus it really does get my butt moving.

For those who have done/are doing a Healthy Wage Bet, what do you use to show the date if you don’t get a newspaper? I’m considering doing one, but can’t think of what to use as proof of the date.

Less than a pound from prepregnancy weight. I will hopefully hit this within the next week then my goal will be to get to 115lbs. I'll need to start actively doing something to get there instead of just relying on breastfeeding.

It was down to 164 last week. Damn PMS. But the good news is that I’m down 70 lbs in one year and I’ve managed to keep it going down, for the most part. I still have another 25 lbs or so to go.

For those who have done/are doing a Healthy Wage Bet, what do you use to show the date if you don’t get a newspaper? I’m considering doing one, but can’t think of what to use as proof of the date.
I used another phone open to the New York Times website clearly showing the date. They have quite clear instructions on how to do this one their site :)

Also, for anyone considering HealthyWage, if you sign up before Sept 12, the referral bonus is $100 instead of the normal $40 (I get $60).  This is the first time I have seen it bumped up so high this year. If you know someone on HealthyWage, ask them. If not, my code is https://hwage.co/574832/

And I was so thrilled it was actually legit - I lost 25lbs, got the check and banked it and everything!

I am in the middle of a 3 month challenge now and it's continuing to motivate me to keep on going, which is great. I keep getting tempted to say "good enough" . But having money on the line has forced me to keep plugging away.

This plateau is my home now, apparently. Been hovering mostly around 143-144lbs, the lowest being 141.8 but I can never seem to get below that! Not that I'm complaining, I've still lost (and kept off) about 20 pounds overall.

U have done amazing! But still it is annoying to plateau especially when you have been expecting for the weight to keep dropping off. On the other hand, it means u now know how to maintain :) :)

The last couple of plateaus, only having some kind of dietbet on the line has forced me to break past it.

I have also been doing some form of intermittent fasting - mostly for convenience (most of the time, I skip breakfast - which allows me more calories for after dinner snacks).  And sometimes a 24-36hr fast is just what I need to break a plateau and get me going again. I have grown used to fasting every now and then and don't find it particularly difficult.
