6 months challenge: no drinking
« on: November 25, 2017, 04:50:27 PM »
After listening to a podcast, can't remember who it was, but on choose fi I think. Talked about personal challenges, and in particular, taking 6 months off from drinking. So I'm gonna do the same; have been in a stressful situation (new job teaching high school, grad school for credential, 2 small kids, recently moved, changed careers) and was using drinking as a coping mechanism. Time to get healthy, wiser, richer, and sleep better.
Days sin drinking: 1
Final date: June 3, 2018
Will be checking in periodically to keep myself motivated.

Well, I'm pregnant until May, so might as well join to support fellow temporary teetotalers. :) I do think extended breaks from drinking are helpful. It's easy to become accustomed to drinking multiple times a week, especially if you grew up in a wine-every-night household, like I did.

Days since drinking: 106-ish
Final date: mid-May 2018

Good luck!

Very nice challenge! I had some medication recently that wouldn't mix with alcohol, so I stopped for a while. Haven't missed it - in fact, I was quite happy to see my general mood lifted, pounds dropped, memory improved. I've proudly joined the teetotalers!

I'm joining in for a 6 week challenge. We cut our indulgences budget way back, which meant cutting spending on desserts, alcohol, and eating out. I'm planning on cutting fast burning carbs for the next 6 weeks so alcohol is out too.

I'm in! Currently on meds that don't allow me to drink for 3 months. Have been in for a 1.5 week so far and all good.

Good luck keeping at it for the full 6 months!

Haven't been back for a while to the forums, pretty new to them. But...
Still going strong, since Thanksgiving haven't had an alcoholic drink. Don't know how many days but my end goal is June. Pretty easy overall and although have had some weak moments, really has been easy (and good for my wallet and waistline!).
Now just need to kick the mochas!

And if you decide to breastfeed you will be off for longer.  ;-)    I think my total non-alcohol time was about 14-15 months.  And after that you are like a kid again, your liver has stopped making the enzymes that break down alcohol, so one drink will be noticeable!

I'm on no alcohol, week 4. I think I'll keep it up for 6 months just for fun. I feel better, lost a little weight, and my sleep seems deeper.
Plus there's the money savings.

I stopped drinking for good 29 days ago, might as well as join in on this action! I've been feeling a million times better. Better sleep, better moods, more money, weight falling off, and I'm not delusional about all the great things I thought having a drink did for me.
