Next 20, favourites marked. I've been skewing pretty heavily towards the Goodreads Choice Awards longlists, but also have officially finished the Harvard Classics:

421. A Sweet Sting of Salt by Rose Sutherland
422. How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories by Holly Black
423. The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
424. The Housemaid's Wedding by Freida McFadden
425. The Stolen Heir by Holly Black
426. The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso

427. The Study of Fire by Maria Snyder
The latest instalment in one of my favourite YA fantasy series, it's great.

428. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

429. Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross
This fantasy duology has been one of my top picks of the year. I'm a huge sucker for relationships built through written correspondence.

430. We'll Prescribe You a Cat by Ishida Syou
431. A House of Gentlefolk by Ivan Turgenev
432. Fathers and Children by Ivan Turgenev
433. Overcaptain by L.E. Modesitt
434. The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley
435. The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djeli Clark

436. For She is Wrath by Emily Varga
A great fantasy Count of Monte Cristo retelling. I couldn't put it down.

437. Somewhere Beyond the Sea by T.J. Klune
438. The Holy Terrors by Simon Green
439. Your Blood, My Bones by Kelly Andrew

440. Annie Bot by Sierra Greer
A fascinating sci-fi about a humanoid robot developing sentience, but focusing on interpersonal relationships versus where most authors would go with it (rights, robot revolution, action). It sounds weird but it works, very well.

My goals are mostly wrapped up now, with the only one remaining being my Daily Stoic Challenge, which will naturally go right to December 31st. I feel like this year I went a little overboard on challenges, leading to often not having any "reading slots" in a given week to just read whatever. Next year I'm going to just have my 365 challenge, plus a nonfiction challenge of 50 books within that number. Unofficial goals of working through the r/fantasy top stand-alone books and top novels lists, staying on top of new releases by my authors plus other generally popular new releases for my genres, and hopefully finally getting caught up on reading most of those books that everyone on planet earth seems to have read except me (Hunger Games, Da Vinci Code, etc).

@Zikoris

The Hunger games are an intriguing serie. I think you will enjoy it.
The Da vincy code is ok to read, a thriller. With the option to be intrigued by the concept of the story.

Do you read books in another way than sitting? Listening? My number of books read is limited to the amount of sitting I can do, without being distracted by other things.

Nope, just sitting and reading. Though I do mostly read on my Kobo, sometimes Kindle, so I sit in a lot of different places. Also stand sometimes if I'm in line or on crowded transit.

Slipped in a few short ones to wrap up the year. I don't expect to finish my current read in the next few days, so going to call it here.

Next year goals will include more sequels, and reading the complete works of certain authors on my list. Hopefully will continue progress on TBR as well. With luck, I'll get more reading done next year!

58. Taking the Quantum Leap: The new physics for non-scientists by Fred Alan Wolf
59. Bride by Ali Hazelwood

and done for 2024.  all three challenges complete.

Favorite books of the year
1. Where'd you go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
--quirky characters, mild social commentary, and believable, wonderful plot twists.  it was lovely.
2. Beowulf, a new translation by Maria Dahvana Headley, audiobook narrated by Maria Davana Headley and JD Jackson
--the is one of the books I was most dreading to read this year. However, the author's note, translation style and narrator's voice were fantastic.  I loved it.
3. Taking the Quantum Leap: the new physics for non-scientists by Fred Alan Wolf
-- continuing my philosophical education from last year's read of Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder, this book can be best summed up as: physics is philosophy.  it will be food for thought for a long time.

Favorite category:
1. Read a banned book.

Popsugar has already posted its reading challenge for 2025 and my library's full list gets uploaded on Jan 2 (though we've already been given a sneak peek.) So I'll be back in 2025 with these two challenges.

I’m up over 80 for books read with my eyes, I know I listened to a few but I don’t have them on my reading chart, and I never participated here but I do plan to for 2025.  The sad thing is that I read so much because I got sick and pretty much couldn’t do much else for most of the year.  I want to look back and see what books some of you read and loved!

It'll be about a year or so before I read wind and truth (have read the first four). I'm avoiding general reviews because of spoilers. How did you like it compared to the rest of the series?

I liked the story itself, but he did a shit job of wrapping up the arc by the end. The Mistborn arcs were really well done in that sense - a clear end to each arc with everything tied up. With Wind and Truth there are a lot of dangling bits left over at the end, and clearly the next story arc will be more of a continuation versus something totally new, which is not great given he's said it will be somewhere in the 2030s before he writes any more for that series. It honestly doesn't even feel like the end of a story arc, it feels maybe second-to-end at best.

I would agree with all of this. Generally liked the story. Many of character arcs were moved forwarded nicely, in ways that made me happy and/or made sense to me and a bit of closure for some smaller arcs, but not a lot of closure of the overall arc.

I just barely finished my 50th book last night. Thank you to the OP for starting the challenge. I finished more books than I would have otherwise.
