Yesterday's Open Studio was on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. An assortment of friends and artists stopped by and spent a few hours chatting about our city and research and what we're working on. The first spontaneous gathering I've hosted in a year of restrictions.

I had a nice socially distanced visit with my grandma today. She got her second dose of the Covid vaccine last week. She felt terrible for a few days after the first dose, and was worried she'd feel even worse this time around, but she had no side effects at all.

I'll be moving in with my partner this fall, probably, and your updates are making me happy looking forward to it  :)

(It'll be my first time ever living with a romantic partner, after living alone for 13 years, so I'm a little nervous, and it's nice to hear examples of it going smoothly.)

Yay! Glad my example is making a positive impact for you :)

Today's happiness was putting the harness on my cat and walking him a little. This is still in early/experimental stages, but I think he'll be a good walker eventually.

Late night park walk with Ofpym, we have good talks and stupid jokes while Honey bops around sniffing things and sometimes running up trees. Consistently a great way to end the day.

I've been trying to increase my kids' and my outdoor time, and fortunately the weather has been cooperative. We're all in a much better mood after spending some time outside, even if it's just letting the kids run around the backyard while I work on my computer on the deck.

Used up a serving of rice that was sitting in the fridge, almost forgotten for too long, but consumed just in time!

My bedroom rug arrived, and it's amazing what a difference a few soft furnishings make.

I had a super productive day at work, and finished a report that was driving me crazy (mostly because it shouldn't have been mine to write - I got tasked with it after the project lead quit unexpectedly). It feels really good to have that off my plate.

Gorgeous, gorgeous day here -- 65F/18C and sunny.  I was outside almost the whole day -- went for a run, worked in the garden, and took the dog for a walk.  Very happy.

Somehow managed to get just the right number of things on my to-do list for the day, and easily checked then all off. But not so easily that I had guilt at not being productive enough. A magically balanced day!

I went for a nice run outside this morning.  40F and sunny. Actually got too warm and took my hat, gloves, and hoodie off for a bit when the wind was to my back.

We went out on a DATE last night! Into town! With other people!

It was a lovely throwback to the early days of our relationship and worth every penny.

Came up with a good solution to a dilemma that is beneficial to both parties. Just let my brain percolate on the issue overnight and had, if not the best or ideal solution, a workable answer. Thanks, brain! 🧠

I'm doing some mending today with my antique sewing machine that I bought on Craigslist.  It's 65 years old, and it purrs like a kitten -- super well made.  It makes me happy.

I sat on the deck for an hour and a half and talked to my mom on the phone and listened to an audiobook while my kids played in the dirt. It was really nice - I love how content my kids are just playing with sticks and rocks.

Spoke on the phone with an old friend that I hadn't connected with in nearly a decade. During this pandemic, if I think of someone, I try to connect with them just to say "hi".So glad she picked up the call!!

Today I finished a couple of projects, and I briefly had a clear table. This is magical in and of itself, but it also shows that I知 gradually getting somewhere with finishing all the projects cluttering up that room. The table is no longer empty, but it will be again soon.

Yesterday was a beautiful , warm sunny day at least for where I live! and My HS son and I drove to the South Side of Chicago which is about 2.5 hours from where we live and drove through University of Chicago, De Paul, Loyola, Northwestern and then Carthage all along the lake back on our way home. Was good to see people out enjoying themselves, we had a good time and  feels like spring might actually be around the corner!

Just got back from an hour-long walk in gently-falling snow, listening to my favorite podcast. Now I知 back in my sunroom, snuggling under my heated throw, and my DH just placed a latte in my hand, made by him with love.

Bliss.

We barbecued yesterday to celebrate the unseasonably warm weather and made extra to last all week. I also made 2 loaves of bread and went to Aldi to get salad veggies and fruit, so we will need to do very little cooking and pan-washing this week.

@Morning Glory a filled meal pipeline make me happy too!

Today's happiness was Zoom knitting with friends. I've been so distracted with the move, that the last month or so I've hardly even stitched two rows in the two hours I meet with them weekly. Tonight with the move complete, I knitted up a storm. It felt good to have the capacity for relaxation increase!

I'm taking the week off work and so far it's been really nice. The weather is lovely, and my kids have reached the ages (4 and 6) where they're genuinely fun to hang out with most of the time.

Yesterday I had a free period in online school so I walked down to the park. There was no one else there. I sat by the stream and dipped my feet in. I sat there for ages. It was really beautiful.

Yesterday I had a memory pop into my head.  My father had been retired for 10 years when he passed away in 1989.  We had to notify his previous employer so they could process the life insurance and the end of his pension payments.
On the paperwork we received back from them, there was a nice handwritten note from one of the HR workers who said she'd remembered my father fondly and was sorry to hear of his death.
It was a short 2 sentences but even now, 30+ years later, I still recall the kindness of a woman who was not known to us in the family but who took a few minutes of her day to send a personal note.

My point is that sometimes a simple gesture can bring long-lasting happiness for the recipients.  So if you're ever wondering if actions this small have any impact, the answer from me is emphatically yes.

I started my morning off by fixing an issue that's been low-level bugging me for a year and a half - I have a picture that was originally hung centered over my desk, but I moved the desk over to accommodate a cat tree, making the picture off-center. I finally re-hung it today, which felt satisfying.

It's the last day of my "stay-cation", which I plan to spend baking bread and helping my kids make a habitat for some tadpoles that we want to rescue (they're in a puddle that will very likely dry up before they can turn into frogs). Overall, it's been a really nice week.

I was inspired by someone on this forum to make a llama stuffed toy. I知 bringing it to work and anytime anyone comes in with drama, I知 handing the llama to them like a talking stick and allowing them to tell me about the drama only while they池e holding the llama. If I don稚 laugh at how ridiculous work folks are, I知 going to cry.

So I知 happy I get to crochet a llama this weekend.
