24. Stowaway to Mars by John Wyndham (16/9/17) This was written in the 30s by a man, for men, I take it because the sexism is quite grating. I nearly gave up but glad I persisted because there was a few pages of interesting discussion of AI and the future of the human race once machines are taking care of themselves.

1. The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead (excellent; page-turning, memorable, couldn't wait to get back to reading when I had to put it down)
2. Lab Girl by Hope Jahren (one of the best memoirs I've read in a while. Also incidentally learned a lot about trees)
3. Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo (eh. Good info, but could've been condensed to about 1/3 the length)
4. Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
5. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
6.The Gene: An Intimate History by Siddhartha Mukherjee (40% finished; loan expired)
7. You are Not So Smart by David McRaney - made it about 40% through this book before giving up. It's geared towards people who know nothing about psychology/research methods. I skimmed the table of contents and realized I wasn't missing much.
8. Black Water by Louise Doughty
9. A Criminal Defense by William Myers, Jr. (Kindle First book - I was pleasantly surprised. Much better than other Kindle First books I've tried)
10. Ghettoside by Jill Leovy (anyone interested in reducing the high homicide rates in inner cities should read this. So basically everyone.)
11. Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling
12. American Heiress: The Wild Saga of the Kidnapping, Crimes, and Trial of Patty Hearst by Jeffrey Toobin (enjoyed this one a lot. Toobin is an engaging writer who clearly did exhaustive research. Read more like a novel than a typical nonfiction account.)
13.  Belgravia by Julian Fellowes. Good read, though it lagged at times. Fellowes wrote Downton Abbey and it definitely was of a similar style. I'm not sure I'll be rushing out to read his other books, though.
14. Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery by Robert Kolker. (I'm hoping Kolker has written other books because this was excellent. Meticulously researched, shining a spotlight on an overlooked, still-unsolved case.)
15. Where'd you Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. (Hilarious. I downloaded another Maria Semple book to my Kindle before even finishing this one so I'd have another of hers ready to read immediately.)
16. Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple
17. Before the Fall by Noah Hawley
18. Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty
19. Missoula by Jon Krakauer
20. 1984 by George Orwell
21. Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine (another Kindle First success)
22. Evicted by Matthew Desmond
23. David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell

I finished it in less than a day though, so it wasn't much of a time investment anyway.

Good to know! My library has the Kindle book through Overdrive so maybe I'll pick it up for a quick read before the end of the year. I actually liked the second book better than the first, but this last book just did not seem cohesive with the others at all.

1. Rose: My Life in Service to Lady Astor by Rosina Harrison (Fun little nonfiction read).

4. The Scorch Trials by James Dashner (Maze Runner #2)
5. The Death Cure by James Dashner (Maze Runner #3)
6. Welcome to the World, Baby Girl by Fannie Flagg (Elmwood Springs #1) (I am a HUGE Fannie Flagg fan. Not my favorite one of her books, but still really good).
7. Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse #11) (The Sookie books started out pretty good, but went downhill after about book 8).
8. Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg (Elmwood Springs #2) (More classic Fannie. Really liked this one).

15. More Than Her by Jay McLean (More Than #2)
16. The Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman (His Dark Materials #2)

22. The Sun Dwellers by David Estes (Dwellers #3)
23. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
24. The Princess Bride by William Goldman (Classic. If you loved the movie, you'll love the book. Many scenes from the movie are pulled word for word from the book).

28. Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte (Good. Not my favorite Bronte sister, but it was fine).

I am very late to the game. This may not be a complete re-creation, but I did my best:

1.   The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
2.   Two Truths and a Lie by Sara Shepard
3.   The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider
4.   The Night Bird by Brian Freeman
5.   Extracted by RR Haywood
6.   Executed by RR Haywood
7.   Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky
8.   The Round House by Louise Erdrich
9.   How Proust Can Change Your Life by Alain de Botton
10.   Candide by Voltaire
11.   Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
12.   A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
13.   My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout
14.   A Criminal Defense by William L. Myers Jr.
15.   Beach Lawyer by Avery Duff
16.   The First Word by Isley Robson
17.   Soho Dead by Greg Keen
18.   Little Boy Lost by J.D. Trafford
19.   Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
20.   All the Little Children by Jo Furniss
21.   I Am Watching You by Teresa Driscoll
22.   The Unremembered Girl by Eliza Maxwell
23.   The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin
24.   The Things We Wish Were True by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen
25.   Good as Gone by Amy Gentry
26.   The 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss
27.   The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert

The challenge will be reading the remaining 23 by the end of December with all of the business trips I have coming up. I only read 6 books between October and December last year.

24. Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
25. P.S. from Paris by Marc Levy (like reading a fleshed-out novel version of a nonsensical romantic comedy movie. Kindle First fail)
