11. Meet The Frugalwoods by Elizabeth Willard Thames

I don't follow the blog so this was all new to me. A lot of the story resonated with me so I might take a look at the blog now.

1. Infernal Devices - Philip Reeve - 1/3/18
2. Sapiens - Yuval Noah Harari - 1/12/18 - UGH. Great subject, TERRIBLE execution. 200 pages of content in 430 pages of endless fucking lists and artificial dichotomies. Will never be reading another book from this author. He needs an editor to take the wind out of his (verbose, tedious, pedantic, excessive) sails
3. How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind - Dana White - 1/21/19
4. A Darkling Plain - Philip Reeve - 1/22/19
5. Woman on Fire - Amy Jo Goddard - 2/11/19 - fucking AWFUL. I don't think I'm the target audience. I found it incredibly condescending and reductionist and self-righteous. It was for book club. Hate that I even had to finish it!
6. Better Than Before - Gretchen Rubin - 2/19/19 - great. I highly recommend it.
7. The Female Persuasion - Meg Wolitzer - 3/1/19- actually a pretty solid read! Kept me engaged. Not my usual by any means (it was for book club), but not an annoyance read either.
8. The Thief - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/10/19 - these are fun kids reads. Well written and engaging.
9. The Queen of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/15/19

10. The King of Attolia - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/19/20
11. Dies in Fire - S M Stirling - in progress for book club

Well it only took me about 3 months but I finally finished a book;

2019
1. The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko - finished 3/21/19

1/50

I'm currently reading/listening to a bunch of books that I'm not very motivated to finish. Hopefully it doesn't take another 3 months to finish the next book!

16.  Robyn Carr, The Family Gathering
17.  Jodi Taylor, A Symphony of Echoes
18.  Jayne Ann Krentz, In Too Deep
19.  Mary Jo Putney, Once a Solider
20.  Jodi Taylor, The Long and Short of It

I've been reading bits and pieces of science and technology books for a monthly reading challenge, but they tend to be dense so I haven't been able to finish them before they're due back at the library.  Hopefully I'll be able to circle around and finish one or two at some point.

@diapasoun - I really like it! I started it a couple years ago and finally finished book 12 this year. I read them in order but didn't branch off to the side stories (like In Sea-Salt tears & No Sooner Met) - I want to read all of those before the 13th book comes out this Fall!

I'm in! I seem to always have a goal to increase my reading. I've seen an uptick in my travel for work so I've been able to tackle more audiobooks lately. I also learned to crochet and that gives me a lot of time to read, if I can find the time to do that. A friend turned me on to Orson Scott Card and I love those audiobooks, so this list will probably be dominated by his books.

1. Earth Afire by Orson Scott Card
2. Children of the Fleet by Orson Scott Card
3. The Memory of Earth by Orson Scott Card
4. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
5. Earth Awakens by Orson Scott Card

I am going to finish the last few of Philippa Gregory's Tudor books, but I am very, VERY over her writing. I get to read a different book or two while I wait for the next one at the library. I do not mind the break, but I want to go ahead and finish them soon so I don't forget who everyone is.

15. Think! Before it's too late by Edward de Bono. Um.. this was an audiobook and I think I kept losing interest. He does like to blow his own trumpet which is annoying. He really hates the media / journalists, seems to have a grudge?  Repetitive - he did make good points but yeah, the scope could have been covered in a long article.

6. Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

Wow, it has been an incredibly busy month. I am up to my eyeballs in trying to learn networking for my intro class from scratch, c++ programming, and in a robotics club, so there has not been a ton of time for reading. :(

40   Smarter, Faster, Better - Duhigg
41   Untethered Soul - Singer
42   You are a Badass Every Day - Sincero
43   Mastery - Greene
44   Crushing It - Vaynerchuk
45   Energy Bus - Gordon

I was wrong, and read an entire book in the next 24 hours. The mysteries of the human brain...

1. Laini Taylor - Strange the Dreamer
2. JK Rowling - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - The Original Screenplay
3. Drew Hayes - Siege Tactics
4. Charlie Holmberg - Smoke & Summons
5. Barry Eisler - The Killer Collective

13. Shea Ernshaw - The Wicked Deep
14. Rafi Zabor - The Bear Comes Home

15. Victoria Lee - The Fever King

Great read, intriguing world building, fun plot twists. Enjoyed the rarity of having LGBT main characters without it being a book about LGBT issues. I'm looking forward to the sequel, which isn't coming out for ages. It set up the next volume nicely without being too obnoxiously cliffhangery.

16. Help Me! by Marianne Power - a look at various self help books/methods by following one a month. The author really lays herself bare. I enjoyed it and was even moved. I've always been curious about Tony Robbins and now I definitely know it's not for me! I won't spoil it and say what 'worked' & what she learnt.

I'm in!

My books read:
2015: 52
2016: (kid #1 born, but still a baby): 45
2017: 13
2018 (kid #2 born): 7

That's a sharp downward trend, huh?

Of course, one other big reading change in the meantime is that I switched to a lot of article reading, especially longform (longform.org).

Pocket informed me last year I read the equivalent of 97 books (7.2M words). So still lots of reading, but less novels for sure. (Whereas 2017 was only 2.1M words, 27 books equivalent.)

https://getpocket.com/stats/2018/7dfe562395

Anyways, this year I resolved to reverse that trend, and started a habit of reading both fiction and nonfiction every day, and internet reading doesn't count. I'm up to maybe 15-20 books read this year already?

I made 52 my goal again in 2019, and should easily hit it. (Plus I'll probably will still hit large equivalent amounts of words in article form, I'm sure.)

The now page in my signature has the list of books read, though it's a book or two out of date at the moment. I'd cut/paste, but on my phone makes that difficult. :)
I am a former teacher who accumulated a bunch of real estate, retired at 29, spent some time traveling the world full time and am now settled with three kids.
If you want to know more about me, this Business Insider profile tells the story pretty well.
I (rarely) blog at AdventuringAlong.com. Check out the Now page to see what I'm up to currently.

Books read in March. The ones I particularly enjoyed are marked with a *.

23. Leila Slimani’s The Perfect Nanny
24. Kevin Young’s Brown: Poems
25. Kwame Anthony Appiah’s The Lies That Bind: Rethinking Identity
26. N.K. Jemisin’s How Long ’til Black Future Month *
27. Martha Well’s Artificial Condition (Murderbot Diaries Part Two) (audiobook)
28. Ellis Peters' St. Peter’s Fair
29. Martha Well’s Rogue Protocol (Murberbot Diaries Part Three) (audiobook)
30. Ursula K. LeGuin’s The Wind’s Twelve Quarters
31. Martha Well’s Exit Strategy (Murderbot Diaries Part Four) (audiobook)
32. David Sedaris’ Calypso (audiobook) *

Random side-note: I've never kept lists of what I read before, and it's interesting to look back because I can often connect my reading choices with whatever I was doing at the time. Like in March, I had a lot of travel and was tired, so audiobooks & short story collections make a strong showing. It's almost a diary-by-proxy.

11. Dies in Fire - S M Stirling - 3/21/19 - Book club book. This was really good! It's a local author, and I hate to say it, but I wasn't expecting much. Good read though. World war z writing vibe, but more compelling characters.
12. A Conspiracy of Kings - Megan Whalen Turner - 3/24/19
13. Thick as Thieves Megan Whalen Turner - 3/28/19

14. Thanks a Thousand: A Gratitude Journey - AJ Jacobs - 4/6/19 - not one of my favorite books by him. Hit it's stride a *little* more later on? But really, could have easily been an article and been better for it. Not much of his usual reliable great humor either. Eh.
15. The Year of Living Danishly - Helen Russell - 4/4/19 - pretty good, although the surprise infertility/miracle pregnancy store line crushed my sad little infertile heart. Definitely made me laugh out loud a time or two, and was an interesting look into denmark. A bit dry in places though.
16. Flight Behavior - Barabara Kingsolver - in progress

16. My System, J.P. Muller (online). A fun historical read; this is a very early fitness/calisthenics book, touting the wonders of a daily bodyweight program + bathing + skin rubbing. A lot of it is Not Science At All, but you can see the early genesis of pushups and situps in here -- pretty cool for anyone who's into exercise and history. :)

I am at 3/15 for pre-2019 books.

Currently reading:

Americanah, Chimimanda Adichie (mine)
Old English Herbals, Eleanour Sinclair Rohde (mine)
The Odyssey, Homer, trans. Emily Wilson (mine)

One day I will actually finish Americanah. It's a lovely book, but I have it on audiobook and I'm TERRIBLE at audiobooks, apparently.
