I like the members of my orthopedic surgery team that I've met so far, and they have a lot of experience with my specific condition.
New doctors is always a pressure point for me, because I have a condition that few doctors are familiar with and those who are are usually misinformed. And in Canada, you can't shop around for specialists. You get who you get. The system won't pay for second opinions, and the system is the only payer, so I can't even pay out of pocket.
Anyhoo, it's a HUGE relief that they readily understood my condition and knew exactly why I refused one of the tests the first fellow recommended. He went back and spoke to the big boss, who is one of the top world experts on my injuries, and the big Kahuna totally agreed with me, and it was a productive learning experience for the fellow.
This NEVER happens.
Normally when I meet a new doctor it's an enormously stressful process of me desperately trying to protect myself from them doing something that's dangerous. Hoping that they'll actually be able to do something to help me is usually a fantasy that I don't bother engaging in.
This team may or may not be able to help me, and there's a solid chance that they make me worse, but the amazing thing is that they actually KNOW that's a distinct possibility, and that for me is pure luxury.
I LOVE just being able to just trust experts to do their jobs properly.
