February 2020 Goals

1. Money- no groceries except fresh ones or free with points back or coupon
2. Personal- Watch 1 hour or less of tv per day and read more
3. Tasks - Renegotiate/Change my cell phone plan, ive been off contract for 3 years now and I should have done this ages ago.
             - Buy Winter Tires and Rims
             - Finish investing
4. List several items on Kijiji to bring in extra income.
5. Fitness- Work out the equivalent of 150 minutes a week.

Track all Feb spending
Lose 5 lbs
declutter 50 items
read 4 books
complete 2 small home projects
decrease grocery budget by 50 dollars based on Jan number
Keep table and counter clutter free for 10 days

Thanks for starting the Feb thread!

Some of these I'm carrying over from Jan, plus adding some new ones.

1. Better sleep - maintain bedtime routine, hit lights-out target at least 23/29 days. (Last month 23/30)
2. Meditate daily - increase to 10 min per day, meditate after lunch instead of in evening.  Target 25/29 days. (Last month 24/30)
3. Exercise - take a walk or exercise every day. Target 20/29 days.
4. Clutter - keep surfaces uncluttered, donate unneeded things.  Target clean surfaces 20/29 days.
5. Read 4 books, including 1 philosophy book.

Perfect timing. February goals:

1. Save 2,500 post-tax
2. Complete no non-essential spend month
3. Zero social media surfing
4. Average <2h of weekly screen time each week
5. Complete 10 hours of deep work
6. Complete and submit 401(k) proposal
7. Read “Nudge” by Richard Thaler
8. Play 500 hands of bridge
9. Complete 20-hand bridge session with MP >60%
10. Complete all taxes
11. Produce template for (p)rehab exercises for disc golf
12. Change oil and flush brake fluid in car
13. Complete negative visualization 20 times
14. Meet all clinic productivity goals for clinic (50, 659, 2768)
15. Zero added sugar consumption

Read at least one fiction book!

Lately I've been reading up on Personal Finance, but need to remember that's the means to an end, and I shouldn't neglect reading for fun too.

My February Goals:

1. Have a date night with hubby (but not on Valentine's Day)
2. Send my son and my neice a college care package
3. Continue to run with goal of 8 - 10x
4. Continue to use indoor bike with goal of 8x
5. Walk 1-2 miles at least 3x week at work with goal of 12x this month
6. File taxes (state first to get refund, then set up Federal to pay what we owe in April)*
7. File taxes for son (still need W2 and Vanguard 1099)
8. Get oil changed in my car

*Taxable Div/Interest/Reit income was better than expected

Keeping the ball rolling - January goals continue into February:


1. $7K total savings by April/May -
Since Jan 1 - $3K
Goal for Feb - add $1605 + $113 + 150
Just found a new checking account with 4% interest - set up an account, transferring in monies as listed.

2. Declutter - ongoing
Did ok in Jan, worked on living room mostly, but fizzled out a bit towards the end.
Feb goal - finish clearing out all of the study - sort through mountains of paperwork - see if I have all papers needed for tax return.
Put away X-mas things and cleaned up carport.
FEB:
Huge success yesterday - yay!
Cleaned up study, washed windows, replaced curtains, re-organized bookcase - Feb 2.

Still ahead:  Sort paperwork - clean n declutter china/curio cabinet.
Perhaps wishful thinking - do taxes:)

Re-organized and de-cluttered one huge double drawer in the living room on Feb 1.
Still ahead: Clean-de-clutter cabinet and china cabinet.

I admit I feel overwhelmed by all the paper clutter - I'll see how far I get this week. I plan on sorting early in the morning.

For now, I am really happy that I can enter the study again without causing an avalanche by just walking through the room or my feet getting tangled up in stacks of books, papers and whatnot.

3. GARDEN
Still working my way through garden manuals, books and youtube videos to finish my planting plans and design new garden areas.
I gave myself the birthday present of ordering 12 different rare plants for my garden - to arrive and hopefully all be planted tomorrow:).
It's coming together nicely, but it's hard work.

Feb goals -
set up two entire planting tables with seedlings. That will be a first for me - at least to this extent.
Plant - replant and finish up most of the spring planting.
Sandpaper and paint new (to me) garden decor.
Ask our new neighbor for another Papaya tree, invite her over for coffee/wine.
Check out plant sales and visit two/three new to me nurseries - attend at least one garden event.
Make a budget and decide how much I can reasonably accomplish this year - both financially and physically to make the garden even more beautiful.

 - Pretty good, 6/7

 - Going well, 6//7
5. Read 4 books, including 1 philosophy book.
 - On track, 1/4.  Not sure I'll finish the philosophy book, I'm doing a little every day but it's slow going.

My February goals are:

- 28 workouts (if I skip a day, I have to work out twice another day). So far I'm at 8/8.
- Read 4 books, one per week
- Rent a rug doctor and shampoo my carpets
- 3+ servings of fruits and veggies per day. Morning green smoothies are working well for me this year.
- No fast food
- No new clothes purchases (I'm a sucker for yoga gear)
- Less alcohol (I'm pretty sure my red wine habit is to blame for my stubborn belly pooch despite clean eating and exercise)
- 2+ beach visits

2. Send my son and my niece a college care package -- Done
3. Continue to run with goal of 8 - 10x -- On track, 4x and 20.5 miles so far
4. Continue to use indoor bike with goal of 8x -- on track, 4x so far

5. Walk 1-2 miles at least 3x week at work with goal of 12x this month -- not as much as I hoped for. Only twice, but 5 miles so far
6. File taxes (state first to get refund, then set up Federal to pay what we owe in April)* -- waiting on last forms from Vanguard
7. File taxes for son (still need W2 and Vanguard 1099) -- done
8. Get oil changed in my car -- hopefully next week

 - Missed two days, for 11/14

 - Not so good this week, 8/14
4. Clutter - keep surfaces uncluttered, donate unneeded things.  Target clean surfaces 20/29 days.
 - Not quite as good as last week, 11/14
5. Read 4 books, including 1 philosophy book.
 - On track, 3/4

ETA: I'm giving myself a break this coming week, as I'll be travelling out of the country for a funeral.  I'll still try to meditate and do some reading, but I know I won't get my bedtime routine or exercise as planned, and decluttering obviously won't be possible.

3. Continue to run with goal of 8 - 10x -- Done, 8x and 42.2 miles. Probably run again on last day of month.
4. Continue to use indoor bike with goal of 8x -- on track, 6x so far. Two more likely this week.

5. Walk 1-2 miles at least 3x week at work with goal of 12x this month -- not as much as I hoped for. Only 4x, but 8 miles so far. Will try to do a few times this week.
6. File taxes -- Done!
7. File taxes for son -- Done!
8. Get oil changed in my car -- Done! Bonus rear brakes replaced and tires rotated.

12. Change oil and flush brake fluid in car Pushed (again) to March.
13. Complete negative visualization 20 times 20/20, success.

End of month, overall happy. Had a good month, excited for April.

Final Update - I'm not counting the days were were travelling, so all will be out of 20 instead of 29.  Also not counting today since I haven't finished yet.

 - 6 books completed, philosophy book not completed

Somewhat disappointing, especially exercise and meditation.  I'll carry on into next month!

End of month update:

Track all Feb spending completed!

decrease grocery budget by 50 dollars based on Jan number actually spent 200 more than last month but got a nice stock pile of food
Keep table and counter clutter free for 10 days only 8 days this month but a nice start
