18. Murder on Astor Place (Gaslight mystery #1) by Victoria Thompson
Another period mystery, this time it's lead is a widowed nurse/midwife who has left her very posh family after her sister was disowned and later died (married an unsuitable working man, died in childbirth). Set in 1900s New York. Fast read and seems like the Rys Bowen stuff I was reading earlier, just slightly different cast of characters. Plucky smart woman in a period setting working to better herself and those around her, runs into someone (usually police/detective) that doesn't believe women should be doing ~stuff~ then they end up working together and solving mysteries. And it appears, (spoiler, not really) eventually married. So if you like that sort of thing, it's definitely that.
19. In The Time of Our History by Susanne Pari
Reluctantly returning home to observe the first anniversary of her sister's death, Mitra, banished by her controlling father due to her rebellious nature, confronts hard truths from her past and that of her sister, a process that forges an unexpected path forward with her mother, who has always been caught in the middle. Iranian/Persian family. Very good but heartbreaking. WARNING: infidelity and sexual abuse/assault mentioned. It's fiction, but you just know there are likely many real life versions of this that played out over the years.
20. The Spite House by Johnny Compton
A father and his 2 kids on the run from - something? - answer an ad to live in a supposed haunted house in order to try to prove it's actually haunted by the rich and eccentric owner. I liked it but felt it needed more fleshing out in areas and it left me feeling like I didn't get a satisfactory conclusion. It's decently written with some interesting horror/supernatural twists tho, so I'd still say it was worth the read.

The Tatami Galaxy: A Novel by Tomihiko Morimi
It seemed okay, but just don't have the right headspace to read at the moment.
