Living within $1000 in February 2017
« on: January 30, 2017, 09:23:02 AM »
I started doing something like for January. My goal was to live within $2000. Well...let's just say that didn't go according to plan. I ended up spending $128,363.51. I paid off my house!

Because we are not fully in control of what life throws at us, I decided I am going to target specific categories. So for February, here is the budget I came up with. This is going to be my first attempt at a realistic budget. If I stay within this limit, I consider it a huge win for me because this means that we can live within one paycheck.

With that said, here is the budget -

Allowence - $80
Cell Phone - $110
Cleaning Supplies - $10
Clothing - $20
Eat out - $20
Fuel - $20
Groceries - $200
Haircut - $20
Internet - $55
Personal Care - $10
Tag Renewal - $100
Tax File - $50
Utilities - $200
Total - $895

I realize that I did not have a number for medical related issues there. We are blessed with good health, so I am being optimistic here. Also, this budget does not include some important categories such as property tax and home owners insurance. I will work on that in my next iteration of the budget.

I spent a total of $82 today on food, allowance, and household items.

I think we are going to be good for about a week. I am going to make an effort to not buy anything online. There is this excellent Corsair keyboard I want to buy, but I am holding off. If I do a good job this month, I am going to give myself a birthday gift.

So far, we are on track!

I responded previously to your "Living within $2000" thread with my own goal of living within $1300 per month.  I met that last month, somewhat surprisingly, with a total expenditure of $1135 in January, so I'd like to join your challenge for this month and see if I can shave off that remaining hundred or so dollars and stay beneath $1000 as well.

Good luck! I am planning to buy a mechanical keyboard next month with the money I save this month. I hope I succeed!

I am up to $96.96 at the moment. I've got 3.5 weeks to go!

Good luck to you too!  I've been having a bit of a spendy month so far (friend's birthdays, seeing off parties, lost items etc.) but hoping to not buy anything but a wig and... that's it.... for the rest of the month.

A clogged sink, and sore throat meant that I had to make some purchases. Nothing major. $13.20 was spent on some cough drops, day quil and drain cleaner.

Thanks for asking.

At the moment, I am at $660.01 (including some medical related spending)!

Now, we did have to spend on other stuff not mentioned in those categories, we had to buy a vacuum cleaner and I didn't want to wait till March because it was on sale, and I didn't want to pay extra for it at a later time for no good reason.

Either way, so far, we are within the limits!
