I have started! :-)

I wanted to join this challenge earlier when I had to leave my job and felt I had a lot of time declutter house and freezer, then my life turned upside down (DH wants divorce and this took the last of my energy). Now I am back with more energy most days and have started done a come-back with decluttering the house and I have also done some effort with the freezer! Or should I say freezers -we have one smaller in kitchen and one larger in garage.

My rules are:
* get rid of everything we don't eat regularly. I have two small kids so there are some things we need/want to keep in the freezer: frozen peas, frozen spinach for example. Things like this does not need extra/targeted plan to eat, it will just stay in there, gets eaten regularly and gets replenished. This also goes for my frozen fruit and berries for breakfast porridge. But weird stuff needs to either get eaten soon or thrown away.
* no more buying of ice cream until stock has decreased to 1 package. is gone totally. We buy regularly but my kids don't eat that often. But summer is coming so I believe it will decrease naturally. Also, we have had kid birthday party, which added to the stock.
* frozen fish: we have a lot, mainly salmon, but I think some has gone bad: defrost and check - throw away or use. This is high priority as it does not get better with time. I will mainly use this for my lunches.
* bread: use or lose. I am fine with bread in freezer but I know we have some oldish
* ready made food/leftovers: this is fine as I eat regularly but I need to collect them in one place and make a list
* chicken/meat: this will be responsibility for DH mainly but I will gather for him and make a list. I will probably also use some of it once I know what we have
* other weird stuff/odds and ends - this is the most interresting part. I will need to make a list and decide If there is anything I want to use. If so - decide recipe and use, if not -> throw away.

Well, it's pretty clear I need to make a full list. It will not happen today as I need to run errands. Possibly tonight, otherwise tomorrow.

I should have added:
* defrosted some fish, it did not smell ok so it was thrown away. I feel bad for throwing away food though.
* I have used up a couple of items already

@LinneaH, nice that you now have the energy to think ahead again and are declutting home and freezers.

I think fish has a relatively short freezer life, like a couple of months. Compared to wild meat (moose/reindeer), which has several years in the freezer. I think it has something to do with the amount of FAT in it.

Old bread can be dried in a food drier or in the oven and made small to bread-crumbs. I have leftover stumps every day. Once I made a dish with bread (a bread cake), but it wasn't exactly what I expected of it. But on the other hand, what will I do with so much bread-crumbs?

Just finished my grocery order for next week and it looks like I'll get away with not buying any proteins this week.  The grocery stores are having a bit of a Memorial Day sale hangover and the loss leaders aren't anything to get excited about.  This is as good of a time as any to work on cleaning out the freezer.  It's a good thing too, because I've got my kid's birthday party coming up.  I stocked up on hot dogs on Memorial Day, so we'll do hot dogs and chips and drinks for ~6 kids plus their parents.

I pan seared some garlic scapes and then dehydrated them.  Hard to stop eating them before my backpack trip.  Delicious.   You could try that, too.   At least things move out of the freezer and become smaller and store in the dry pantry that way.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
