abstaining from excess for 21 days
« on: January 16, 2017, 12:39:59 PM »
The pastor at my church recently issued a challenge to fast from something for 21 days. So I'm choosing to fast from 'excess'.

My biggest area of excess is food, so I've decided I won't eat any excess food for 21 days, starting today.

That means:
 - no dessert
 - no snacks
 - at meals, I will eat normal food, but just one serving

I'm doing alright so far. Had a small (for me) breakfast, nothing until lunch, and then a small (for me) lunch.

I expect to be healthier, but I'm also exercising my discipline and contentedness muscles.

This is just a short 21-day journal for me to make my commitment public, and to record my progress.

Day 1 was a success. But barely.

Last night I was home alone, and extremely bored. All I could think to do was go to the kitchen. I ended up watching a movie, surfing the web, etc. But it was difficult!

In spite of the chiseled appearance in my profile pic, IRL I'm just slightly softer.

Sounds like the very simple No S Diet (http://nosdiet.com/) - no sweets, no snacks, no seconds.

Thanks for the idea of fasting from excess, Solon. I'll have to think about that for Lent although cutting back is often harder than going cold turkey. Good luck!

Good work! Keep it up!

(I originally thought the title was 'abstaining from exercise', and I thought I could finally jump in a thread. Alas. :D )

Day 3 (Jan 18) - success!

And now I'm thinking about a no-exercise challenge. Hmm...

Good luck!
I should do the same - but I don't want to...
